Announcements

SVN

I've put up an SVN now, you can go visit it over here. Updates to the files should end up here, and eventually when I get around to it I'll probably post the .ke files so people can start compiling them, debugging, submitting tickets, etc. The works, basically.

This wiki will remain as a history of all changes that happened to files, so people can look over and also navigate all the files/relevant changes, guidelines, etc. here. --Velocity7 19:16, 7 December 2008 (PST)

Call to Arms

All translators and editors are encouraged to look over all SEEN files and do TL checking or editing. A main collaboration page has been set up at:

Category:ClannadCleanup

Translators, please review the files in there to be TL checked. Editors, if you find any issues editing SEEN files, please mark in this page to see if you think your edit may affect the meaning of a sentence, or if you question the meaning of a sentence. Thanks! --Velocity7 17:54, 5 March 2008 (PST)

Patch Versions

Recently, Key has announced there will be a Full Voice version of CLANNAD PC released on February 29, 2008[1]. This has affected plans on distribution. Originally, a patch would be given out that allowed those who had/did not have the voice patch to be able to play. Now two patches will likely have to be issued, including one for the Full Voice version. --Velocity7 21:59, 31 December 2007 (PST)

Xbox 360 version of CLANNAD will not be supported or translated. It's the same as FULL VOICE anyway, albeit the DLC. --Velocity7 21:25, 7 December 2008 (PST)

Where you can purchase CLANNAD

Though this is not an indication that the patch is in any way, shape, or form, near completion or readiness to release to the public, you may find this information useful.

HimeyaShop and PaletWeb are two (but not the only) online stores that ship overseas from Japan, and offer CLANNAD, CLANNAD PS2, and CLANNAD FULL VOICE. Do not fret if the classic version of CLANNAD is out of stock, as I am supporting FULL VOICE at the same time. You may decide to purchase the game before the patch is released, when it is, or maybe after. It's up to you. ;)

Privilege to Editors and Translators

With a majority of the CLANNAD translation being done, it's becoming quite clear that simply reading the text will not be enough to fully proofread the game. I'll be giving out compiled SEEN.TXT based on the current content to members of the Translation Team on a request basis, meaning you'll have to contact me on IRC for a build. Full-time editors are also privileged to have these builds.

Unofficial Patches

It's also come to my attention that others are attempting to compile SEEN.TXT builds. These are unofficial and will be unsupported by the project. There are many hacks that have been implemented into the game that will crash in these builds, plus they are not using styling, nor are they using working executables that are guaranteed to work correctly. ANY REQUESTS FOR SUPPORT ON THESE UNOFFICIAL BUILDS WILL BE IGNORED. --Velocity7 20:18, 20 December 2007 (PST)

Hoax Patches

Someone is going round posting a translation patch that pretends to be the compiled patch from Baka-Tsuki. This patch is not real and is a fake. Do not download this patch, as it contains malware that can harm your computer considerably. This malware is approximately 110,592 bytes, MD5: 5aef48e051f11cfe97e8e0f46b3cf05f. --Velocity7 18:20, 12 February 2008 (PST)

Analysis indicates it's a hoax virus, though obviously a patch shouldn't be 100 KB. Be careful where you downloads from, that's my best suggestion. --Velocity7 17:10, 14 February 2008 (PST)

Summary

Clannad is an all-ages visual novel adventure developed by Key/VisualArts, released in 2004. More information is available at the Wikipedia entry located here.

This is a resurrection of the translation project effort that started in 2005. Originally run by Soulfang, this new resurrection is an open collaboration started by velocity7. As this is an experimental project, people should take heed to how this is being handled. Please see below for more details.

Please note, that Baka-Tsuki hosts only the Translated text, and as such, no images or game files are hosted here.

ALL TRANSLATORS ARE WELCOME!!
(as long as you do Japanese -> English)

A webpage involving development details, screenshots, and download content is available here.

If you wish to contact us, either do so via the main Talk pages, or visit us on IRC at irc.rizon.net @ #Baka-Tsuki.

Translation Status

Currently, we are in the TRANSLATION phase. This means that all files are currently being translated at this time, and when completed, will require revisions/editing for later. There is no ETA on when this phase will be completed. Concurrent phases to complete are:

  • Revision phase - finding untranslated or mistranslated lines, references, etc.
  • Beta phase - making sure the entire game has been translated with no issues, including game logic, variable references, etc.
  • Editing phase - final phase, all files can undergo editing to ensure consistency, grammar, etc.

Please note that, if any groups are interested in using the script files for their own CLANNAD translation project, such as a foreign language, please contact the Project Administrator for permission to do so. However, please be advised that, unless the Revision phase has passed, we cannot guarantee the accuracy or cleanliness of the translation at this time, and therefore advise that you hold off on such requests until that happens.

Development Status

FULL VOICE

FULL VOICE support is done! See SVN for files.

Because OCaml can be a pain to setup, here are some directions for setting up the tool chain.

The CLANNAD Full Voice XOR key has been found. We can now disassemble and recompile the Full Voice version. Patch for RLdev can be found here. There is a rlBabel map on the SVN linked above, as well as Full Voice .ke files and a bash script to build a Full Voice compatible SEEN.TXT.

Other

velocity7 has recently written a program that will facilitate download of the SEEN files from the SEEN pages on the wiki. It is highly suggested that you at least follow the Guidelines or use the <pre> tags so that this program may work more efficiently, and thus, allow for the ability to create internal patches for testing.

We are looking for people who are willing to help deal with the following problems listed below. You should have experience (or willing to gain) experience with the RealLive kepago files, the GAMEEXE.INI, or have enough hacking knowledge to hex edit the RealLive.exe. The items in question are:

  • Bugs
    • Return to Previous Selection button is disabled whenever rlBabel is active. --> fixed! http://forums.novelnews.net/showpost.php?p=61629&postcount=32
    • \size{} causes the indentation to screw up if used before a ( or " character. --> worked-around! Using separate window for names; no need for indentation now.
  • Additions
    • Handler for hypertext, so that instead of using a standard window, a window using the in-game CLANNAD graphics appears with the actual text. --> added! in SVN r43 "The fun one."
  • Features
    • How to create .PAK files
    • Search priority for RealLive assets
(e.g., should search local directory then install area, rather than the other way around)
(install area: full means HDD, minimal means CD)
    • Coding in a handler for making the hypertext blink or highlight when the mouse hovers over the gloss (and when clicked, there should be a handler for the gloss itself, so that it can blink faster or highlight faster, etc.)

If you would like to help out, please visit the forum thread.

For people who are interested in the various versions of RealLive, RasqualTwilight has put up a list of versions you might want to have a look at.

Guidelines

Generally speaking, the guidelines associated with the Suzumiya Haruhi novel translation project can be followed, but there are several amendments that have been made in order to accomodate the unorthodox nature of this project. Please see the Clannad Guidelines for details.

If you wish to make a translation contribution and cannot abide by the Guidelines for any reason, post the text in <pre> tags, and mark the top of the page with {{Clannad:Cleanup}}. A Project Editor will handle the transfer into an acceptable format.

Pages will be marked at the top, either by:

Also a big thanks to Sushi-Y, for providing guidance on the direction of the translation.

Another special thanks goes to Japanese-native akiha, for providing technical help on translation accuracy.

Translators that have proposed to translate for the game but have not translated anything as of yet should not be listed, as to avoid any misleading information.

Script Registration Chart

A key thing to note is that more than one translator can work on a single script.

Assign yourself a SEEN page by clicking on any of the links and add yourself to the translator list in the page. If the page...

  • exists, it means the scene has at least some (or all) content translated so far. It may also mean a Translator has assigned the SEEN page to themselves.
  • is bolded, it means the scene has finished translation (at least 95%~) and is undergoing revisions/editing
  • is underlined, it means the scene has finished revisioning/editing (will be authorized by the Project Administrator)

There are two sets of files that do need to be translated; the Kepago source code files (< 1% of translation) and the actual story content files (99% of translation). For now, the Kepago source code files are not ready for public consumption, so the story content files are available for now:

The formatted version of the story content files is merely so that all the dialogue has the dialogue text content all commented out. Things have been set up so that the English text may be inserted easily; even the \m{B} name tag has also been pre-inserted for your convenience.

Here's an easy way to replace all names; say you have...

<0914> \{古河} *

Simply do a find/replace for "\{古河} *" and replace it with "\{Furukawa} *". If you do this on everything, all of Furukawa's names should already be inserted for you, while preserving the original Japanese line.

We highly recommend you use the formatted UTF files above. If you must use the original files, they can be found at:

These files can be opened by Notepad or some similar word processing program that will accept UTF-8 as input. They are not in S-JIS for compatibility/universal reasons across all platforms. Template:Clannad:ScriptChart
