Short: On a Godless Planet - Character Roughs[edit]
“Okay, we’ve got a little something extra this time and this short will probably have more of an impact than normal. Let’s take a look at the character roughs for the series.”
“By the way, these are not the half-assed roughs by the author; they are the accurate roughs by the illustrator. Let us begin.”
- Protagonist
“Oh, it’s me! It’s me, me, me! Yahoo! I look like a background character elevated to the position of protagonist, don’t I!?”
“Sumeragi-kun is the human representative and he is decently tall. He’s a little skinny, but everyone’s proportions are more on that end of things in this series, so it seems about right.”
<Also, he makes a lot of silly expressions, so you can see a cavalcade of unsightliness on the right.>
“Hey, you don’t have to be mean!”
“Yeah, unsightly’s a pretty good word for when he gets like that…”
“Apparently, the concept behind his design was a seemingly calm and intellectual person who immediately starts making silly faces.”
“Th-those are some nice faces, Sumeragi-kun!”
“Wow! I’ll keep it up then! I’ll make sure to use them to mock all those other gods and the talking screen!”

- Senpai
“Ohh, it’s Senpai-chan!”
“…”
“………”
“Why does her design look like it was made to promote criminal behavior?”
“Yeah, I get what you mean. She’s the type who has trouble saying no, isn’t she?”
“I-I am not!”
“Oh! Senpai! A bento for lunch today!? Can I join you!? Please! Please!”
“Eh? Well, if you insist…”
“And she’s proven herself wrong already…”
“That seems about right. She wears her uniform pretty much the standard way, so you can use that as a baseline. She has black hair, so to keep it from seeming too formal, it looks like she styles the ends of the bangs and stuff.”

- Raidou Tooru
“Okay, that’s me! Damn, I’m cool!”
“That’s a really 90s design. Like, what is with that belt?”
“Oh, he has his reasons for that, boy! By the way, his right arm isn’t a prosthetic. That’s an arm supporter like they use in sports. He doesn’t have a prosthetic arm and I don’t use any kind of spear, so don’t get the wrong idea. Anyway, he’s really tall at more than 190cm, so he’s designed to show off the large surface area of his different parts.”
“My long hair is tied back with that yellow band you can see there. The idea is that I have Saku tie it for me.”
“Now, Raidou-senpai has his height, but he was designed as a slender macho man. That means he isn’t just a brute force character.”

- Shifu Saku
“Yay, my design is actually the best one!”
“It’s certainly an easy one to figure out…”
“At 185cm with her shoes on, Shifu-senpai is quite tall, but with the explosive size of her various parts, she kind of needed that height to seem balanced, didn’t she?”
“I’d prefer if you said I had healthy proportions.”
“Also, I assume you can see how Shifu-san’s skirt area was designed to kind of look like she has a shirt tied around her waist. Tying your shirt or cardigan around your waist was the fashion in the 90s, so it’s based off of that.”

- Kuwajiri Tsubomi
“You’re so cute, Kuwajiri-chan!”
“Why is that drawn from a bit of a low angle?”
“Huh? Weren’t you in the old style uniform when you first appeared!? You tricked me!”

“You look a lot plainer than I expected…”
“The new style uniform just makes anyone look flashy. Now, the new style uniform is standard for the upperclassmen, but due to their excess curves, you can use the one of me as reference for the basic shape and structure of the uniform.”

- Yomoji Shinsei
“Ooookay, that’s meee. Meee. Fantastic.”
“…”

“Heyyy, what’s with the laaaack of reactionssss!?”
“I mean, there’s not much to say about yours. You’re exactly what you look like…”

- Omokane Yatsui
“Oh, what’s this? There are designs for us too?”
“You wear a boy’s uniform, but the openings at the hips give a glimpse of girl’s tights within. You wear girl’s stuff underneath, don’t you?”
“Well, given the demands of everyday life, it’s easiest to wear a girl’s inner suit.”
“Also, her hair is designed to look like the 八 character in the name Yatsui.”

- Kubiki Scarecrow
“Oh, I know what this is. It’s a design that a certain kind of fan will really latch onto.”
“Is that how it works? I honestly don’t really get it.”
“Scarecrow-senpai’s design is true to her name. Her hair and such are supposed to look like ears of rice hung up to dry.”
“Is that why every part of her seems to be losing to gravity!?”
“A lot of the individual design elements are similar to mine, but a change in direction can really change the overall impression, can’t it?”

“Anyway, that about covers it. There will probably be some adjustments made once things really get going, so keep that in mind.”
“Wait, I feel like we forgot someone.”
