1			クリスマスイブを過ぎたクリスマスの日は、 基本的には、ただの冬の一日に過ぎなかった。	Christmas was nothing more than an ordinary winter day after Christmas Eve had passed.
2			明け方にやんでしまった雪は、 道行く人にただ寒さと歩きにくさを与えるだけで、 昼を過ぎた頃にはすっかり黒く土に溶け込んでいた。	The snow that was no longer piling by the time dawn arrived only served to deliver the chill of winter and walking discomfort to passersby, before completely dissolving into blackened soil that merged into the ground by noon.
3			…そんな皮肉めいた見方しかできないのは、 自分の精神状態のせいという可能性も 否定できなかったけど。	...As sarcastic as it is of me to put it this way, I can’t deny the possibility that my current mental state has something to do with it.
4	春希	Haruki	「………」	"........."
5			そして、今はもうクリスマスでもない、 ただの冬の一日。	And today's just another ordinary winter day -- it's not even Christmas anymore.
6			部屋に帰り着いてから、２４時間以上が過ぎた。	It's been more than a day since I've returned home.
7			窓の外の黒い空が白く薄曇っていくのを リアルタイムで全て視界に収め 明けない夜が本当にないということを痛感した。	It was only after a night of me engraving the period of the dark sky gradually brightening outside the window in my mind that I came to the clear realization that nights are not eternal.
8			そして厚い雲に覆われた空は、 そのまままたリアルタイムで黒く染まっていき、 暮れない昼が本当にないということまで思い出させた。	And watching a day of the sky thickening with darkening clouds also made me remember that daylight doesn’t last forever, either.
9			それからは地獄の責め苦のように、 冬特有の長い夜を、灯りをつけないまま、 まんじりともせずに過ごし。	And I've spent the especial, long winter night under the hellish torture of being wide awake in my room without my lights on.
10			そして、やっと訪れた二度目の日の出は、 今度こそ明るい[R朝陽^あさひ]を俺の目に焼きつけた。	And then, the bright morning sun finally appeared a second time, burning daylight into my eyes.
11			そんなに時間が経過したというのに、 俺はまだ、あれから一睡もできてない。	I've yet to manage to get even a wink of sleep despite such a long passage of time.
12			疲れと眠気に苛まれているはずの頭は、 それでもただ一人の記憶を追い出すことができなくて、 割れんばかりの痛みばかりを俺にもたらす。	While I’d hoped for fatigue and sleepiness to cloud my mind, they failed to expel the memories of a certain someone out of it, only serving to give me a splitting pain.
13			このまま部屋に一人で居続けたら、 頭がどうにかなってしまいそうだったけど…	If I keep spending my time alone in this room like this, my mind probably won't be able to take it...
14			結局、どこにも逃げ出す場所なんかなくて。 誰も逃げ場になってくれる人なんかいなくて。	In the end, however, I have neither a place to take refuge nor a person to provide me the escape I need.
15			俺はまだ、出口さえ見えない暗闇の中をさまよう。	I remain trapped in the darkness, seeing no trace of an exit.
16	留守電アナウンス	Answering Machine	「ただ今留守にしております。 ご用の方は発信音の後にメッセージをお願いします」	"The owner of this number is not answering. Please leave a message after the tone."
17	武也	Takeya	「…本当に出かけてんのかよ？」	"...Have you really gone out?"
18	武也	Takeya	「おい春希、この前の件だけどな、 帰ってきたらちゃんと話しようぜ？ …これ聞いたらすぐに連絡してくれ」	"Hey, Haruki. I need to talk to you about what happened once you come back, okay? Call me back as soon as you hear this.
19	武也	Takeya	「携帯とこっち、両方に入れとくから、 シカトすんじゃねえぞ？　じゃあな」	"I've already called you both here and on your cellphone, so don't you dare ignore me, you hear? Later."
20	春希	Haruki	「………」	"........."
21			さっきの携帯も武也からだった。 これでもう、二日で九度目の居留守になる。	The call on my cell just a while ago was from Takeya as well. This makes it the ninth time in two days that I've been running away, pretending to be out.
22			最初は、いつまでも電話の通じない俺に対する 揶揄みたいな響きが含まれてた。	At first, when I didn't answer the phone, he sounded like he was teasing me.
23			それは、俺がまだ雪菜と一緒にいるんじゃないかって、 そんな下世話で温かい期待だったんだと思う。	Probably thinking I was still with Setsuna, he was hoping that something good had happened.
24			けれど、昨日の夜中… 依緒からの連絡が来て以降、雲行きが怪しくなる。	However, since yesterday night... After a call from Io, I realized that things had taken a turn for the worse.
25			彼女の口調は妙に切羽詰まってて、 けれど内容は、俺の予測を少しも外れはしなかった。	Although her tone sounded strangely desperate, what she spoke about was not far from what I'd predicted she would.
26			雪菜と会ったこと。	She'd met with Setsuna.
27			何もなかったって雪菜が言ったこと。 笑ってたこと、泣いてなかったこと。	She said that Setsuna had told her nothing had happened. That she'd kept smiling and didn't cry.
28			…嘘を、ついてるってわかってしまったこと。	...And she knew that all of it was a lie.
29			数年来の親友だからこそわかる些細な変化。 無理な明るさ、滲み出る虚しさ、隠せない痛み。	She'd definitely notice such trivial changes — she's been friends with her for so long. Forced cheerfulness, obvious emptiness, her inability to hide the pain.
30			それらの様々な負の感情が雪菜を蝕んでいるって。	Various negative feelings are slowly eating away at Setsuna right now.
31			…その電話があってから後、 朝まで、依緒と武也からのコールが 一時間おきくらいに数件続いてる。	...After that, Io and Takeya kept calling me several times per hour until morning came.
32			自分たちが仕掛人だからってだけじゃない。 純粋に俺たちを心配してるって口調から、 あいつらの焦燥感が伝わってくる。	Not because they were the instigators, but because they were genuinely worried about us. I could hear their uneasiness through their voices.
33			なのに俺は、 まるであいつらの慌てぶりを他人事のように俯瞰して、 スルーを繰り返す。	And yet I, feeling like I'm nothing but an onlooker to their frenzied state of panic, continued ignoring them.
34			だって、何と答えたらいいのかわからない。 近すぎるからこそ、何も話せない。	Because I don't know how should I answer them. It's because we're so close that I don't know what to say to them.
35			あいつらの反応がわかってるからこそ。	Because I know how they'll react.
36			その反応が、俺にとって痛くて、 けれど俺を楽にしてしまうからこそ。	Because I know their reaction will definitely hurt me, though it's also because it would be put me at some form of ease.
37			あいつらは、きっと俺に罰を与える。 怒り、嘆き、叱責して、必死に俺たちに干渉し、 なんとか解決策を探そうとするだろう。	They will most likely punish me. They will be angry with me, lament, reproach, and interfere completely. And maybe they will somehow find a solution.
38			そして俺は、そのあいつらの干渉に対して、 罰を受けた気になり、自らの思考を止めてしまう。	Then I, in gratitude for them trying to help resolve the situation, will accept the punishment, and stop thinking about it.
39			そんな自己満足の停滞なんて意味がない。 解決していないのに、 解決した気になることほど最悪の事態はない。	But that sort of stagnation from self-satisfaction is pointless. There's nothing worse than pretending an issue is already solved when it truthfully isn't.
40			痛みを正面から受け止めたって、 先に進めないなら無駄だ。	Even if I can take on the pain directly, it would be pointless if I can't move on.
41			だって、俺が楽になった瞬間も、 雪菜にとっては何も解決してない、救われてない。 だったら俺一人が楽になることは、何ももたらさない。	Because, even if I end up happy, Setsuna will still have no closure. That sort of result, my happiness alone, would settle nothing.
42			だから俺は…結局、動けない。	That's why I... ultimately cannot move.
43			この優しい陽射しに包まれた空が、 リアルタイムに赤く、そして黒く染まっていくのを ただ眺める。	The gentle sunlight that wraps the sky changes from red to dyed black in real time as I gaze on.
44			次の夜が明けたら、 少しは前に進む気になれるんだろうかって…	The next time it dawns, I wonder if I will be able to move forward, even just a little...
45			そんな、初歩も初歩の自問自答を繰り返しつつ。	A question I keep asking myself over and over again.
