5			最初、『土曜の１時にこの前三人で飲んだ店』と 言われた時には、『昼間だと開いてないんじゃ？』と、 思いっきり的外れな指摘をしてしまったっけ。	At first, when Mari-san proposed the decision of "meet up at the bar the three us went before at 1 o clock on Sunday", I suddenly pointed out the off-point question of "A bar open during the day?".
6	麻理	Mari	「どうしても片づけておきたい仕事が手間取って。 明日はさすがに休みたかったし」	"Some things at work I'd prefer to finish as soon as possible no matter what, so I'm sorry for the delay. I hope I can have proper rest tomorrow.

11	麻理	Mari	「あ、それじゃ最初はビール…っ、 いや、今日は酒はやめとこう。 ジンジャエールで」	"Ah, I guess I'll have some beer first….No, never mind, I won't have any alcohol today. I'll have ginger ale, instead.
12	春希	Haruki	「…大丈夫ですか？」	"…Are you feeling okay?"
13	麻理	Mari	「…私が酒を頼まないというのは、 それほど目をひん剥いて驚くことなのか？」	"…I'm just not ordering any alcohol. Is it really worth such a surprised reaction from you?"
14	春希	Haruki	「熱は？　気分はどうです？ 寒気がするとかありませんか？」	"Are you having a fever? How are you feeling? You've not caught a cold or anything, have you?"

16			別にネタで麻理さんの強がりをスルーした訳じゃない。 ただ、本当に表情が優れないように見えただけで…	It's not that I'm trying to tease Mari-san's deliberate attempt to feign being strong. It's just that she really doesn't look to be in the best shape today…

20			注文して３０秒も経たないうちに置かれた ジンジャエールのグラスを、麻理さんが軽く傾ける。	Mari-san takes a sip from the ginger ale served in front of us less than 30 seconds after she ordered it.
21	春希	Haruki	「…お疲れさまでした」	"…Good work today."
22			だから俺は『ところで二つ目の理由って？』という どうでもいい疑問はとりあえず脇に置き、 麻理さんのグラスにグラスを合わせた。	That's why I've put aside the unnecessary questions such as "What's the next reason?" and the like, bringing my own glass to hers.
23	麻理	Mari	「今週は本当疲れた… 仕事の進捗も悪かったし。 休みボケがまだ残ってるのかな」	"This week's really tiresome… My progress at work isn't the best. I guess it's because the feedback from the holidays hasn't fully diminished yet, huh…"

36			俺のグラスのコーラが半分くらいに減った頃、 やっと麻理さんは席に戻ってきた。	Mari-san finally returned and sat on her seat when my glass of cola was about half empty.
37			でも、どうせ体調を心配しても 『なんでもない』の繰り返しになるのははわかってたから、 間髪入れずに本題に入った。	Despite this, I knew I'd only be replied with "I'm fine" even if I voiced my worry about her condition, and so I immediately cut to the chase.
38			麻理さんは厳しい顔をしてしばらく黙り込んでたけど、 それが俺の言葉によるものなのか、 それ以外の要因なのかはハッキリしなかった。	Mari-san seeps into silence wearing a stern look, with me not knowing if she's like that because of what I said, or if it was another reason.
39	春希	Haruki	「いずれ正式に挨拶に伺いますけど、 麻理さんには先に言っておくべきだと思ったから…」	"I wanted to officially ask for a permit these days, but I thought it was best if I'd told you first, Mari-san…"
40	麻理	Mari	「私は『テスト期間中は休め』と言っただけで、 辞めていいなんて一言も言った覚えはないぞ？」	"I specifically said you could only rest 'during your exam period'. I don't remembering saying anything about letting you throw this job away, you know?"

43			でも、今度の舌打ちは、 明らかにそれ以外の要因じゃない方によるものだった。	However, the act of Mari-san clicking her tongue at me is, without a doubt, due to what I said.
44	春希	Haruki	「麻理さんには 迷惑掛けることになるかもしれませんけど…」	"I know this might give you trouble, Mari-san…"
45	麻理	Mari	「ふん、迷惑なものか。 仕事を始めて少なくとも２年は教育みたいなもの。 足を引っ張りこそすれ会社に利益をもたらしたりしない」	"Humph, it's not about trouble. Starting from work you'd have to waste at least two years of studying. Otherwise you'll just drag us down and bring the company any profit at all."

47	麻理	Mari	「松岡を見てみろ。 あいつがいい例だ」	"Look at Matsuoka, for instance. He's a good example."
48	春希	Haruki	「…本人も気にしてましたけどね、 いっつも松岡さんをオチに使うのはどうかと」	"…I'd say he's not exactly okay with that. Constantly using Matsuoka-san as a joke isn't really appropriate."
49	麻理	Mari	「あれであと２年すればちゃんと使えるようになるんだ。 会社ってのはよくできてるんだよ」	"Training even a guy like him for two years can make him useful. The company's known to be good for a reason."

51	麻理	Mari	「まぁ、私はバイト時代から頭角を現わしていたけどな」	"Well, I can't say I wasn't rising up the ranks back when I was still a part-timer, though."
52			もしかして、それを言いたかっただけなんだろうか？ 結構深い話を聞かせてもらった気になってたのに。	Is this all she has to say after all? I feel as if though she was about to explain something more complex.
53	春希	Haruki	「でも、そういうわけだったら、 俺が辞めても問題ないですよね？ どうせ麻理さんの役に立ってる訳じゃないんだし」	"Well, if it's going to be like that, nothing's wrong with me resigning, right? It's not like I've been capable of helping you out much anyway, Mari-san."
54	麻理	Mari	「…どうしてお前は 大局的に物事を捉えることができないんだ？」	"…Why can't you put your eyes on the bigger picture?"
55	春希	Haruki	「ただの給料泥棒だからじゃないですか？」	"I'm just someone who works for pay after all, no?"
56	麻理	Mari	「会社的には、後で回収するはずの必要な投資だ。 ひよっこがそんなこと気にするなんて おこがましいんだよ」	Company-wise, you're an important investment that's bound to be collected later. A rookie caring about things like that is ridiculous.
57			元々気分が悪そうだった麻理さんに、 どんどん不機嫌が混ざっていくことで、 言葉の刺が鋭さを増していく。	Mari-san, who seemed to not be okay from the start, is getting increasingly cranky with the thorns in her words growing in sharpness.
58	春希	Haruki	「でも、そろそろ就職活動も始めないと…」	"But it's about time I went out and find a job…"
59	麻理	Mari	「ウチに入るんだからウチで働くことこそが就職活動だ。 あんまりウダウダ言ってると内定出ても取り消すぞ」	"You joined us, so working under us itself is your job hunt. If you keep blabbering on too much I'll revoke your job offer even if you get one."

61	麻理	Mari	「ウチの会社にウジウジした奴はいらない」	"Our company doesn't need indecisive brats in our ranks."

63	麻理	Mari	「いい加減にしろ北原。 お前、私を怒らせるためにわざわざ呼び出したのか？」	"You're getting full of yourself, aren't you, Kitahara? Are you saying you asked me out here just to anger me?"

66			と、麻理さんはふてくされたように鼻を鳴らすと、 グラスに少しだけ口をつけ、余計に顔をしかめる。	And with that, Mari-san behaves like a child looking sulky, puts her lips slightly to her glass, and brings about an excessive frown.
67			でも俺は、そうやって叱られていくたびに、 ほんの少しだけど、いつもの元気を取り戻す。	But for me, every time I get scolded like that, even if it's just a little, I get back some of my usual wellness.
68			俺が辞めるって言い出すことが、 麻理さんをそこまで不機嫌にするって事実が、 逆説的ながら、少しだけ面映ゆいから。	The reality that me saying that I'm going to quit makes Mari-san this sulky makes a bit embarrassed, though it should be the opposite.
69	春希	Haruki	「ねぇ、麻理さん」	"Hey, Mari-san."

71	春希	Haruki	「俺…本当に開桜社を狙ってもいいんですか？ もしかしたら、麻理さんの部下になるかもしれないのに」	"Can I…really be a part of Kaiousha? I might end up being an underling under you, Mari-san…"

Phirb: The word that I used friend more literally means an employee that joined a company in the same year as yourself.

86			今、俺がその話をした瞬間、 肩がびくんって震えたじゃないですか。	The moment I brought this up, your shoulders shivered didn't they?

88	春希	Haruki	「でも…厚かましいかもしれないけど、 麻理さんが、いつか忘れてくれるなら、 前向きに償いたいって、思ってます」	"However… this may sound shameless coming from me but, if Mari-san put it in the past sometime, I think I'd like to make up for it looking forward."
89			そんな麻理さんの態度に、少なからず寂しさを覚えつつ、 それでも努めて明るい声を出す。	Though it makes think considerably of the loneliness, I still manage to speak out as joyfully as I can in the face of Mari-san's attitude.
90	春希	Haruki	「来年の春、きっと俺、編集部に戻ってきます。 一生懸命働いて返しますから、だから…」	"I'm sure I'll return in next year's spring. I'll put all my effort into working to owe you, so…"
91	麻理	Mari	「だから今すぐそれをやればいいんだ。 遠慮なく限界まで償わせてやるから」	"Then that's what you should be doing right now. I'll push you to the limit to make up for it, if thats what you want."
92	春希	Haruki	「今は…駄目です。 俺がいたたまれません。 気持ちの整理、まだついてないから」	"I can't… not now. I won't be able to bear it. My feelings are a mess right now."
93	麻理	Mari	「そこまで落ち込むくらいなら、 あんな迂闊なことしなければいいんだ。 …その気もなかったくせに」	"If it makes you that depressed, then you shouldn't have done that stupid thing. ...That's not how you felt, though."

95	麻理	Mari	「だから落ち込むなって言ってるだろ！ …いや、今のは蒸し返した私が悪い。忘れて」	"I'm saying don't be so depressed! ...No, it's my fault for bringing it up again. Forget it."

97			努めて明るく振舞ってた態度を思い切りしぼませつつ、 でも俺は、心の中で一つだけ承伏していなかった。	She wilts away my joyful acting as much as she can, but there was one thing in my heart that I had not considered.

103	春希	Haruki	「今は、そうっとしておいてください。 その代わり一年後、もっと使える奴になってから… 胸を張って、麻理さんの下に戻ってきますから」	"Please keep this a secret for now. In exchange for that, I'll become a more useful guy in a year… and then I'll puff out my chest and come back to work under you."

105			麻理さんの声は、相変わらず不機嫌だったけれど、 ほんの少し、拗ねたようなアクセントが混じってた。	Mari-san's voice was sulky as it should be, but it was mixed with a little bit of an accent that sounded like a pout.
106	麻理	Mari	「自分の気持ちばかりで人の都合を考えない。 これだから近頃の若い奴は…」	"It's all about your feelings but you don't consider the circumstances with others. It's because of this that young people these days…"

130			麻理さんから取り上げたグラスには、 いつもより、ちょっと濃いめの口紅がついていた…	The glass that I took from Mari-san had a bit more of stronger lipstick than usual.
131			俺は、そのキスマークをライトにかざすと、 噛みしめるように、ぽつぽつ話し始める。	As I raised the glass' kiss mark up to the light, I began to talk in bite-size bits.
132	春希	Haruki	「あの時考えてたこと、感じてたこと、全部。 …その上で、麻理さんに裁いてもらおうと思ってます」	"What I was thinking that time, what I felt, everything. ...Also, I think I'll get you to judge that."

137			麻理さんは、顔を背けただけじゃなく、 とうとう反応するのもやめてしまった。	Not only did Mari-san turn her back away, but now she's even stopped giving a reaction.
138	春希	Haruki	「…そこに、一緒に映ってる俺のことも」	"...Also there with her, is me."
139			それでも、ちゃんと聞き耳を立ててくれていると信じて、 俺は、峰城大付属学園３年Ｅ組の前期委員長であり、 軽音楽同好会補欠の北原春希へと戻っていく。	In spite of that, I still believe that she is honestly listening to me. I return back to myself 3 years ago, as the rep of Houjou High's class 3-E, and the backup for the light music club.
