==Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan== Hello. I have just registered to Baka Tsuki and I would like to thank you for your Radukai Kishi No Calvalry translations. Being one of my most favorite anime series, I am reading the light novel as well and without your dedicated support, these translations would not be here. Altering reading many descriptions of various users, I came to the realization that not everyone speaks the language that they are translating fluently and that they are usually in the process of learning Japanese themselves. I would like to contribute by any means whether it be though editing, proofreading etc as I am a native American Speaker. Through this, I would hope to gain some experience and improve my Japanese Skills. There are a few questions that I have. 1. How do you translate? I would like to know how difficult it is to translate. Do you need to be well versed in the language? Or do you just need to know how to read it? 2. Do you need to know how to read Chinese? Japanese uses a lot of Chinese and though I know how to speak Chinese, I can't read it. Thank you for taking your time to read this note and I hope you reply! (I don't know how to do the user tag thing but I am Just4fun101) User:Just4fun101 (talk) (lol just copied and pasted this from other translator since didn't want to rewrite another version) Thanks for your support. As for the questions... 1. If you can read Japanese, then I think one of the first things you might have noticed is that I don't do literal translations of either text or prose; I can't write it myself, but I have had some contact with the theoretical underpinnings of modern Japanese prose, and I think the most rudimentary knowledge of Japanese grammar/sentence structure would tell you that it sometimes doesn't sound too good in English, and vice versa, with a direct translation. So I do take some liberties in that regard, maybe more than some. In terms of means, I take whatever I can get. If I can get the text myself from bookstores I will, and then scan and OCR what I have to translate. I'm thinking about getting Vol 9's eBook. I'm not sure, yet. I think my most unique experience was doing what I call Triangulated Translation, which I resorted to for Madan no Ou to Vanadis Vol 6 Ch 1 (you can see that it is stylistically very different from the rest of translations, which is in part due to this) - it involves English, Japanese and Chinese, using a mix of the latter two to derive the former. It was something I did due to the difficulty of the Madan text and also my lack of ability with Japanese at the time. Was more than 2 years ago now, I think? This bit probably also answers 2. Question 2, in that I can read and speak Chinese. It is helpful to know some Chinese when you read Japanese works, but it is not 100% necessary - in fact in some cases it can become a stumbling block because some kanji do not hardly mean the same thing as their hanzi equivalents, and some are barely written in the same way. This is a language history thing, but a story about the Manyougan will probably just take up space here, so TL;DR useful but not necessary. Japanese-English dictionaries, an OCR, some instinct for what regional dialect you're dealing with if you happen to come across it, Google (and hopefully a legit text!) will normally be enough to save your life, if it won't give you a good or great translation. If you something don't understand - ask it or see in previous chapters and vollumes. --Elberet (talk) 08:47, 23 December 2015 (UTC) And thanks for continue translation. I am Russian Translator from RuRanobe. Hope, that you project will not die and you will be fast with new chapters :) Good luck for you... --Elberet (talk) 08:48, 23 December 2015 (UTC) Thanks for your encouragement, and good luck to you too - as I recall you were doing -or planning to do- the Russian localization of Rakudai? Well I too hope I do not burn out too quickly. Let's continue this struggle together! DisavateraMX (talk) 10:26, 23 December 2015 (UTC) I'm plannig it, but... someone outstrip me. Now i only fan of this ranobe :) I have 1 question: do you need electronic version of fifth vollume(it is NOT scans)? Or KLSymph give it to you(i send it to him on email)? If you need it - send a word to my email(juric8899@gmail.com) and i send it to you. --Elberet (talk) 13:07, 23 December 2015 (UTC) Hey, I am a huge fan of your works and really appreciate your effort i started the novel 'Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan' but there are only done till Volume 6 Chapter 2 i hope you are working on it, as i really am eager to read the later text...
