Slowly but surely, the saturation level was surpassed.

Or you could call it the last straw.

She had used the Spanish Fly Indulgence Bank and elf-obsessed old Elinalva to try and do things in secret.



The Spanish Fly Indulgence Bank had been a small-time villain, but given time to grow, they could have expanded their illicit financial reach until they were taking over prep schools and could steal research funding from people working for Maleficium. Then they could have driven Temple School City as a whole to financial ruin, preventing the city administration and Maleficium itself from functioning.



Elinalva had been discovered too soon for someone off in the Dazzling Forest so far from Temple School City. If word of an elf being discovered had been allowed to spread more widely and the Benandanti moved in to deal with her, the whole thing could have been ''presented as'' the elites trying to steal credit from an independent researcher. That would have pitted Maleficium against the self-taught witches in a cold war that split the land in two.



But neither plan had come to fruition.

She had stayed hidden this far to protect herself, but her pursuers were going to find her before long.

At this rate, she would fail to accomplish anything before Maleficium’s counterattack began.

That would save no one.

Not a single one.

So.

She decided it was time she took direct action.

To save the innocent.
