It was the liminal time when evening was shifting into night.

It was the last bit of free time before Sabbath Party needed to get serious about gathering customers.

“I roll two die and get…9! Tah,dah! I enter the punishment club!!”

“My turn. I do alchemy practice. I get as much money as I roll with my dice.”

“Ugh!! B-but now it’s my turn. Let’s see if I can clear the abandoned school building dungeon. If I roll an odd number, I get injured in the dungeon…gah!?”

“6. If I am already an adult, I have a child and all other players have to give me one gold as a baby gift.”

“Nooo.”

Viocia collapsed limply to the floor from her seated position, so Freynir, the supposed winner, grew flustered (with no change of expression).

A knock came at the door.

Dancer Olivia entered with a silver tray in her hands.

“I brought some iced tea and snacks. What are you doing, Viocia?”

“Heh heh. We’re taking a short break to play the game of school life!”

Think of it like a detailed board game based on life at Maleficium. The parchment game board was pasted to the top of a wooden board that folded in three. It was pretty big when unfolded.

Freynir tilted her head in a sexy(?) sitting position on the floor with her legs below her but swept to the side.

“For your information, landlady, this ‘short break’ has lasted two hours at this point.”

“Bff!? Don’t tell her that!”

Viocia moved quickly to cover the elf’s mouth, but Olivia didn’t get after her.

Viocia may have seen this as taking it easy instead of doing her work, but the game of school life was technically classified as educational material. The brooms and carriages used as game pieces, the dice, the cards, the money, the gems, and all the other little items were secretly packed full of witchcraft knowledge and techniques.

Olivia knew this quite well since this was a version she and Strena had bought when they were students.

A somewhat sad smile appeared on Olivia’s face, but she hid it.

Adults who had forgotten how to achieve their dreams learned a lot of tricks like that.

“There’s a flea market on Sunday,” said Viocia. “I hope I make some great finds there.”

“Hm? Lady Viocia, aren’t you already looking for something in particular?”

“Heh heh. The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft Herb Correspondences! Moloch wants it now that she’s learned to cook.”

“I roll 11. A shooting star full of gems lands nearby and I have a chance at becoming a millionaire.”

“What!? …M-money isn’t everything at school.”

“But is this really what life at Maleficium is like? Didn’t some outside worker who knows nothing about the school make it?” asked Freynir.

Olivia shrugged.

“I never got in, so I wouldn’t know.”

“Don’t worry,” said Viocia, staring at the board. With a perfectly natural smile. “I’ll get in and then I can find out for you!”

“Yes. I hope to hear all about it.”
