The tale that begins from here is a tragedy that is sung through a comedy. But before that, let me give you a small explanation.

It was said that the great king of terror would descend in 1999. That in itself is a lie and a hoax. The truth is that this country has come to an abrupt end. If you ask me why, I can only give you one explanation.

It’s because two worlds have connected.

So you may be asking “What the hell happened?!”

Or “How did it come to be like this?!”

The boundary between the eternal world and the human world has been connected.

And so, this country became connected to hell and paradise.

Ghosts, yokai, mythical beasts, spirits, and other types of apparitions began to appear here and there. Moreover, the country was completely covered by an invisible wall, making it impossible to enter or leave the country. When those who tried to escape found out about it, there was an uproar. What really was going on out there? They couldn't even find out what was going on outside.

The government was paralyzed by this earth-shattering situation. Everyone was in a panic. The whole country was in an uproar, crying and screaming. This confusion and chaos lasted for about ten years.

During all this uproar, wars between yokai and humans occurred. But hey, people got used to it! Or rather, ''they had no choice but to.''

At any rate, whether we liked it or not, yokai were everywhere.

Eventually, the people calmed down. We passed the period of confusion and entered the period of desperation.

Now, it's as if this country has reverted to its state at the time just after the end of the world war.

Black markets were set up, people were eating porridge, and some wealthy people indulged in debauchery. However, combined with fuel shortages, some of the infrastructure ceased to function. The decline and devastation of civilization also increased rapidly due to the aversion of Tokoyo, the everlasting nation, to advanced science. Nevertheless, each individual set up their own local government and business networks with people who made a lot of money. Organizations known for their power, namely, The Redbeard League, Farewell Alliance, The Tanukikai, Hyakki Yagyo Shoji, Fukuzatsu Industry and other such oddballs have appeared one after another. In other words, these organizations are like weeds that are hard to pull out.

And naturally, some of these organizations do business with yokai. As a result, deception forms between humans and yokai.

Ah, yes, “deception”.

This story is about deception. It’s about two idiots living in this broken country. Minasaki Toworu is a detective who solves cases with his Kiseru pipe. On the other hand, he has an assistant, a little demon fox girl who can turn and change her appearance at will.

Well, then. I bet you're curious as to who I am, narrating all of this. 

You want to know who I am, don’t you? But I won’t tell. Think of me as a mere narrator. After all, this is only the prologue. Please, take a seat. Come on now, it looks like you’re ready.
