I'd like to ask if this story (Seeking the Mysterious Devil King, the Campione) is needed to understand the plot that follows it? do characters like the cousin introduced here appear in the main story line later?

The last line seems awkward. "One of the seven devil kings himself?"
Maybe like this "One of the seven devil kings like himself?" (mokata)

If he is the one saying the later then it is the one that is awkward. The former is better if he is the one saying the line.(Neiser)
