(so first, "spanner" is a general term. there are several variations of it, including "box-end wrench". so it's kind of like saying "they had animals and a bear". which type of spanner is the first one? secondly, the construction of this sentence implies that they have several wrenches of both kinds. can you check this pls? because if the first one is an adjustable spanner, then they wouldn't need several of them.)
: "box-end wrench" should be replaced by "hex key" or whatever you want to call them. If that's not enough of a distinction, I've read that in Japanese "spanners" are considered double-sided while "wrenches" tend to be one-sided.
