(PART 3)

(PART 3)

"How did I end up getting paired with you as a guinea pig?" asked Lennox. He is walking right in the open of the city alongside Jessiah. "Oh yeah that's right, it's because you volunteered me to join you!!!"

  +
Ubica now sits alone by the little pond; Daey has left to head back to join the group. He lets out a nervous sigh as he plops his back onto the soft grass.
Jessiah smiles as the light from the fires they leave behind shine on his bald head. "Come on Lennox, we're not guinea pigs, we are diversions."

  +
"Ubica..."
"That's the same thing you meat head!"

  +
A voice comes from above the bank where he is laying, prompting him to sit up quickly and turn around.
"Whaaatever, either way this is definitely the best job because all the action comes to us, stop being such a pansy."

  +
"Ah, Trojia" he says as he readies to stand.
Lennox lets out a sigh of exasperation and stops talking, the two walk in the middle of the street with weapons in hand, each building or house lights on fire the moment they pass. This isn't their doing though, flame tipped arrows land perfectly into windows, lighting the curtains on fire and sending the structures ablaze.

  +
“Daey said you wanted to talk to me.”
"Wow, Allia sure is a good shot ain't she?" says Jessiah when he looks at the destruction in awe.

  +
Trojia puts her hand out as if telling him to be at ease, he sits back down. She takes a seat next to him and now the two are shoulder to shoulder.
Lennox scratches his head, "No shit, that's her job. If she wasn't the best she wouldn't be here."

  +
“Yeah, I figured it’d be a little tough to talk in front of everyone else.”
"You sure are in some kind of a piss ant mood aren't you? You seem a lot happier around everybody else."

  +
As much as he struggles to bring this up, he’s forced to address something that has been intentionally avoided these last couple days.
"That's because you are by far the most annoying out of everyone."

  +
They’ve all collectively shied away from bringing up Niomyo’s death in an awkward dance of protecting each other’s feelings, and this has resulted in Trojia stewing over it by herself.
Jessiah is about to reply to this subtle insult when he sees a group of a few dozen soldiers running up the road toward them.

  +
“How are you feeling?”
"Hey hey, no cavalry?"

  +
"You mean about what happened to Niomyo?"
Lennox pulls his sword out of its sheathe and says, "Beggars can't be choosers."

  +
"Yeah..."
Jessiah swings his long spear over his head readies himself in a battle position. "I ain't begging, I just wanted a little bit more of a warm up to start off the night."

  +
She purses her lips in reluctance at first, but then lets out a saddened sigh before answering, "You know... it's my fault that she's gone."
At the end of his words he fearlessly rushes at the group of soldiers. Lennox holds a straight face as he follows closely behind.

  +
"What do you mean?"
The soldiers have no clue what to think about this situation, they look around in confusion trying to find more intruders, but instead of over thinking it they let their instincts take over and they run to attack the two.

  +
"That night, I sent her to look for you guys because I was angry at her and wanted her to leave me alone... my spoiled attitude ended up costing Niomyo her life."
However, the instincts and adrenaline that go along with hand to hand combat would never be felt by either side of the opposing forces. The reason for this is that the group of a few dozen Trojan soldiers are brought to an abrupt halt when a bundle of flaming arrows hits the front line of the men square in the chest. The front men drop and the back men fall over them, the ones that fell struggle to get off of their dead and flaming comrades without lighting themselves on fire.

  +
He can sympathize with her feelings, he’s been blaming himself for what happened from the beginning.
Lennox and Jessiah stop their attack and have looks on their faces like, 'No fair!!'

The two look at each other and Jessiah says, "We can't let her have all the fun."
+
Trojia throws her head into her arms and says, "How am I supposed to live with that?”

  +
Trojia is an only child, unlike the other Princes and Princesses who have siblings of a similar age, she had no one to turn to for advice except for her mother. But when she and Lelaine had their falling out, the only person she could confide in was Niomyo, and whether or not her guard told her what she wanted to hear, Niomyo was always there for her no matter what.
Lennox smiles as if he hates to agree with him and the two rush towards the remaining men. But once again they are stopped, this time it's by something that makes the two have no choice but to jump backwards in fear for their life.

  +
"The last thing I said to her was so cold and mean, even though she was only trying to help me I rejected her efforts and sent her off to die."
The remaining men burst into a swirling inferno.

  +
Tears start running down her face as she sinks into her arms pressed against her knees.
Running along the rooftops is Allia, she had just thrown a makeshift molotov cocktail into the center of the group of soldiers whom had flaming arrows sticking to their chests.

  +
"You don't have to live with it alone." Ubica answered sternly.
The result of this is the painful death of of every last one of them.

  +
He can't help but reach out to her, he puts his arm over her shoulders and delicately pulls her towards him.
Allia smiles and waves at the two as she jumps from one rooftop to another and disappears out of sight.

  +
This catches her off guard, now being held so close she tenses up.
The two men stare in amazement toward the direction where she ran off to, the only thing of her that can be seen is her flaming arrows flying through the night sky and the sound of the screams after they land.

  +
Ubica feels this and says, "I’ll shoulder that blame with you, I didn't protect Niomyo from what I was doing, and she was caught up in my fight with Mammon. So we can share the guilt together and get out of here for her sake."
"Ahh fuck that! She snaked us!!" shouts Jessiah.

  +
"No, that's not fair on you..." she said, the tenses in her body melted like ice under the sun upon hearing his words.
Lennox scopes the area and wonders which way is the best way for a strategic attack, that's when he realizes that from the beginning, the two of them are the only ones of the Ten Knights that aren't hidden.

  +
"You simply being here now isn’t fair on you. Because it’s not fair, the only thing I can do is share in the emotions of your heart. If you’re in pain, I promise I’ll take half, if you’re sad, I’ll take on half of your sadness, and if you find the occasional happiness while here, I want to share that with you and double it.”
They are out in the open to lure the brunt of the Trojan army occupying the town while the rest of the ten pick them off in stealth like attacks. it would seem that it has worked because of Allia setting all of those fires and leading soldiers to their position, it's only a matter of time before a full fledged defense force is sent to counter the intruders.

  +
Trojia remains silent underneath his arm, as genuine as his declaration was, the silence makes him feel a little embarrassed.
"Alright, now it's time for the marathon to start." says Lennox as he keeps his hearing set on the approaching footsteps of countless soldiers.

  +
He knows that now isn’t the time to worry about his own feelings, but he can’t help but think those words were a little too sappy even for him.
Jessiah smiles wholeheartedly as his anxiety rises more and more with each passing second. "On the count of three?"

  +
“Hmph..” Trojia puffs, her head still hidden in her arms. “You’re something else you know that?”
Lennox runs his hands through his hair and pulls a mirror out of his pocket, he makes some faces like he is some kind of model and then says, "I'm too damn good looking for this kind of grunt work."

  +
Flustered, Ubica cringes and averts his gaze.
Jessiah twitches his eyebrow. "Hey, we kind of have a tense moment here, why the hell do you always do that before a battle? Is it some kind of superstition?"

  +
“But…” Trojia lifts her head up and looks to him. “This is who I know you to be. If only Niomyo could’ve seen what I see in you. You’ll have to continue to prove her wrong, that way she can rest in peace.”
Lennox smiles and says in a cocky tone, "Superstition? Na, I just need to keep the look of my pretty face stuck in my mind so I make sure it doesn't get scratched. I guess you can call it extra motivation."

  +
Ubica doesn’t know of Niomyo’s animosity toward him before she was killed, so he’s a little confused. But when Trojia smiles at him through her tears, there’s no way he could find it in him to pry. Instead he reciprocates her smile and replies,
Jessiah smacks him rather hard on his back and laughs, "That's a little gay but whaaaaaatever. Do the damn countdown already."

  +
“I’ll do whatever it takes.”
Lennox frowns and shouts, "It's not gay at all!!"

Jessiah laughs aloud causing Lennox to start his countdown in frustration.

"3! 2! 1! GO!!"

The two split up and run in opposite directions down two different alleyways, as soon as they do this, hundreds of soldiers run down the street to confront them.

  +
-----------------------
All of the soldiers stand battle ready as they scour the surrounding area in silence, the sound of the fire cracking a wooden post breaks their focus and they all shift their attention toward the source of the sound.

When they see that it was nothing, they turn back to their original post.

  +
But something is odd, it feels like they are missing something.

  +
"You made it here Aria..." said Achille Gallo in a hoarse voice.

  +
He lies weakly on his back and looks up at Sora and the girl he raised as a daughter.
The left, and the back flank each have four or five downed and dead men, how this happened is certainly a mystery. They all ask themselves a question of how and try to come up with an answer, in the time it takes them to think of what could have happened a few more of them are dead.

  +
"That's right... thanks to your map and all that you've taught me."
This time the men died on the front and the right flank. By now, the soldiers realize that they are dealing with a formidable foe; little do they know, they are dealing with the best that La'Juune has to offer.

  +
He faintly smiles with a face full of pride, he scans his eyes around and witnesses the battle and the people involved in it.

  +
He notices the absence of his adopted son and asks, "Where's Stauphius?"

  +
"We got separated, but he'll be here soon!"
----------------------------

  +
Achille coughs a little and tries to raise his upper body, Aria and Sora try to help him but both think that it wouldn’t be wise to put out any excess physical effort.

  +
Once upright, he shoots her a serious glare and says, "It's good he's not here... listen to me Aria, you must get out of here immediately."

  +
"Huh? Why would I do that?"
Celestia Letrova is inside a house directly in the center of Tronoble, this area is surrounded by homes, condominiums, restaurants, shops, and even an outdoor theater. All of these living areas cast over a town circle that has a fountain with a statue of a large horse standing in the middle of a man-made lake. Close to a thousand soldiers are packed in the town center and are being debriefed from a few higher ups as to what is happening.

  +
"Don't ask questions and just go." he answers with a rough cough.
Celestia carelessly pokes her head out through the window as she wears a smile and listens to them. One of the soldiers is standing on the platform to the outdoor theater, he has decorations all over him so it is obvious that he is a man of rank.

  +
"B-But we've trained all these years so we could get here..."
He holds his arms out as he addresses the men, "As you all know, enemies have intruded Tronoble. Though we don't know how many intruders there are, it is safe to assume that the country of Eiyalazo has commenced this attack to assassinate the King. What we all need to do is start our search from here, and work our to the outskirts of town, there are seven more battalions of our size occupying the city so they will be searching as well. Our job is to protect the King at all costs, the manor in which the Ball is being held is completely surrounded by our soldiers so all that is left to do is find, capture, and kill our enemies."

  +
"I'm sorry Aria, but you must go."
The address is cut short by the sound of a giggling girl heard from above, all of the soldiers look up and see a cheery looking pink haired girl standing atop a rooftop a few houses away with a smile on her face.

  +
"I don't understand, why are you telling me this now? After all this time!?"
She moved through the house to the roof so she can be heard much easier when she declares, "Haha, you are all so cute when you're confused like that. You all really have no clue what exactly is going on, but luckily for you I'm here to give you the answers!"

  +
"Because it's pointless to pass the Gate!" Achille shouts, expending almost all the energy his voice box has left. Aria stares at him, surprised by the fervor of his tone as he continues, "There are still four more Gates once you get past this one... think about how long it took me to find this Gate, imagine starting anew four different times before you reach Earth again... It's impossible."
The mass of soldiers all glare at her in a serious confusion, they don't know whether to take her as an intruder or just a girl, that is, until she speaks to the man in charge standing on the platform.

  +
"N-No way... They never told me anything about that."
"This attack isn't by Eiyalazo... Take a look behind you."

  +
When she says 'they' she means Rage and the others; when they first met it seemed like they were clueless about how to get out of Purgatory. So for the first few days she thought that they were completely dependent on her and Strauphius, but not too long after it became obvious that Rage was much more knowledgeable about this world.
The decorated man looks turns his head to the wall behind him and that is the last thing he would ever see, the man's head is decapitated at his shoulders by what looks like a golden rounded shield and it slams into the wooden wall and sticks. The edges of this shield are razor sharp and over six inches long, its shape faintly bulges up towards its center and a small hole with an extremely thin wire flows out of it.

  +
The group the twins joined knew exactly what it took to get back home but just didn't know the direction; so it's a surprise to her that they never bothered to mention to her that their situation is much more implausible than it already is.
The men all jump in shock, the shield then slides out of the crater it was in and falls to the floor next to the man's body.

  +
Achille glares at her again and tries to tempt her to leave by giving her one final warning.
A few soldiers quickly rush to the scene and find an emblem embedded on its center, it is the simply designed crest of La'Juune.

  +
"But that's not all... that man, the Gatekeeper... he is unbeatable."
One of the men has a cold sweat run down his temple when he says, "No way."

  +

Celestia laughs, "Hahaha that's right! You are way off on your deduction, the attacking country is La'Juune and there are only ten of us committing this act. So.."

  +
------------------
Celestia jumps off the roof top and lands in the middle of a road that's just outside of the town circle. With a flick of her hand the shield jumps from the platform and slings itself all the way back to her position.

She can do this because of a silver-mail glove she is wearing that connects to the wire of the shield.

  +
With a simple flick of a finger she can control the distance, direction, and angle in which the shield travels. Despite her air-headed attitude and demeanor, Celestia is actually a full blown genius, she invented and made this weapon herself and has been making many other weapons for the La'Juutian military since she was the young age of ten.

  +
The lights surrounding Phoenix exude the energy of violence, if anger had a natural color it would shine like this as it illuminates so bright that it could be seen as a beacon beaming up towards the heavens as far as the sky can stretch.

  +
The feeling coming from this is not what you'd expect from a man of God, but rather, to Rage, it feels more similar to the feeling that comes from Ubica when he allows himself to become absorbed by his power.
"Let's see if all of you muscular men can put up a fight against a small girl."

  +
(This power... What has happened to the Messiah!?) Rage thinks to himself as he stares in awe.
The soldiers become infuriated and a group of about twenty rush at her, Celesia smiles and doesn't even attempt to move.

  +
His first instinct is to protect the rest of the group, so he raises his scythe and forms a black cloud that surrounds himself and the rest of them like a lantern would a candle.
The sprinting men show no sign of wavering until they are cut to pieces and their body parts fall at Celestia's feet.

  +
"What in the world is going on out there!?" shouts Cyrus in confusion.
Every last one of the twenty men were decapitated before they could even comprehend what had happened, and the rest of the soldiers look at the gruesome scene in shock.

  +
The truth is, Rage doesn't even know how to address that question, so instead he just clicks his tongue and shuts his eyes.
Celestia cheerfully laughs and twirls her blade shield over her head when she says, "This is one of my very own inventions, this is transparent piano wire. Well now you can see it because of their blood." She points at the area where this string is tied, the entire length of the gap between the houses and buildings are bound with this invisible wire. Celestia stretches her arms and back as she finishes, "Every last alleyway is covered, don't even try to cut it, it's pretty damn close to unbreakable. And wouldn't recommend trying to ease your way in between the gaps either, one wrong move and you'll get stuck and be cut to bits, as you can tell it's razor sharp ya' know."

  +
"How is Phoenix able to do these things!?" asks Xavier, his tone demanding an answer.
After her stretching she swings her shield and throws it atop a building, the wire retracts itself and it shoots her up like a bungee cord.

  +
They all bombard themselves with unanswerable questions that Rage thinks are directed towards him, he grows increasingly frustrated until the breaking point in which he shouts in anger,
"All of you are trapped in my web and none of you will escape! Hahahaha I hope you guys are ready!"

  +
"Shut up!!"
Celestia starts sprinting across the roof tops, the majority of the gaps in between the houses aren't too big but the bigger, street side ones, are more then thirty feet across. She easily jumps that distance with length to spare. A bold attempt considering she just got done saying that there are razor sharp invisible cable wires below her just waiting to chop her into pieces. She flings her shield downwards and attacks a group of fifteen or so men that are separated from the rest, they are picked off like they were made of cardboard, limbs fly all over and the area and just like that, a small chunk of the battalion had been defeated.

  +
The group instantly stops their babbling and looks at him in shock, he takes a deep breath and calmly says, "That man, is not who you think it is... as to how and why he is doing all this, I do not know. So stop pestering me with questions that I can’t give you the answer to."
She continues her run and continues her assault, taking out large numbers of men as they scurry around in panic, some try to run into a house to get to the rooftops but find that they are completely useless once there. They cannot jump half as far as she can and are killed instantly from one of her long distance attacks. Some try to cut the wire that holds the shield but their steel swords are sliced in half as if they were sticks of butter.

  +
His cold glare makes them all jolt back in nervousness; his reaction reminds them of a playful warning from Ubica about how upset Rage gets when asked too many questions.
Many other desperate attempts are being conjured up and attempted but none of them seem to work, the water of the pond in the middle of the town center turns red with blood as many more men are systematically being eliminated.

  +
There is a reason why he is so short when it comes to things like this, throughout time the one thing that is most likely questioned more than any other is one way or another involving 'death'. Along with it comes hate and love, some people fear death immensely and some welcome it with open arms, and some poor souls seek it as salvation from the struggles of living.
All of this carnage carries itself out while one cheery pink haired girl dances atop rooftops and laughs loudly in pleasure.

  +
These feelings are directly implanted within the soul of Rage, he has been repeatedly questioned for thousands of years about what he really represents and so on.

  +
The hatred for an existence long interrogation from the masses is one of the reasons why he named himself Rage in the first place, whether it be the fault of Heaven or Hell, the result will always be the same.

  +
One person does not tremble in fear at Rage, but instead presses forward and asks yet another question.
----------------------------

  +
"Shouldn't we help him?"

  +
This unusually stern voice comes from Luke.

  +
Rage glares at him and answers, "If you had any kind of eyesight you'd see that the way he is right now, help is the last thing he needs."
"Let go of me." Rain viciously says with an abundance of hate in her eyes.

  +
"But even so, I can't just sit here and not do anything about it."
Noah squeezes her even tighter and says, "Keep watching Rain, this is a once in a lifetime experience for someone like you."

  +
Luke stands strong, such a rare performance of conviction coming from the shy Prince has the group more in shock about this than the situation that is occurring just on the other side of the cloud.
"Tch, I don't know what makes you think you know me so well."

  +
"Well you don't have a choice in the matter, you're stuck here."
"I have a spy in Eiyalazo who is very close to you, and he has informed me of every last quirk of yours."

  +
Luke sighs and looks to the floor, after a moment of silence he clenches his fists and his shoulders tense up, as if struggling to convince himself to speak he mumbles, "L-Let me out."
Rain's eyes grow large in shock. "Spy!? Impossible!"

  +
"??"
Noah ignores her surprise and continues, "I have grown very interested in you Rain, so much so that one of the reasons I chose to invade this town was specifically in spite of you."

  +
Rage twitches his eyebrow at the boy's open defiance.
Rain grits her teeth, "And what is it that makes a lowly member of nobility such as myself so interesting to the extent that the only remaining member of the royal family of La'Juune has a personal interest in me?"

  +
Luke raises his head and reveals a face full of determination. "You know... since I got here I noticed something strange going on with my body... I can do things, incredible things that I never could before."
Noah smiles and presses her body up against the balcony railing as he looks out at the destruction of Tronoble. "Quite a few things actually... One of them is what goes on in that head of yours, the way you think as a Battle Strategist intrigues me to a certain extent."

  +
"Wait... you don't mean--"
"Hehehe, I see, so you are hoping that I'd give up some information if you torture me... I doubt an idea like that will work, I'll bite my own tongue off before I ever offer you a single word."

  +
Rage is interrupted by the continuation of Luke's declaration, "I have always been a shy kid, maybe that's why I never told anybody about it. But the guilt kept building the more and more I saw everyone get hurt while I stood aside and did nothing... This time is different, I've known Phoenix for all my life, and it would seem like he has been hiding something as well, but he decided to reveal it and fight to protect us. So now, as a friend, I'm gonna fight alongside him!"
Noah faintly laughs until his face turns solemn and his demeanor turns cold, he squeezes her hand extremely hard and says, "That isn't what I want to do... What I really want to know about is this disgusting hand of yours."

  +
Rage huffs air out of his nose and sarcastically smiles, "A touching speech, but that isn't going to make me let you leave."
Rain is once again in shock, 'It can't be...' she thinks to herself. Then she thinks back at how she hasn't been able to use the powers bestowed on her by the tattoo of the pentagram on her hand, it was only a few days ago that with its help, she easily killed off nine men.

  +
Luke smiles and turns his back to Rage, he takes a couple steps and says, "I didn't think it would."
"What are you talking about?.." she wearily asks.

  +
He holds his right hand out and touches the wall of black smoke surrounding them, a white light flashes on the five fingertips and within a second a huge gap in the smoke appears and Luke casually walks through.
Noah leans into her ear so close that she can almost feel his lips rub against it when he replies, "You are being used... And there is a reason why this is so. The one pulling the strings definitely needs you to fulfill something, and it is that pathetic thought of revenge flowing through your head that makes you so much easier for him to control."

  +
The gap suddenly closes back up and Rage is completely surprised, this kind of thing has never happened before. It is incomprehensible for even a demon to break through the cloud, much less a regular human.
Noah turns her around and holds her right hand with his left and her neck with his right, it would seem that he is confident in his strength to kill Rain if needed so he lets her left hand hang free. Sensing this, Rain doesn't try to fight back, without the use of her right hand she is just a regular girl.

  +
He once again becomes angered and says under his breath, "Fighting to protect us... Foolish child, that man whom you have known your whole life is fighting only for revenge."
Looking into his cold eyes makes her very angry, it's as though he is looking down on her. She halfheartedly smiles and says, "My pathetic revenge? You contradict yourself Prince Noah, weren't you the one who declared war on my country and Troy as vengeance for the death of your father and disappearance of your two brothers? I don't want to be frowned upon by a hypocrite who has sacrificed so many lives for his own revenge."

  +
Xavier's jaw is dropping to his collarbone, his brain is exuding a large amount of effort in an attempt to understand what had just occurred. Not only his spiritual adviser has been keeping secrets and powers from him, but his own little brother has been secretly growing into the type of person who would stand up to death and reveal his own amazing ability just to defy him.
Noah holds a straight face until his lips faintly rise. "I must say, you are indeed wrong in that assessment."

  +
Having no clue how to react to all this, he lets his thoughts exit his mouth in a shout,
"What?"

  +
"Seriously just what the fuck is going on!?!?!?"
"I don't bear feelings of such trite, as a child I modeled myself after a person who held nothing towards his enemies and felt close to the same for his friends and family. If one can do that, revenge would be the last thing on their mind if a situation like this occurs."

"Then what the hell did you declare war for!?"

"That is simple, whoever killed my father, kidnapped my two brothers and our great General Napoleon has committed an act of war."

  +
---------------------
Rain stares at him in silence, she can't understand how his mind is so set on military and political actions that revenge doesn't even matter when his father is murdered. All she can do is mutter in sarcastic disbelief, "Is that so..?"

  +
Noah looks down at the ground behind Rain and then his eyes shift back at her. "But... There is something that has been bugging me. How is it that the intruders murdered a heavily guarded King, kidnapped eleven people, demolished a large castle room, escaped the city and then the country without anyone noticing their presence?"

  +
"Look at you... I do believe that you have forsaken yourself." states Pontius as he readies himself in a defensive position.

  +
Phoenix holds his hand out at points down at Pontius; the multicolored flame forms into a huge ball and immediately shoots toward the direction in which his hand points.
An interesting question to say the least; according to Rain, it could have been the Trojans who did it cause she certainly knows it's not Eiyalazo. But in all likely hood she figured that had to be La'Juune, they were the only ones capable of such a feat.

  +
The ball screams toward the surface at such a speed that there is no way Pontius can avoid it, so instead of attempting to flee he lifts his arm and takes the hit directly.
She stands in silence as Noah continues, "There is something not right about this whole war... And I'm closing in on its source, starting with you."

  +
A huge explosion rips through the hard ground as if it was a large boulder being dropped into a body of water. Rocks and debris are sent flying in all directions and mercilessly crash into the surrounding objects.
"I still don't get what you are talking about."

  +
Aria and Sora shield Achille the best they could and luckily take on only a little bit of damage.
"Are you familiar with religion Rain?"

  +
A dust cloud forms over the area and Phoenix allows himself to gently float to the ground; his face still looks rough when he says, "It was not I who has forsaken myself... now, and just like always... It was 'him'."
"Huh?.. I can't say that I am, I don't see how that has anything to do with-----."

  +
"Interesting... this is not something that I can speak with confidence about because you are much closer to the almighty than I'll ever be. But I think that something went terribly wrong, and you were the one who changed for the worse because of it." said Pilate.
"That putrid tattoo on your hand is a religious symbol, and according to my numerous spies in both Troy and Eiyalazo, you aren't the only one who has it. Prince Dice has one obviously, and another is General Sturgess of Troy. This is becoming more and more intriguing as the numbers of higher up players in this war begin to have their souls swallowed by their Deadly Sins."

  +
His voice came from the dust, and in a flash that dust gets blown away by an intense wind.
Rain glares at him in confusion, "You've lost me here Prince, Dice has nothing that I have... I don't understand where you are going this."

  +
Standing on a very small piece of land surrounded by a huge crater, the former judge is unscathed, not even the ground directly below his feet showed any sign of damage.
She is genuinely bewildered, she doesn't know that Dice has the same tattoo of a pentagram on his hand so she thinks that what Noah is saying must be false.

  +
Phoenix looks shocked but he chooses not to ask how, sensing that Pontius will explain it, he just stands there and glares at him.
Noah pays no mind to her clueless attitude as he keeps adding, "You are controlled by Wrath. Prince Dice is swallowed by Lust... And General Sturgess is consumed in Greed. Only one person is capable of controlling all of these sins and is able to tempt people into letting themselves be devoured by them. People like you who can hold influence on the world are needed to fulfill this puppet master's plan, and I truly believe that you three have met one of the real culprits behind the disappearance of all three of our country's royals."

  +
"I believe I have already told you this... It's my job to judge who is allowed to pass through the Gate, those who I don't deem fit shall never enter. Do you want to know how I know when someone is fit to pass?"
Rain tries to piece together what he is saying, it takes her a few moments but it is slowly starting to hit her as her eyes grow larger. In an instant her perspective as gotten much wider and her mind begins to move more towards his direction, she can't discredit his theory because she knows that the impossible and far-fetched has already begun to happen starting with her hand.

  +
"Tch." Phoenix hisses, he grinds his teeth as though he knows where this is going.
Noah looks like he is about to speak again when he is interrupted by a voice from above saying, "I recommend that you take off now Noah, things are going to get really sketchy in a minute." Jeffrey is standing on a rooftop and nonchalantly scratching his head as if the danger doesn't apply to him.

  +
"It is as simple as whether or not they can physically touch me."
Noah doesn't turn around when he responds, "Alright then, you know what your job is."

  +
The route in which Phoenix thought the conversation was going has been completely shattered, he was under the impression that Pilate was going to say that it was the will of God or something to that effect.
Jeffrey cracks his neck and replies, "Yeah yeah, kill the King of Troy right? That shouldn't be too hard."

  +
"Huh?" he mutters in confusion.
All the thoughts of the bigger picture that Noah has presented in Rain's head snap and turn to nothing but black. Her face contorts and she shouts, "Don't you dare touch him! He is mine to kill!!"

  +
Pontius spreads his arms, "My power is very unique, those who wish to pass for any kind of ill intentions can never touch me, I guess you can say that my body is a repellent for people like you..."
Jeffrey smiles and waves at her, his figure disappears as he jumps off the roof and walks into the balcony door.

  +
He then points out toward the crucified men and finishes, "As you can see, the majority of people who came to me were rotten as well."
Rain pleas in anger, "WAIT! WAIT!!!"

  +
Phoenix frowns and rushes Pontius.
Noah squeezes her neck so she can't speak and says, "Hmmm, I see that this hatred runs even deeper than what I've imagined. It looks like you'll be coming with me for some intense rehabilitation."

  +
Out from his arms comes the form of a flame sword that readies to stab through whatever comes in its way.
The white of Rain's eyes turn red, not only out of lack of oxygen but also out of pure anger, the thought of someone else slaying the King of Troy has gotten her blood running so hot that it could heat up an entire room if she were standing in it. Another thing that adds on to this is the fact that the powers in which the snake gave her are mysteriously non existent, she is bitter that she cannot blow this pestering Prince to pieces.

  +
Pontius stands calmly and doesn't budge from his position, the sword strikes his chest and a loud popping noise is heard.
Noah is amused at how much her psyche has deteriorated due to the pentagram, he lets go of her neck and picks up her mask that was hanging on the balcony, he puts it on her face and then pulls his own mask out of his pocket and does the same.

  +
Phoenix's flame is instantly extinguished, the fire that once emanated so terrifyingly bright is reduced to nothing more than a candle flicker.
"You'd be wise to hang on to me."

  +
He is now standing defenseless in front of the Gatekeeper with a surprised look on his face.
Noah hops up atop the ledge of the three story balcony and jumps off, pulling Rain along with him.

  +
Pontius continues his statuesque glare when he speaks, "Indeed, something went terribly wrong with you. Your intentions for passing the Gate are driven by vengeance and spite, you are no different from all of those people who lay dead behind me. For that, I shall not allow you to pass."

  +
Pontius grabs his standard issue Roman sword and violently swings for Phoenix's neck.
  +

--------------------------------

  +
---------------------

"What's going on Dice?" Ash asks as quietly and as calmly as possible.

  +
"Do you remember fighting an Eiyalazonian Captain by the name of Detreig Von Ronheim?"

  +
"You heard what the Gatekeeper said... anyone who wishes to pass that has any kind of selfish thought cannot even touch him." said Achille as he addresses Aria about their hopeless disposition.

  +
"B-But... there's gotta be some way."
"Huh? Why does----- geeechhkk!"

  +
"There truly isn't, Aria, his standards are too high. The slightest negative thought in your head will turn you into an easy target."
Dice interrupts her by pushing the knife so hard into her back that it breaks her skin. "Just answer the question."

  +
Aria frowns as she pats some of the dust off her small shirt left over from the most recent explosion, she stands up and pulls the long-sword off her back.
Ash winces and replies, "Y-Yes I do.."

  +
"I learned something about myself last week when we were attacked by a demon... it's something that I must change in order to protect these people who I now consider my friends."
"Which one of you killed him? Was it the King?"

  +
Achille looks at her with eyes pleading against her actions, "You're not actually going to fight are you?"
"I-I don't understand what's going on? Who are you?"

  +
She glares at him in determination, and that is enough to answer his question perfectly.
Dice slowly starts walking her away from the rest of the dancing crowd when he says, "My name is Dice Di'Vore, I am the Prince of Eiyalazo."

  +
Fearing the worst he tries to shout with all his strength. "No! You mustn't do that! He'll use your own motives for being here to kill you!"
"What!?"

  +
Aria frowns and quickly retorts, "I don't believe that for a damn second!"
"Quiet down.." he says as he presses the knife further into her back.

  +
Her shout makes his shoulders jump, he stays silent as she continues.
Ash is really starting to feel like a slip of his hand would result in a fatal injury, she takes deep breathes and calmly asks, "Why is someone like you threatening me like this?"

  +
"I refuse to believe that everything me and Strauph worked so hard for can be defeated like that. Besides, my motives for passing the Gate are now not only for myself, it's for my friends, and for their friends, for their family, for everyone back on Earth!"
Dice politely smiles at a few people passing by as their numbers become smaller and smaller the more the two walk deeper into the castle. His polite smile turns sour when he says, "If you just answer my question, you might be able to live through this... Who was it who inflicted the fatal blow on Captain Detreig?"

  +
It would seem that Aria has grown from a young thief into a fine young woman. She has caught a glimpse of the bigger picture and now that she realizes how grand the happenings around her actually are.
Ash has no choice but to oblige to his question, this threat is very real and like any hostage would, the demands of the hostage taker come before anything.

  +
This past month has shown her what is truly important and what her role has to be in order to protect it.
"I-It was me... I was the one."

  +
She smiles at Achille and turns away, this is the new Aria that now has more than just her brother.
Dice viciously frowns and he explains, "I'm in love with that man's daughter... But she cares more about her revenge on the ones who killed him than she does about my feelings. So what do you think I have to do to get that devotion of hers turned towards me?"

  +
This is the new Aria who is willing to risk her life for her friends and for people she has never even met.
A sickening feeling surfaces in Ash's chest, she knows the answer to his question and doesn't need him to clarify it before she realizes that she has to do something. Ash is trained in martial arts and is actually an extraordinary fighter, but do to the surprise of Dice's attack and the manner in which she is being held, there isn't much she can do without running the high risk that she'll be stabbed.

  +
This is the new Aria.
The only thing she can think of doing is something that will certainly not work, her only hope has been shut out and despair surfaces upon her face.

  +
The Aria who will fight.
Dice notices this and smiles when he whispers in her ear, "I can tell by the look on your face that you know what is going to happen... Hmph, I bet you never would have thought in the beginning of the day that this night would be your last."

  +

-----------------------------
+
-------------------------

  +
  +
Pilate's blade rips through the air at a blinding speed, Phoenix has no time to avoid it and will most certainly have his head rolling on the ground in mere moments.

  +
This situation is the exact opposite of how he expected it to go.
Ebihara Seiri and Haas Avandale are sitting atop the roof of a building; no matter where one goes in Tronoble, the large castle that holds the Ballroom can be seen.

  +
In terms of strength, it was obvious that Phoenix was so far ahead of Pontius that it felt as though he was a tiger facing off in a fight against a small deer in an enclosed space.
Seiri has a smile on her face as she stands atop a chimney. "Just a little bit longer."

  +
In a matter of fact, what he revealed wasn't even his full strength, yet no matter how much power he fought with it still wouldn't mean a thing.
She is anxious about what the scene that awaits them will look like; this girl is much like Aria, she gets very excited by explosions. The one difference between the two is age and the way they go about making their bombs. Aria can turn any object she touches into a bomb, but she is clumsy when determining how big and what kind of an explosion that object will have when she uses her ability. Seiri on the other hand uses bombs she makes from scratch with her own two hands, most of her explosives have a sole ingredient of alcohol, but being the genius she is she has created something that is far more flammable and once it is deprived of oxygen it turns into something so combustible that it is even stronger than dynamite.

  +
Pilate's unique ability to negate an attack that has negative feelings behind it means that Phoenix is now the helpless deer.
She carries this liquid in little flasks that she always carries with her, some aren't very dangerous at all, and some can level dozens of city blocks if not treated with care; one of the semi harmless flasks was given to a certain man just a couple ours earlier. She calls these potent flasks of destruction 'Light shows.'

  +
(Damn it!!)
When someone asks her why she brings up some kind of nonsense about how bombs and actors are similar to each other.

  +
He shuts his eyes and waits for what will definitely be an interesting sensation when his head is sent flying.
Haas looks at his watch and struggles to say, "...I... Need to go... Help... The others..."

  +
But, that feeling never came and the sound of a huge blast rings through his ears and forces his eyes open.
Seiri flips her hair at him and says, "Fine fine, my mission is accomplished for the night, so I'm just gonna stay here and watch the light show."

  +
What he sees is a white light that hit Pontius in the chest and sent him flying away into one of the large pillars of the Gate.
"...Understood..."

  +
He turns towards the light's source and sees Luke standing there with both hands pointed out.
Haas pulls two small swords out of his duffle bag and jumps off the roof, leaving the twelve year old Seiri by herself.

  +
"Are you okay Phoenix!?" Luke asks..
She pays no mind to his absence, instead her eyes grow large with the reflection of the castle as she repeats what she said earlier,

  +
Phoenix stares at him and softly asks, "Your attack... It worked? How?"
"Just a little bit longer.."

  +
He is amazed that an attack hit Pontius and caused him so much damage, even more so than finding out that Luke has the ability to do such a thing to begin with.

  +
"I don't know how... but since I got here I've had the ability to solidify heat, whether it is a small amount of heat or a lot, I can maneuver it into any form I want." Luke explains.

  +
He's basically saying that if there was a fire, he'd be able to take the heat from that fire and turn it into a white hot beam of energy and send it zooming at a target.
----------------------------

  +
In this case, he used his own body heat to shoot it toward Pilate, saving Phoenix just in the nick of time.

  +
Phoenix chuckles a little and regains his kind composure. "Thanks Luke... you really saved my neck there."

  +
Luke smiles and shows his pleasure in Phoenix's appreciation, but that smile quickly turns stiff when a flash is seen out of the corner of his eye.
The knife that Dice holds is about to sink into her back and Ash knows it, she shuts her eyes and shouts the only thing that comes to mind,

  +
  +
A sword is flying through the air at such a speed that it seems more like a bullet, it's a standard Roman issued short blade that's being used as a projectile.

  +
The only thing that can possibly stop the movement of the sword is Luke's face, the two are on an unavoidable collision course and neither Phoenix or Luke can do anything about it.
"ZURVICK!!!!!"

  +
Luke flinches and slams his eyes shut when all the sudden...
Dice lets go of her arm and covers her mouth with his palm, with his knife wielding hand he readies to make a huge thrust forward when

  +
SCHWIIING!!!
BBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

  +
The sound of metal against metal is heard.
The roof atop the ball explodes and thousands of pounds of debris and flames fall on the patrons who are dancing on the Ballroom floor. The frilly dresses worn by the women ignite and they all panic and run about, lighting table cloths and curtains on fire as well. Literally within a couple seconds of the explosion, the entire Ballroom is ablaze.

  +
He opens his eyes and finds Aria standing in front of him, she had just blocked the short blade's path with her huge long-sword and saved him at the last second.
"What the fuck was that!?" Dice yells in an angered surprise. He shakes off those thoughts of surprise and switches it to the assassination of the girl in front of him. "First thing's first."

  +
She turns around to him and says, "Hit the deck, this is gonna be a big one!"
As soon as his arm moves to stab her, his vision goes black and a loud thud can be heard, he senses that something has just hit him square in the eye and pain quickly follows. His body flies away from Ash and crashes into a pillar that stands on the outskirts of the Ballroom.

  +
Aria snatches the spinning short blade right out of the air before it could hit the ground, and in one swift motion she chucks the sword right back towards the direction in which it came.
Ash falls to her knees with the mindset that she has been fatally wounded and just hasn't felt it yet; from her knees she again falls to the ground but she is caught in the arms of a man before she lands. As soon as she feels the security of the man's arms it hits her, she hasn't been stabbed and she will survive.

  +
A short moment later...
'But how?' she asks herself.

  +
BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
She shifts her eyes upwards to look at the person who's arms she rests in and sees a sight that fills her with the utmost of joy.

  +
A massive explosion shakes the ground like a large quake; shards of rocks, stone, wood and marble are sent flying at them.
The man is Zurvick.

  +
Seeing that Luke didn't hit the deck at all because the whole incident happened far too fast, Aria dives on him and protects him.
The King of Troy has come to save this lowly eighteen year old girl when he heard her yell his name in horror. A switch went off in his head and his heart dropped when he heard her frantic voice, so much so that he instantly rushed to her and almost completely ignored the explosion that had just occurred. Once he saw what the shout had indicated he unhesitatingly clinched his fist and struck the assailant to get him off of her.

  +
But her efforts ended up being unnecessary, Phoenix used his cloth and turned every last piece of debris into flames; with one simple swing, any kind of projectile was deflected as if someone had swung a flyswatter into a swarm of flies.
On the King's face is a frown full of anger. He lifts Ash to her feet and steps in front of her, guarding her intensely.

  +
"Are you okay?" she asks Luke, who stares up at her with a flushed face.
Addressing Dice, who is holding his eye and glaring at him furiously, Zurvick speaks, "I don't know who you are and what you are intending to do... But anyone who dares to harm Ash in any way, is an enemy of mine."

  +
Her chest is rubbing on his shoulder so it makes his heart beat extraordinarily fast, at a closer look he sees that her small shirt has ridden up towards her neck.
Dice clicks his tongue and takes his hand off his already swollen eye, the bloody knife he holds in his right hand shines ominously with the light of the surrounding flames. He stands straight on his feet and his lips begin to rise.

  +
Despite the life threatening situation they’re in, the feeling of her chest and the sight of her bare stomach has actually done the most damage to him.
"Hehehehehe.... HAHAHAHA!!!"

  +
"Umm-ehh-ahh I'm fine!!" he shyly replies with his eyes fixated on this never before seen sight.
He squeezes the hilt of his knife with all of his strength and an odd black smoke surfaces from the back of his hand and flows up his arm.

  +
Aria's eyebrow raises as she follows his eyes down to what he's looking at, she immediately covers herself up and yelps.
"There isn't a doubt that she'll fall for me now! All I need to do is kill the both of you and she's mine!!! Hahahah she'll be all mine!"

  +
“Kyaahh!”
Dice's words hold a severe tinge of insanity and it seems that the mysterious black smoke feeds off his cockeyed expression when it wraps around his whole body.

  +
She instantly stands up off of him, pulling down her shirt at the same time.
His arm is so covered that it is not visible, Zurvick and Ash look at him in disbelief at what their eyes are seeing. The black smoke around his arm stretches to the ground, spreads wide and then dissipates in a small blast, what comes out is a three meter black sword he holds in his hand.

  +
"S-Sorry, I didn’t mean to look." Luke said, he looks more embarrassed than she does about it.
Dice smiles widely and declares, "The both of you will die and I will finally be able to hold her in my arms!"

  +
Aria huffs air out of her nose and replies, "You should be honored! You’re a lucky bastard!"
He readies to rush forward to slay them, just by standing there in the fearsome presence of such insanity it is blatantly obvious who would win the fight in this situation. Ash's knees are shaking wildly and even Zurvick is feeling somewhat afraid at the aura of evil surrounding him.

  +
"Eh?"
Dice takes his first step forward but is stopped by the figure of a man in a stylish black suit with dirty blond hair. The man steps in between the two and says, "I doubt that you'll be holding anyone at the end of all this."

  +
She smiles and sticks her tongue out at him, she then turns away and holds up her sword in a battle stance. Assuming that her attack did nothing to Pontius, she knows that the odds are stacked against her as she waits for the smoke to clear.
Dice frowns and spits at the ground. "Who the fuck are you?.."

  +
An unpleasant sweat runs down her temple when she thinks about all the recent times she used her attack on someone and failed to inflict any damage.
The man standing in between the three is none other than Jeffrey Durbin.

  +
The initial attack was on Napoleon, who due to a miscalculation in Aria's placement of a mine had miraculously survived. The second, was when she used it on Rage, only to get it deflected right back at her like a tennis ball. The third was against the great Demon Belphegor, who literally nullified it as if it was nothing.
He shrugs his shoulders and says, "I don't really matter all too much, but the person that matters the most to you is being taken away as we speak."

  +
These memories make her doubt her ability and all the years of effort she put into it, but she shrugs it off when she understands that no matter what, she must do something.
"What?"

  +
The smoke begins to clear and the silhouette of Pontius can now be seen, she tenses up and waits for him to do something, but his lack of movement makes the seconds go by even longer.
Jeffrey points to the window behind Dice and says, "Take a look."

  +
He is simply standing there like a stone, the smoke finally dissipates and what's left standing there shocks Aria.
Dice turns around and looks out the window to see Rain being held tightly against her will and taken away by the same orange haired person he saw with her earlier.

  +
Pontius is standing statue-like just as she expected, but what is amazing is his appearance.
"Rain!!" he shouts out the window.

  +
A huge hole can be seen on the right side of his chest where Luke's light hit him, and the rest of his body is covered in cuts and bruises. A couple of his ribs can be seen through a wound in his side and his face is completely bloodied, his arms and legs have shards of debris sticking into him like leeches.
Rain hears his shout and turns to look at the source of the noise, she shows him a face that screams out, 'Help me.'

  +
"I-It worked?" Aria asks, amazed at the fact she finally did some damage to her target.
All of the thoughts that he had of engaging Ash and Zurvick go screaming out of his head and only one thing remains. Dice's eyes widen and he takes a few steps from the window, he lifts his black sword and swings at the wall; with that simple motion the wall holding the window violently exploded sending debris flying into the night sky.

  +
Pontius takes a step closer and blood falls from seemingly every point of his body.
Dice hurriedly jumps through the large hole in the building and abandons his aspirations of exacting Rain's revenge on the two; the black smoke that surrounded him gently leaves the hallway and eerily follows him outside.

  +
"Tell me woman, tell me boy... Why do you want to pass through the Gate?"
A strange feeling of calm reaches the two with Dice's exit. Ash takes a deep breath and doesn't know which of the numerous questions in her head to snatch out and ask, Zurvick's tense shoulders loosen up as he looks at the destruction that had just taken place. That feeling of calm is short lived when the sound of screams coming from the burning Ballroom are heard.

Zurvick knows that he has to go into the fire to help as many people as he can, he lets Ash out of his arms and turns to Jeffery.
+
Pontius already knows the answer to this question the moment they attacked him. Their intentions were rushed into his body. But he still felt compelled to ask as if to confirm it.

  +
Luke stands up and looks determined, he and Aria glare at each other and smile, they turn back to Pontius and simultaneously reply, "To protect our friends!!"
"Thanks for your help, you really saved us back there."

  +
Pilate cracks his lips up ever so slightly and holds out his index finger.
Jeffery shrugs his shoulders and says, "Just doing my job for my King."

  +
  +
"Very good, you have my approval to pass."

  +
"Huh?"
Zurvick smiles and lifts his hand for a handshake as if to say thanks again. Jeffrey smiles softly and grabs his hand, the two's eyes meet for a moment and it becomes obvious that something is wrong.

  +
"!?"
The second this becomes evident, Zurvick feels a dull pain in his gut, he looks down and sees an eight inch knife stabbed deeply into his abdomen. His eyes shift from his wound and back to the eyes of Jeffrey, who sighs when he says,

  +
"You are saying that we can go through!?" Aria asks.
"There's only one problem, You are not my King."

  +
She and Luke both smile as though they had just won a great prize in an arcade game.
Zurvick drops to his knees and blood begins to puddle below him, by looking at how much red fluid is flowing from him one can't help but think that his is a fatal wound. Ash is taken aback by this, so much so that there was a delayed effect in her comprehension speed; now that she sees his face growing paler and paler, she is thrown into a blind rage.

  +
But their celebration is cut short by Pontius saying, "But... I must ask you, are you willing to leave the rest of them behind?"
She turns to Jeffrey and glares at him with her bright crimson eyes, the anger that brews in her frown is more then evident when she rushes him for an attack. Jeffrey sidesteps and easily avoids her wild punch, he grabs her arm and brutally kicks her in the stomach, the air flies out of her lungs and her whole body becomes limp when she falls face first on the ground, completely unable to move.

  +
Luke and Aria glare at him in confusion as he continues to speak.
"Easy there little lady, I don't have orders to kill you... Granted, you'll probably end up dying in this Ballroom anyway, two of my men set up a fuse bomb that will systematically destroy this entire castle with a different explosion every five minutes." Jeffrey looks at his watch and says, "The next one is going to happen way before you get a chance to escape... That's too bad.."

  +
"You are approved, but of course they are not. Your approval shall depend on whether you wish to leave them behind or not. So which will you choose?"
He turns his back to the two and ganders out of the massive hole in the wall that Dice made, there he sees Dice chasing after Noah and Rain. He releases a sigh of exasperation and says, "I guess I'd better help him, it sure looks like he'll need it."

  +
They stay silent for a moment and then Luke frowns and shouts, "Fuck that!!!"
Without paying Ash or Zurvick any more mind than they are worth, he jumps out of the hole and disappears out of sight. This is the way the Ten Knights of La'Juune work, once the job is complete then it is on to the next one.

  +
Aria looks at this new side of Luke that she has never seen before and smiles, she readily agrees with his statement by explaining to Pontius why they have come to this conclusion.
Ash is desperately trying to breath as she attempts to stand, she shakily reaches her feet and moves to tend to Zurvick, but to her surprise he is already standing there with a broken smile on his face.

  +
"Is that a joke? We say we are fighting for our friends and then all the sudden you ask if we will leave them behind?"
"We gotta escape Zurvick, we gotta get you some help." she says with a begging tone in her voice.

  +
She lifts her sword and points it at him.
Blood falls from his tilted lips when he replies, "No... You have to escape."

  +
"I accept the fact that you'll let me pass, but I'm taking all of them with me!!"
"Huh? What are you talking about? Can't you see that this whole damn building is on fire!?"

  +
"Very well then... all of you shall be crucified for your ill intentions."
Zurvick stumbles when he walks toward her. "That's exactly why you are the one that needs to leave."

  +
Phoenix takes a step back and frowns as if he is thinking of a way that he can kill Pontius himself, but for now he can only hope that Aria and Luke can hold him off until then.
Ash becomes suspicious. "Why do I have a bad feeling about this..?"

  +
Pontius takes a step forward and begins to walk toward them with no worry.
Zurvick grabs her shoulders and walks her to the ledge of the hole that Dice created, "I need to help them..."

  +
Aria nudges on Luke's shoulder and says, "After this battle is over, I want you to act tough like this more often..." She turns to him and smiles, "If you are always this cool... I may just end up falling for you.”
"N-No that's ridiculous! You are injured and you can barely move! What kind of help do you think you can accomplish!? You may even need it more then they do!"

  +
Luke's face turns bright red and he mumbles in embarrassment because he has no clue what to say back to that.
He smiles and pushes her out of the hole in the wall, it's only about ten feet to the ground but she definitely felt in when she landed square on her back. She quickly rises to her feet and glares at him with desperate eyes.

  +
After a moment of thinking over what she just said, he shakes off the fuzzy feeling of her words and reveals a confident smile.
Zurvick salutes her and says, "I'll be damned if I didn't do anything."

  +
"Okay I will... we'll have to win first though."
He turns and gets ready to walk into the blaze; watching the back that she adores so much become smaller with each one of his steps leading away from her, she becomes more and more distraught. She knows that if he goes into the burning Ballroom, there is no way he'd survive. He has an eight inch dagger sticking into his stomach and is losing incredible amounts of blood, that along with the strange man's warning that there will be another explosion any moment pretty much signifies exactly what will happen.

  +
"Right!"
She puts every last bit of her strength in her voice box when she yells, "DON'T DO IT!!! YOU'LL DIE YOU IDIOT!!!"

  +
As though that was a cue for an attack, the two rush toward Pontius with a battle roar.
Zurvick keeps walking as he replies, "You know me well enough to know that I'm extremely lucky Captain Ash... There's no way I'll die."

  +
Luke points his hand out and a white light comes shooting forward.
And with that, the injured and bleeding Zurvick waves her goodbye and vanishes in the bright light of the fire.

  +
The beam rushes at Pilate but he easily avoids by jumping up and off to the side, his movements continue to be as limber as ever despite the grievous injuries he suffered.
Ash is devastated, "He left me..." she says to herself as tears begin to fall from her eyes, "That idiot really left me..." She bites her lip and frowns, "I'm not letting this happen!"

  +
But Aria is standing right where he is going to land, stuck in the air, he cannot avoid whatever is about to happen.
She runs to the ten foot wall below the hole and begins to climb, with all her might she is going to give chase to him. But these efforts are fruitless, before she can even get half way up the wall it is obliterated.

  +
Aria picks up a rock and throws it up at him.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!

  +
Pontius understands that she has some kind of ability that causes explosions so he figured it'd be wise to dodge the rock at all costs; he twists his body and the rock flies right past him.
The second explosion rips through the area where Zurvick just was and knocks her more than twenty feet back, she slams into the manor lawn and her body makes a loud thud.

  +
Aria smiles and the rock blows up right behind him, causing him to shoot toward the ground, and where he is falling, her huge long-sword awaits to skewer him.
For the most part she is unscathed, just a few scratches around her arms can be seen and one would say she is extremely lucky that she didn't lose a limb in that blast. She shakily lifts her upper body up and opens her dazed eyes. The only thing she can see is orange and red blurs and she smells through her nose a bitter smoke; it takes her a few moments to recover from this out of body experience she is having and when she does, one of the first thoughts in her head is how badly she would like to have that feeling back.

  +
Pontius once again holds out his index finger, and the tip of it collides with the tip of Aria's sword.
The reason for this is the horrifying scene that stands before her, the area that Zurvick just walked through is now non existent, only rubble and flames remain. The Ballroom is just about utterly demolished and the rest of the castle begins to deteriorate as well. Not much of anything is left of the Ballroom and there is no doubt that everyone who hadn't escaped yet is dead, and that includes the one person she cares about most in the world.

  +
Surely his hand will be cut off.
Her body starts to shake wildly and her breathing becomes very spotty. "N-N-No... This isn't happening right?"

  +
However, this results in his miraculous display of acrobatics.
As if to add insult to injury, dozens of smaller blast suddenly wrap around the circled tip of the castle and blow their way down until the seven hundred year old structure is nothing more than dust.

  +
He is balancing atop the sharp blade with one finger.
Ash throws her hands on her face as she looks at the destruction in horror. "This isn't happening..."

  +
While doing so he explains, "Other than my power of 'Judgment', I have no abilities of my own, so in order to make up for such a thing I have undergone thousands of years of physical training. So much so that no one would be able to defeat me in hand to hand combat."
All of the smiles and happy moments between her and Zurvick flash through her head like a old movie and eventually turn to despair when she thinks about that smile of his going to be gone forever.

  +
He flips over the sword and kicks her in the back, making her fall face first into the ground.
She can't do anything but deny that this ever happened and scream at the top of her lungs,

  +
"Aria!" shouts Luke as he runs to her aid.
"ZURVICK!!!!"

  +
He helps her up and makes sure she is okay when Pilate continues to speak.

  +
"Knowing that, what do you think I'm going to do to thwart your efforts?"

  +
He holds his hand out, taking a stance that shows he is prepared to fight using just his body.
----------------------------

  +
"That's right, all I need to do is stay close to you, and your deaths will be imminent."

  +
Luke frowns and sends another light beam at him, Pontius dodges it and does a couple back hand somersaults to get away.

  +
Upon regaining his footing he looks up and finds that they are running away from his range.
Dice is running after Noah and Rain who are entering a horse drawn carriage that was supposed to be guarded by Trojan soldiers. Those soldiers are now all dead and their bodies are scattered all over the area, a large battalion of them has been slaughtered within the time frame of the Knight's assault only an hour earlier. But that is not the most amazing thing about it, it's the fact that only ten people are the ones that handed all of those men their deaths.

  +
He stands and says, "Oh that's right I forgot... I guess I have one more trick up my sleeve."
In the carriage holding the reins is one of those ten, Elise Whittier is covered in blood and is looking annoyed about how long it is going to take for her to wash it all out of her hair. Once Rain and Noah enter she says, "Sweet now we can get out of here! I'm dying to take a shower.. Ooooaah she's cute! This is gonna be a good ride after all."

  +
He holds his hand out as if presenting someone’s arrival and then a bony hand comes from the ground and grabs Luke's ankle.
Rain recognizes her from the dress shop and mutters in surprise, "Y-You?.. Wha?"

  +
Not noticing what had just happened, Aria continues to run and unintentionally leaves Luke behind.
"Keep your pants on and drive." Noah replies.

  +
"What an idiot right Luke? Why would he be stupid enough to tell us exactly what his plan is on fighting us?"
Elise sticks her tongue out at him and asks, "Where to boss?"

  +
When no reply comes, Aria laughs a little.
Noah glares at Rain and then out to the burning city of Tronoble, he slightly smiles and blows a sharp breath of air out of his nose. "To La'Juune."

  +
"Oh come on, you actually don't have to act cool all the time Lu---"
"Roger that!"

  +
She happened to glance over to her side and sees that Luke is not there.
Dice is gaining on the carriage, each step of his that lands on the ground carries so much hate mixed with determination that it almost sends shock waves into the ground as though it was an earthquake.

  +
"Luke?"
"I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!!!"

  +
She stops in her tracks and turns around, what she sees is something that makes her face turn blue.
Noah stares at his abnormality with a straight and unworried face, he holds out his hand and simply snaps his finger. With that, Dice is surrounded by the weapons of Jeffrey, London and Allia.

  +
Luke is standing there with two skeletal Roman soldiers holding on to him.
The carriage begins to move and Dice's rage becomes seemingly unstoppable, but the black and evil aura surrounding him doesn't seem to faze the three. Without a hint of nervousness, Allia points her bow and arrow at him, Jeffrey has another dagger pressed against his back, and London has a long fencing sword pressed against his neck.

  +
But that is not what has gotten her so frightened, they aren't holding him with their bony hands, but rather their rusty steel swords that are impaling his gut and his chest.
Rain stares at the evil aura around Dice and has a different reaction to it than the others. "That power..? He was telling the truth?"

  +
Aria can't help but shout his name in horror,
Through the window Noah speaks to the three, "I don't think it'd be too wise to waste your energy on that abomination, it's already far too late for him."

  +
"LUKE!!!!!"
London pushes up his glasses and asks, "So what do you want us to do?"

  +

"Just keep him here for a little, we'll be out of the city soon. I don't want that pest to follow me."

Rain is sitting in the moving carriage gritting her teeth, just by looking at how these knights had damn near killed off an entire city, she feels that there is no way Dice will win with his mind in such an out of control state. In a normal circumstance like this, one would worry about the other comrade's well being but in this case, Rain is only thinking about how she can somehow benefit from this situation.

  +
-----------------------
She throws her head out of the carriage window and shouts, "Dice! You have to go back to our regiment! We can still win this battle if you tell them to invade!" With an unwearied look on his face, Noah leans his back into the leather carriage seat as she continues, "There are only ten La'Juutians who caused all this, we can defeat them by shear numbers when we attack."

Dice looks surprised and asks, "La'Juune? They are the ones who did all this?"

Rain is becoming further and further away and her voice gets fainter. "There is a spy that knows of everything in the higher ups of Eiyalazo! Find that spy and kill him! Once you're done..."

  +
By now she is so far the carriage she is riding in can barely be seen, but her voice rings loud and clear in Dice's ears when she finishes with,

  +
In the black cloud is Niera, Cyrus and Xavier, all of them are looking confusedly at Rage, who looks as though he was just hit with something hard.
  +
It wasn't an attack or anything that got him rattled, but the sight of seeing Luke impaled by the two bone soldiers.

  +
Rage can see outside his cloud whereas to the others it is simply a black wall, he has been watching their battle in great interest while the rest have been forced to use their imagination.
"COME FIND ME!!!"

  +
(This is bad!) he thinks to himself.
Dice watches her drift out of sight, she has been taken from under his nose against her will and there was nothing he could do except watch. He flares his nose and frowns when he glares at the three La'Juutian Knights. "I'm coming back to kill you all."

  +
But he knows that if he goes out to help it would leave the rest of them defenseless against more of those creatures. Not to mention if he were to attack Pontius himself it wouldn't do any good either.
The black smoke envelopes his body and blows outward, slightly knocking the three back allowing him to get some room so he can escape.

  +
A man such as Rage would never pass the test that would allow him to inflict any damage.
Dice begins to run with all his might, but this time it is in the opposite direction of the person he wants to be with the most at this moment. With his head down he begins to shout obscenities, "Damn it all! Damn it all!!" he then lifts his head up and screams at the sky with all his might, "DAMN IT ALL!!!!!!!!!"

  +
(Damn it! No wonder why none of the 7 Demons of Hell just waited for us here... If they did they would easily be slain by the Gatekeeper.)

  +
This is very true, nothing that belongs to Hell would ever be able to defeat Pontius, this truly makes him one of the most frightening beings to come across.

  +
It would seem that the only ones capable of defeating him are Aria and Luke, two normal humans.
-----------------------------

  +

  +
-------------------------

Allia has been raining down fire on just about everyone she saw in the town until she made her way back to the now destroyed castle and ran into Dice, so she isn't well informed as to what is going on so she asks, "Should we really just let him go? If he gets that regiment to attack us I don't like our chances of winning."

London pushes up his glasses and smoothly says, "Don't worry about that."

  +
Then Jeffrey lets out a tired sigh of exasperation, "That regiment is long gone by now."

  +
"VANISH!!" Phoenix shouts, and the two bone soldiers instantly turn to dust.

  +
He immediately rushes to Luke, after dropping her sword Aria runs in to help as well.

  +
Luke coughs up blood and falls to the ground.

  +
"S-Shit..." he quietly says to himself as he rolls onto his side.
-------------------------------

  +
Aria reaches him and assesses the damage done, she turns pale at the sight. The two wounds are placed perfectly over vital points of his body, one in the lung and the other in his liver.

  +
These two injuries combined make it so there isn't much hope in him surviving.

  +
Frantic and scared, Aria desperately tries to figure out something that she can do but it's no good, she's only good for causing explosions.
On the outskirts of Tronoble lies the thousands of men that belong to Rain's regiment, Dice's division is stationed there as well and they are all watching the city burn in awe. The soldiers all ask questions about this occurrence but there is one man who is not surprised about this in the least, this man with two different colored eyes is the second in command, his name is Heinrich Zimmer.

  +
Phoenix hisses in anger, there isn't anything he can do either because he no longer has the ability to heal people, it's not like he personally wanted to trade it for the powers he has now, it's just that the ability he had was taken back by God so he can fight with his words during the battle of Armageddon.
He is so calmly watching from afar because he has known about the looming destruction of Tronoble for a while now, he is Noah's spy from La'Juune.

  +
Showing no mercy, Pontius leaps forward and kicks Phoenix square in the face, it sends him flying and now the only one left to attack is Aria who's pretty much a sitting duck in her position alongside Luke.
One of the soldiers wearily walks to Heinrich and asks, "What should we do?"

  +
But before Pontius can reach his target, he is once again interrupted by someone, but not just one this time, it's two.
Heinrich doesn't turn his way and answers, "We retreat."

  +
Sora has sliced his side with her blade and Achilles stabs him in the ribs with Aria's dropped long-sword.
"What? But Rain and Prince Dice are in that town!"

  +
Now kept from attacking his original target, he switches his attention to them.
Heinrich stands from a sitting position on top of a large rock and coldly states, "Can't you see that they are most likely dead? It's obvious that the city was attacked by La'Juune, if we head in there carelessly without a plan there's a high possibility that we will lose."

  +
With his right foot he kicks Sora in the stomach and sends her flying as well.
The man looks troubled and says, "But Rain told us to attack the city if she isn't back by 10 o'clock."

  +
The strength in this standing kick was incredible, it only goes to show how much a few thousand years worth of training can do to the body. It would be a miracle if a couple of Sora's ribs weren't broken.
Remaining calm, Heinrich rebukes, "Yeah but she didn't plan on the city being sacked by an enemy army before that time. As far as I'm concerned this whole mission was a lost cause, and as the new Captain of this regiment my orders are for us to retreat."

  +
After shooing the girl away like an insect he pulls out a dagger from his waist and lunges at Achille.
The soldier shifts his eyes away for a moment and then back. "Yes sir."

  +
Being old, tattered and weak, Achille used his last bit of strength to plunge the sword into Pilate's body, so avoiding the dagger is an impossible task.
With his new command due to Rain's absence, the entirety of the Eiyalazonian army that are present all leave the burning city and head back home.

  +
He smiles and then...
Heinrich can't help but smile at how great things have turned out for La'Juune, with this, the approaching La'Juutian army can easily occupy Tronoble with no conflict. This has been a successful mission, everything has gone exactly the way Noah had predicted it would go, La'Juune now holds the reins to this bloody world war.

  +
Thunk!!

  +
The dagger slams into his throat and the tip of the blade protrudes out of the back of his neck.

  +
However, this horrible impact doesn't affect his grip on Aria’s longsword.
--------------------------

  +
In fact, Achille uses his free left hand to grab the left arm of Pontius, this was a trap, and the Gatekeeper fell right into it.

  +
The smile still remains on his face, leaving Pontius to wonder just what in the world he's smiling about when from below him a white light starts shining.

  +
Luke is grabbing his leg, this and the sword does not allow him to take even a step closer to Aria.
"What do you intend to do to me?" Rain asks and breaks the awkward silence in the cabin of the carriage.

  +
"I can tell by the look on your faces that I'm a goner..." Luke said with a strained blood stained smile.
Noah simply answers, "I don't quite know yet."

  +
"W-Wait... what are you guys doing?" asks Aria, who's in full on panic mode after seeing the man who raised her just get stabbed in the throat.
Rain clicks her tongue and begins to pound him with questions. "How do you know so much about the powers of my hand?"

  +
In a gargled tone Achille tries to speak, "I now see what I've been lacking all this time... I can now see what's truly important... Make sure to keep an eye on that idiot brother of yours Aria..."
Noah is holding her right hand and hasn't let it go since they were dancing. "I know a lot of things."

  +
With blood flooding out of the corners of his mouth, he smiles at her in a way only a father can smile to his daughter.
This angers her and she shouts, "God damn it would you just give me an explanation already! How can you suppress the powers that I now have!"

  +
He is able to inflict damage on Pontius because after all this time he finally realizes that he has been going at his dream all wrong. The selfish thoughts he once had of returning to Earth and back to the arms of his widowed wife should never have been there; the important things in life he so selfishly sought were in the form of two little twins he happened to come across one day trying to steal his wallet.
Noah glares at her and replies, "You just said it yourself... God."

  +
It only took him all of these years to realize that everything he's done should have been solely for their sake, and now, here is his chance to right the wrong he's done to them.
"God?"

  +
Now is the chance to truly show how much he loves them.
"That's right, I am a person who takes in knowledge very well, before the war started there was a certain priest who preached to me the word of God. You told me earlier that you know nothing of religion correct?"

  +
By giving his life for them, he will come to understand the true feeling of love.
Rain huffs air out of her nose and looks out of the window. "People rely on religion just like a fairy tale is used for children who are afraid of the dark."

  +
This was actually the most important thing in life he wanted to find, and at this very moment, he's finally found it.
Noah mockingly laughs and replies, "It seems that your lack of this knowledge will be the end of you."

  +
She begins to shake and her voice struggles to leave the back of her dried throat, "W-Wait! Wait wait wait! What are you talking about!?"
"That's ridiculous."

  +
A faint voice comes from where her feet are, "Speaking of brothers... promise me that you'll take care of Xavier. I know he's brash and immature, but he's going to be the King one day so he must live on."
"Is it now? Who do you think bestowed you with those powers of yours? Have you not realized that the one who did now controls your soul? You are damned forever Rain." he squeezes her hand and looks her in the eye before finishing, "That is... Unless I do something about it."

  +
Luke finds the strength to smile, even as the light fades from his eyes.
Rain doesn't know what to say about this, it takes her a few moments to ask, "And how are you going to do that?"

  +
“And one more thing, tell him my last words to him are... 'Grow the fuck up'."
"That priest of mine was not an ordinary priest... Before he was kidnapped along with the rest he revealed his deepest secret to me, and soon after, with the touch of his hand... I was blessed. Though I am not benevolent to say the least, I have still been given a gift. I guess you can say that I hold the opposite kind of power that you do. I was born into this world specifically to stop wretched people like you, so I will begin to negate your powers and in due process I will find the whereabouts of my loved ones and put an end to this war."

  +
"W-Wait..."
Rain turns her head and tries to ignore his statement, but his words ring in her mind; in order to contrast these thoughts she uses her instincts as a Battle Strategist and conjures up the many different ways she can get out of this.

  +
The only thing that can come out of her mouth is the word wait.
That's when it dawns on her, a perfect plan.

  +
All of this has happened so fast that it's like she is begging for things to slow down so she can process just what exactly is going on.
She smiles and softly says, "Not if I kill you first."

  +
Struggling to breath, Luke says, "You need to go Aria."
Noah hears this and smiles as well, these are two bitter enemies sharing a carriage for a long ride, and the atmosphere between the two shows it as plain as day.

  +
The light grows larger and the sense of urgency becomes more clear as Pontius begins to really try to get away.

  +
Aria stands stiff as she mutters, "N-No..."

  +
"You have to run, otherwise you'll get caught up in this..."
---------------------------

  +
"N-No..."

  +
"Please Aria... don’t keep me from being the cool guy now… let me be the kind of guy you could have fallen for."

  +
Aria starts to cry hysterically as her shaky legs begin to rise into a stand, she takes a slow step back and looks at him with eyes full of sorrow.
Dice is running to where his comrades are supposed to be, and when he reaches the spot he finds that they are long gone. Not knowing which direction they went off to he becomes confused, and that confusion turns to anger when he shouts at the pentagram on his hand,

  +
Luke needs her to get away as fast as she can, so he uses the final bit of air in his punctured lungs to shout,

  +
"RUN, ARIA!!!!"
"How did you let this happen!!? How did you let her be taken from me!?"

  +
Aria turns and sprints away, leaving a trail of tears in her wake.
The snake's voice takes a few moments to appear and then it rings in his head. "This is all in due process my fair Prince."

  +
Her mind is blank as she moves so fast that the feeling in her legs is no longer there, she feels more like she’s floating atop the ground as she gets further and further away.
"How!? I don't see how her being kidnapped will make her fall in love with me!"

  +
She shuts her eyes and grits her teeth when she shouts from within her heart...
"You need to open your eyes... This is the perfect opportunity to show her how devoted you are... She told you to find the spy and kill him correct?"

  +
(PAPAAAAA!!!!)
Dice sits on the ground, it would seem that he is exhausted from all of the effort he has put into the night, he lays on his back and points his hand to the air.

  +
The emotion of it all expands from her chest and then out of her mouth,
"That's right."

  +
"LUUUUUKKKE!!!!"
"Who do you think that spy is?"

  +
A blinding white light begins to glow from behind her and her shadow can be seen in front of her.
"How the fuck am I supposed to know that!?"

  +
Chasing it with all her might like it stole something from her, everything turns an eerie quiet for a split second, and then...
The presence of the snake becomes more and more heavy with each passing second. "That is what you have me for... I can tell you."

  +
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!!!!!!
Dice becomes irritated and demands, "Then tell me."

  +
The shock wave from the explosion knocks her to the ground and she slides on the soil until she comes to a grinding halt; she turns on her back to see what happened and finds the most beautiful aftermath of a blast she has ever seen.
"Who do you think has the power to make all of today's events possible?"

  +
The white and gold light has a plume similar to a miniature atomic bomb, a big mushroom shape with a circled ring surrounding its neck.
"......"

  +
Aria lies there in silence as she watches the light slowly dim until it's no longer there.

  +
As an explosion enthusiast she can honestly say she has never seen anything like it before.
"Since you have to assume that it was La'Juune who commenced the attack on that city, you must know that the spy who is able to work with the elites of that country must have an immense pull amongst the soldiers of Eiyalazo."

  +
She shifts her eyes toward the spot where Pontius, Luke, and the man she called Papa were once intertwined with each other.
"I just don't see who can do something like that..." Dice says while clinching his fists in wonder.

  +
There's nothing.
The snake's voice reverberates wildly as it begins to inquire, "Let me ask you something... Didn't your parents oppose you coming along with Rain on this mission?"

  +
Only the black and charred ground remain.
"Of course they were hesitant at first, but I convinced them that it was time to let me out on the battlefield."

  +
It is without a doubt the evidence of the deaths of those three, the blast was so powerful that nothing remains.
"Hmmm, If I'm not mistaken... They had somewhat of a grudge against Rain's father right?"

  +
In somewhat of an entranced state, Aria raises her hand to the sky and says,
Dice's face moves as if he is starting to realize something, "Now that you mention it... They disgraced her father ten years ago after the Battle of La'Juune in which Troy and Eiyalazo lost embarrassingly to General Napoleon."

  +
"What a grand finale, Luke..."

  +
Tears fall from her eyes and she sniffles through her nose when she finishes.
"Then do you think that they still hold some of that animosity towards Rain? Wouldn't it make sense that if they did, they would do anything to sabotage her efforts in reinstating the Von Ronheim name? Wouldn't that make them look bad and embarrass them if honor was to be once again instilled in that name?"

  +
“You really are so damn cool.”
Dice sits up and his eyes widen. "You don't think that---"

The snake's voice interrupts, "That's right... There is only one type of person that would betray her with such trivial reasoning..."

  +
"It can't be..."

  +
"Are you okay?" asked Phoenix while covering both himself and Sora with his flame cloth.

  +
"...Yes..." Sora replies as she holds her ribs that are throbbing in pain.
"It makes sense doesn't it? The spies.... The true betrayers are..."

  +
The two of them gander at the damage done and can only widen their eyes in amazement, two humans defeated such a fearsome Gatekeeper. Though, unfortunately, they lost their lives in the process.
Dice stands to his feet and frowns, "The King and Queen of Eiyalazo... My parents."

  +
Phoenix slams his fist into a nearby stone and frowns.
"It couldn't be anyone else... Now is your chance to show her how much love your bear towards her... What will you do my fair Prince?"

  +
He is angered at himself for not finding a way to defeat Pontius himself, he is very mad at the fact he wasn't able to exact revenge with his own hands.
Dice grits his teeth and puts all of his strength in his clinched fists.

  +
But he is even more angered at the fact he let someone he cared about die because of it.
"I have no choice... I must kill my parents."

  +
"... Aria..." Sora says as she begins to walk toward her friend.
  +
  +
Aria is standing at the point of the explosion in the charred soil, nothing is left of the three men, not even a memento; that is, until she kicks around the dirt a little and finds a piece of something shiny. She leans over and picks it up, but quickly drops it when the heat of it burns her hand.
  +
Looking down on it she sees that it is a little shard of her once huge long-sword.

  +
It is nothing close to a weapon now but it is at least something to remember Achille and Luke by, she picks it up again, not caring about the heat and clenches her fingers around it.

  +
"Heyyyy did you guys win!?" shouts Xavier.
--------------------------

  +
He and the rest are running toward them, excluding Rage, who is slowly walking behind them.

  +
Phoenix clicks his tongue and looks away, "I guess you can say that..."

  +
"That's good right!? Now we can pass through the Gate!" Xavier exclaims.
The sun has almost completely risen over the destroyed city of Tronoble and the majority of people are either dead or they evacuated the town.

  +
Phoenix, Aria and Sora all stay silent as Xavier keeps speaking.
But there is a certain girl that is searching frantically through rubble.

  +
"This is great! I feel like I'm one step closer to home! Right Luke!?"
Ash Alworth.

  +
Being used to having his little brother by his side to smile embarrassingly and agree with him, he speaks as if he's been there the whole time.
She is moving away the brick and stone of the castle with the remaining of her sleep deprived strength, trying to find one person, Zurvick Niveusvenia, the King of Troy.

  +
Phoenix and Aria's shoulders jump as they watch Xavier look around the area confusedly once he doesn't hear a reply.

  +
"Where's Luke?"
But sadly her search is of no avail, all she finds are burnt and crisped bodies of the former nobles who died in the blast the night before. The destruction is so bad that she hasn't even found a hint of life in the many piles of broken castle; the dress that she wore so beautifully the night before is torn and stained and her hands are bruised and bloody. This shows the belief she has in Zurvick's survival, but the longer she searches she understands that the possibilities of his survival are close to zero, there are no signs of life around and La'Juutian soldiers surrounding the area begin to grow by the hundreds.

  +
The priest and the thief look at each other, their eyes asking which one of them wanted to explain what happened when from behind they hear a voice saying,
This is it, the end of her search.

  +
"He's dead."
'It's all over...' she thinks to herself as she lets her tired body finally take a break.

  +
Before either of them could say it, the harsh words come from the mouth of a cold Rage as he walks through the group and towards the Gate.
She begins to weep wildly and tears fall rapidly from her tired eyes and slide off her cheeks like flowing river. It has finally hit her that he really is gone, the only man this young Captain has ever loved has now ceased to exist. It would seem that all of the energy she put in crying has gotten to her both physically and mentally drained; after hours of back breaking work, her frail body finally succumbs to exhaustion.

  +
Phoenix scowls at him but it doesn't affect Rage one bit as he continues his walk.

  +
"W-Wha?" Xavier mutters.
Her crying stops and her body falls limp onto the manor lawn, sadly for her, she will eventually have to wake up once more to bear the same pain of her loss.

  +
The questioning voices don't only come from him, Niera and Cyrus have no clue what's going on either.

  +
To ease the sting from the sharp words of Rage that happened to be oh so reminiscent of the time when Damien told the two Princes that their father had died; Phoenix walks to him and puts his hand on his shoulders.

  +
"He died protecting all of us, he is a true hero."
--------------------------

  +
"Huh? What kind of sick joke is this?" he inquires.

  +
Phoenix takes his hand off his shoulder and shifts his eyes away once again as Xavier continues to deny it.

  +
"Come on Phoenix, that wasn't funny at all."
The next day the afternoon sun shines over the castle that resides in the Capital city of Troy.

  +
He takes a step back and his eyes start to move from side to side in a frantic motion.
Queen Lelaine walks down the hallway and reaches the bathroom door. Once inside that unnecessarily large room with a pool sized bath she takes off her clothes and gets ready to enter, the reason why she is bathing herself so late in the day is because she had stayed up late the night before and slept in the morning after.

  +
"Lies!! This is a damn lie!"
Walking past the expensive looking vases and other decorative items, she finally reaches the warm water that fills the bath and takes a step in; she has been overly stressed the last few weeks so the soothing aroma of the shampoos and soaps calm her mind.

  +
They still don't say anything and Xavier really begins to feel with certainty that he is telling the truth; the thing is, he just doesn't want to believe it.
She sinks in the water and thinks to herself, 'Here comes another tiresome day...'

  +
"Liar! What kind of a priest would lie to a Prince so blatantly!?!? When we get back I'll have your head for such a thing! I wi---"
With these thoughts of weariness and self pity running through her head she becomes completely disinterested at how her life is going. That is, until she hears an unusual knock on the bathroom door, she can tell it isn't one of her maids knocking to see is she needs any kind of assistance simply by the force of the knock.

  +
SLAP!!!
She lifts her head out of the bath water and asks, "Who is it?"

  +
Xavier's face is hit hard by the open palm of Aria.
A familiar voice comes from behind the door.

  +
She has tears running from her eyes when she says, "Before he died I made two promises to Luke... And one of them was to tell you his last words to you."
"It's Sturgess."

  +
Shocked and stiff, Xavier can't speak so he softly groans.
"What do you want?" she replies in haste so he can leave her alone.

  +
"..?"
He pauses for a few seconds and says, "I have terrible news to report to you."

  +
Aria grabs his collar and shouts point blank in his face, "His last words to you were grow the fuck up!!'"
Lelain raises her eyebrow, "Is it so bad that you have to tell me while I'm bathing?"

  +
This may seem cruel to say to someone who had just lost his brother, but that attitude of his is exactly what Luke’s dying wish was to see come to an end; so no matter how rough it is, how rough she has to be with him from now on, Aria is going to make him change no matter what.
"Unfortunately... It is. I hate to come to you with such bad timing but I'd assume this is something you'd want to hear immediately."

  +
Her mind is set. To show Luke her thanks, she will do whatever it takes to fulfill that promise she made to him.
"Then spill it already."

  +
Xavier will become a person Luke would be proud of with her help.
The pause between Sturgess' words are far longer than before and this makes Lelaine become quite anxious.

  +
Rage is close to the Gate when he hears a voice come from behind him saying, "Hold on a second! What about the others? Shouldn't we wait for them to arrive?"
After what seems like a few hours Sturgess finally speaks, "The King is dead..."

  +
The voice comes from Cyrus, who is standing in front of a silent and distraught Niera.
Lelaine grows silent and remains that way for quite some time until she asks with not much concern in her voice, "Really?"

  +
"Absolutely not, we must leave immediately." Rage bluntly replies.
Sturgess replies in a professional manner, "Yes... From what our reports say, King Zurvick was on his way back to our Capital when he stopped in Tronoble, while he was there the La'Juutian army attacked the city and defeated all its military occupants. The city held a Ball last night for the King's arrival, but the Ball was cut short by more than a few massive explosions, King Zurvick was caught in one of those blasts and as result, he was killed."

  +
"But! Princess Niera hasn't seen her sister in months, she doesn't even know if she is safe or not! Can't we wait for them to get here so we can all pass to the other side together?"
Lelaine remains silent and just glares at a well done painting in the bathroom as if she is in a trance when Sturgess continues,

  +
After finding out that Luke had died, a soft spot in Cyrus' heart has been squeezed, if something were to happen to Daey, Niera would probably break down.
"A few soldiers found a charred body that held the King's flask, they are sending it here to the Capital for burial."

  +
So he wants to make sure that Daey is alright before moving on to the second level of Purgatory.
When no reaction comes from this, Sturgess takes a deep breath and begins to smile, but this smile of his is broken by the sound of pottery smashing against the bathroom door he leans on. He takes a few steps back and the sound of heavy and sharp objects breaking becomes more frequent.

  +
He assumes that Aria would really want to see Strauphius as well.
"I'm sorry Queen Lelaine, but you must calm down and stay rational."

  +
But this plea falls on deaf ears when Rage bluntly responds with a resounding,
Another pot was thrown in his direction and shattered against the wall.

  +
"No."
"Rationality!? Bullshit!!!"

  +
Cyrus' shoulders drop.
With the sound coming from the inside of the bathroom one can't help but think of the destruction occurring inside, Sturggess tries to suppress a laugh and realizes that it would be best if he just walked away. But not before he leaves her with some final words, "I'm sorry for your loss."

  +
Assuming that he wants an explanation, Rage speaks, "I've come to the realization that the first Gate is the only Gate where all Demons of Hell know the location. Because of the strength of the Gatekeeper they didn't decide to simply wait for our arrival. If they sense that the Gatekeeper has been defeated, they could come here while we wait for the others to arrive. If that happens, then there is no guarantee that another one of you won't die. And I'm not willing to take that risk, so let's go."
Another vase is thrown into the door due to Lelaine's temper tantrum, she is searching for something to destroy when she shouts, "This is bullshit!!! FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!"

  +
Though he can’t be for sure, he’s assumed correctly. The Hierarchy knows the location of this Gate because it is the only one that remains stationary, all of the rest will change periodically in time.
She grabs a bath stool and chucks it into a window, completely shattering it. Now out of things to break, she herself begins to breakdown, she falls on her knees and then lays on her side in a half angled fetal position.

  +
It's not as though they can't find their way to the other Gates, they do have so much power over Purgatory after all, they can commute straight from Hell to any random part of each of the 5 Levels if they wanted to. It's just that the process of finding the other Gates is no different from how someone like Rage would go about it; they can get an idea of where it is but it doesn't mean it's going to be easy, or find it in a time frame that's relatively reasonable.
"No...... No..... This is.... False information or something, he has to come back."

  +
That being said, they know of this location on the first level already, if they find out that Pontius has been defeated they could literally appear here out of nowhere in a split second.
Lelaine starts to shake uncontrollably and her wet body slides on the smooth tile floor, she remains like this for minutes and all of the moments between her and Zurvick pass through her head much like Ash's did, but Lelaine's is different. She once again remembers the day they met when they were children, the day they got married, the day when Trojia was born, but what hits her hardest is the day when Zurvick left as part of the lowest rank of the military after their daughter disappeared.

  +
That's more than enough of a reason to leave the others behind and hope that Damien and the others don't catch on to the Gatekeeper's demise before the rest arrive.
She remembers the last time she was held in his arms and the look on his face when he said, "Don't look so worried, there is no way I'm not coming back."

  +
The rest of the group slowly follow and Rage turns away from them, he truly isn't happy at the way things have turned out. This includes both Luke dying, and the true identity of Phoenix.
She put her head into his chest and replied, "You never break your promises... So promise me."

Zurvick lifted her head and looked at her square in the eye, with a sincere smile he said, "I promise I'll come back for you."
+
"Tch..." he hisses, and then says to himself, "Ubica... I can only hope that things have gone smoother for you."
  +

With the thought of that day running through her head she desperately clings for hope and tries to talk herself out of the facts by saying,

  +
--------------------
"He's not dead..."

  +
  +
The next day, Ubica and his group are walking up the trail that leads to the Gate, after a few minutes they finally reach their month long destination. A huge sigh of relief can be heard from the group, but a serious aura quickly sucks up the air when they think that they will most likely be fighting the Gatekeeper.

  +
Scoping the area they see all the crucified bodies, some of the crosses are still intact and some are broken and the bones that were once nailed on them are scattered all over the place. There are signs of numerous explosions that happened so it becomes quite obvious that a serious battle has already taken place.
----------------------

  +
"Do you think it was Rage and the others?" asks Napoleon.

  +
"Yeah..." Ubica answers, "But there is no sign that Rage fought in this one though, I’d be able to sense the remnants of his power otherwise."

  +
"If Rage wasn't the one fighting then who was it?"
Sturgess walks down the hallway with a huge grin on his face, his mission to dispose of Zurvick has finally been accomplished. Though this wasn't his doing, his death still brings all of the same benefits.

  +
"I don't know... I have a funny feeling about this place."
At the corner of the hallway sits a set of stairs, he readies to walk down them when he sees the faces of his comrades Anders, and Cardinal Luudnt.

  +
Napoleon's eyebrow twitches. "Is it important?"
"So how did it go?" asked Anders.

  +
Ubica shuts his eyes and rubs his temple. "No not really... it's just this smell, it's very distinct... it smells like---"
Luudnt looks at him as if asking the same question, Sturgess chuckles a little bit and answers the two, "Better than expected."

  +
"Sulfur." Messor interjects.
Luudnt laughs and replies, "Well I have more good news for you, the financial aspect of our coup has now officially been completed."

  +
Her expression is intense, and she is experiencing the same kind of feeling that Ubica is.
Anders added, "If you consider the royal guard as our main supporting force, you can say that they are more then prepared as well."

  +
"But it's not like any other kind of sulfur, it's just like the..." Messor takes a gasp of air before finishing her sentence.
Sturgess' body is brewing with pleasure and excitement. "This couldn't get any better... Give me a week, I'll set up a battle plan and we'll begin our coup the second I'm finished."

  +
Her and Ubica's eyes meet and it looks as though the both of them have just realized something at the same time.
Anders leans his back on the wall and asks, "Should I set the schedule?"

  +
"It can't be..." Ubica grumbles.
Sturgess walks down the stairs and past the two, he turns to them and shows a confident grin when he responds, "Mark the day on the calender, one week from now, the country of Troy will be ours."

  +
"You don't think that it's the same as--"
Aders and Luudnt smile and salute him. Simultaneously, they both shout, " Yes sir!"

  +
"Hey look over here!" shouts Tsubiri.
The three go their separate ways to prepare for an epic betrayal.

  +
Her voice interrupts their train of thought and they walk to where she is pointing.
Now by his lonesome on the outskirts of the castle and resting on a grassy bank by the moat is Sturgess. Though one would not think that he is alone when he begins to talk to someone.

  +
"I'm sure we’re just letting our noses fool ourselves..." Ubica says to Messor, his voice full of doubt.
"I must say, you are indeed fulfilling those far-fetched words of yours snake."

  +
She turns to him and sighs, "...Yeah, you're right. It’s got to be that."
The snake's head appears from the back of his large hand and says, "I do not lie General Sturgess. My words are gold if you wish to work with me."

  +
Tsubiri is pointing at some writing that was left in the dirt, it states, 'We have gone on ahead of you.'
"I can't believe it, I finally get to have Lelaine all for myself, and along with her, the entire country of Troy. Both of them are in my grasp."

  +
"That's good, that means that they made it." Daey said with a relieved sigh.
"Believe it my fair General, not only will you have the two desires you wish to have most, but you will also take rule of all the Kingdoms of this world."

  +
Scrolling below the large letters are smaller ones that are a little hard to see without leaning over, these spell the names of everyone who is still alive in Rage's group.
Sturgess' face becomes distorted with an insane smile, the thoughts of such grandeur extend his greedy nature tenfold as a sickening pleasure grows in his body.

  +
Both Strauphius and Daey turn and look away quickly, they are too nervous to read it themselves so they ask Ubica to read it for them.
"That's right! It will all be mine!"

  +
Of course he was wary to learn of the results also, but he obliges.

  +
"These look more like signatures."
The snake slides up his arm and speaks,

  +
"That means it was written by them separately, that's good." Trojia added.
"With me by your side, anything is attainable."

  +
"Um... Starting from the top it says: Cyrus, Aria, Niera, Xavier, Sora, Phoenix... and at the bottom it says Rage but it's written all sloppy."

  +
An even bigger sigh of relief comes from both Strauphius and Daey, both of their siblings are okay, the heavy weight of worry has been lifted off their shoulders by this confirmation.

  +
"Wait, where's Luke?" Trojia queries.
--------------------------

  +
Reading the list again, they find that his name is nowhere to be found.

  +
"That doesn't mean that---"

  +
"He died..." Napoleon interjects, he grits his teeth and flares his nostrils.
In a dark room sits a man on a throne with a large chessboard in front of him. Unlike the last time where there were few chess pieces that were positioned away from its original starting point, today almost every piece, both black and white have been moved and some of them are on the floor by his feet signifying that they have been defeated.

  +
"I'm sorry Napoleon." Ubica said with a saddened expression.
Though his face can't be seen due to the darkness covering the upper part of his body, his red eyes glow and it becomes obvious that a menacing grin has surfaced under them.

  +
Napoleon turns away and starts walking toward the Gate.
"Prince Noah... You certainly have a troublesome ability, but little do you know, everything you had just done made things much easier on me."

  +
"It's not like we're related or anything... It's just that as a General, having a Prince die under my tenure is unforgivable."
Once again there is a man who stands at the base of the throne, this man is not Beelzebub nor Damien, he has dark blue hair and bright blue eyes. His name is Leviathan and he ranks second in the Hierarchy.

  +
The rest leave him alone and simply follow him toward the light under the arches.
Leviathan is glaring at the chessboard and asks, "Judging by the atmosphere surrounding you, I'd assume everything is going great."

  +
Though Tsubiri didn't know Luke all too well, they spent a good enough amount of time around each other that she knew he was a good person.
The man on the throne simply replies, "That's right, I am only a few steps away from owning the human world."

  +
"I kind of see where he's coming from... though I don't like him, I don't know what I'd do if Prince Xavier died. Especially since I'm supposed to be the one protecting him."

  +
Ubica doesn't respond, he doesn't know how to associate himself with the honor code these soldiers follow, but he does know the feeling. When Niomyo was killed he felt like he had failed her, the only thing he can do is vow that he will never let it happen again and never look back.
"How so?"

  +
Trojia comes up to Ubica's side and asks, "What do you think it will be like on the other side of the Gate?"
"Take a look at the chessboard, look at the position of the chess pieces ."

  +
"Beats me... I just hope it's not cold."
Leviathan looks at it and finds that the two white pieces, along with a bishop and a knight are surrounded by numerous black pieces.

  +
Tsubiri snaps out of her deep thought and shouts, "I think it'd be great if it is cold! Then I can buy you another jacket!"
"Is it relevant?"

  +
Ubica pulls on Tsubiri's ear. "If you buy me another one of those jackets I'll smother you with it."
"Of course it is, the white pieces represent the only obstacles that are in the way of me dominating the world... The white pieces are Noah of La'Juune, Lelaine of Troy, and King Gile and Queen Diana of Eiyalazo."

  +
"Owowowowow that's a little violent don't you think!? How can you say that to such a fragile girl!?"
"I don't know much about this game, but basically, this means 'check' right?"

  +
“You are about as fragile as the toughest guy I know!"
"Yes, that's exactly what it means. I have made my moves perfectly and everything is starting to fall into place."

  +
Tsubiri flails her arms around like a little child until she grabs a hold of Ubica's thumb and pulls as hard as she can.
"What do you need to have done in order to win this game?"

  +
"Do tough guys fight like this!?"

  +
She opens her mouth and chomps down on three of Ubica's fingers, causing him to scream.
The man leans his head on his hand and says, "It's not what I need to have done, it's what will happen... The Prince of La'Juune was foolish enough to kidnap one of my pawns, with my help, Rain Von Ronheim will kill him as soon as the opportunity presents itself. General Sturgess lusts for Queen Lelaine, but now that King Zurvick is dead, a weak minded person like her is extremely vulnerable, so I will have him kill her during the coup. And Prince Dice is already on his way to kill his parents thanks to his foolishness in believing in my lies when I told him that King Gile and Queen Diana are actually the spies that sabotaged Rain."

  +
"Ngggyyyaaahh that hurts!!"
Leviathan gently smiles in amusement, "Humans truly are easily manipulated."

  +
Trojia can't sit idly by and watch her attack him so she jumps in and tries to pull Ubica away.
"Especially when you offer them their wildest dreams on a gold platter, all one has to do is show them the fainest of results and they drool for more."

  +
“How is it possible that you live your life perpetually shameless!? Jeez Tsubiri!" she shouts.
"With temptations like that, no man can deny you, the master conniver."

  +
Ubica has turned into a rag doll that is being yanked on in every direction, his eyes are spinning as he is being manhandled.
The man agrees and speaks, "Once the leaders of the three largest countries are dead, the ones left in line for power are the ones who's souls are bound to me under contract. Once their contract is fulfilled, I will damn those three and make their bodies my own. Once that happens, with my powers finally returned to Earth, I will be able to topple the leadership Troy, La'Juune and Eiyalazo and firmly plant myself as ruler."

  +
A black aura surrounds Messor as she watches this scene with a forced smile on her face.
The man laughs and unexpectedly stands to his feet, he walks down the three steps and past his chessboard; the dim light begins to shine on him and his blood red and black overcoat can be seen. Once the light hits his almost pale face, his features shine the room with a red aura. He has black hair that falls far below the nape of his neck, and has shining red eyes and a menacing smile on his face. He looks almost exactly like Damien except for the the two lines that fall from his eyes that make him look older.

  +
Strauphius has a slight tear in his eye and wishes he could get bit by Tsubiri.
This is Damien's father, this man is Satan.

  +
Daey laughs at the scene, relieved that a dangerous battle was just avoided and that they’re able to make it through to the next level in such high spirits.
He spreads his arms and states, "Soon enough, no man on either Earth nor Heaven will deny me as God. I am four deaths away from 'Checkmate'... And I am only four deaths away from holding all of the world in my hands."

  +
Hearing and sensing all the commotion behind him, Napoleon can't help but smile, he chuckles a little and says to himself,
The world has changed for the worse as the people in the shadows move in secret against the people of the light; tragedy awaits those who don't conform and that truth has already been self evident.

  +
“As hard as this last month has been, with you guys around... I actually look forward to our next adventure."

The future holds nothing but despair and all of the pleasant memories of the past fade away into nothing.
+
Napoleon, and the rest of the squabbling group all enter the Gate and disappear into its light.

  +
The next stop is the second level of Purgatory, where a completely new world awaits.
This sudden difference in every day life, all changed after the Night of the Ball.

  +
Different people are there to be met, and different battles will be fought.

  +
They have been bonded by a situation none of them could have foreseen, but as a result they have become a group of friends strong enough to get through it together.

(PART 3)

Ubica now sits alone by the little pond; Daey has left to head back to join the group. He lets out a nervous sigh as he plops his back onto the soft grass.

"Ubica..."

A voice comes from above the bank where he is laying, prompting him to sit up quickly and turn around.

"Ah, Trojia" he says as he readies to stand.

“Daey said you wanted to talk to me.”

Trojia puts her hand out as if telling him to be at ease, he sits back down. She takes a seat next to him and now the two are shoulder to shoulder.

“Yeah, I figured it’d be a little tough to talk in front of everyone else.”

As much as he struggles to bring this up, he’s forced to address something that has been intentionally avoided these last couple days.

They’ve all collectively shied away from bringing up Niomyo’s death in an awkward dance of protecting each other’s feelings, and this has resulted in Trojia stewing over it by herself.

“How are you feeling?”

"You mean about what happened to Niomyo?"

"Yeah..."

She purses her lips in reluctance at first, but then lets out a saddened sigh before answering, "You know... it's my fault that she's gone."

"What do you mean?"

"That night, I sent her to look for you guys because I was angry at her and wanted her to leave me alone... my spoiled attitude ended up costing Niomyo her life."

He can sympathize with her feelings, he’s been blaming himself for what happened from the beginning.

Trojia throws her head into her arms and says, "How am I supposed to live with that?”

"The last thing I said to her was so cold and mean, even though she was only trying to help me I rejected her efforts and sent her off to die."

Tears start running down her face as she sinks into her arms pressed against her knees.

"You don't have to live with it alone." Ubica answered sternly.

He can't help but reach out to her, he puts his arm over her shoulders and delicately pulls her towards him.

This catches her off guard, now being held so close she tenses up.

Ubica feels this and says, "I’ll shoulder that blame with you, I didn't protect Niomyo from what I was doing, and she was caught up in my fight with Mammon. So we can share the guilt together and get out of here for her sake."

"No, that's not fair on you..." she said, the tenses in her body melted like ice under the sun upon hearing his words.

Trojia remains silent underneath his arm, as genuine as his declaration was, the silence makes him feel a little embarrassed.

He knows that now isn’t the time to worry about his own feelings, but he can’t help but think those words were a little too sappy even for him.

“Hmph..” Trojia puffs, her head still hidden in her arms. “You’re something else you know that?”

Flustered, Ubica cringes and averts his gaze.

“But…” Trojia lifts her head up and looks to him. “This is who I know you to be. If only Niomyo could’ve seen what I see in you. You’ll have to continue to prove her wrong, that way she can rest in peace.”

Ubica doesn’t know of Niomyo’s animosity toward him before she was killed, so he’s a little confused. But when Trojia smiles at him through her tears, there’s no way he could find it in him to pry. Instead he reciprocates her smile and replies,

“I’ll do whatever it takes.”

"You made it here Aria..." said Achille Gallo in a hoarse voice.

He lies weakly on his back and looks up at Sora and the girl he raised as a daughter.

"That's right... thanks to your map and all that you've taught me."

He faintly smiles with a face full of pride, he scans his eyes around and witnesses the battle and the people involved in it.

He notices the absence of his adopted son and asks, "Where's Stauphius?"

"We got separated, but he'll be here soon!"

Achille coughs a little and tries to raise his upper body, Aria and Sora try to help him but both think that it wouldn’t be wise to put out any excess physical effort.

Once upright, he shoots her a serious glare and says, "It's good he's not here... listen to me Aria, you must get out of here immediately."

"Huh? Why would I do that?"

"Don't ask questions and just go." he answers with a rough cough.

"B-But we've trained all these years so we could get here..."

"I'm sorry Aria, but you must go."

"I don't understand, why are you telling me this now? After all this time!?"

"N-No way... They never told me anything about that."

When she says 'they' she means Rage and the others; when they first met it seemed like they were clueless about how to get out of Purgatory. So for the first few days she thought that they were completely dependent on her and Strauphius, but not too long after it became obvious that Rage was much more knowledgeable about this world.

The group the twins joined knew exactly what it took to get back home but just didn't know the direction; so it's a surprise to her that they never bothered to mention to her that their situation is much more implausible than it already is.

Achille glares at her again and tries to tempt her to leave by giving her one final warning.

"But that's not all... that man, the Gatekeeper... he is unbeatable."

The lights surrounding Phoenix exude the energy of violence, if anger had a natural color it would shine like this as it illuminates so bright that it could be seen as a beacon beaming up towards the heavens as far as the sky can stretch.

The feeling coming from this is not what you'd expect from a man of God, but rather, to Rage, it feels more similar to the feeling that comes from Ubica when he allows himself to become absorbed by his power.

(This power... What has happened to the Messiah!?) Rage thinks to himself as he stares in awe.

His first instinct is to protect the rest of the group, so he raises his scythe and forms a black cloud that surrounds himself and the rest of them like a lantern would a candle.

"What in the world is going on out there!?" shouts Cyrus in confusion.

The truth is, Rage doesn't even know how to address that question, so instead he just clicks his tongue and shuts his eyes.

"How is Phoenix able to do these things!?" asks Xavier, his tone demanding an answer.

They all bombard themselves with unanswerable questions that Rage thinks are directed towards him, he grows increasingly frustrated until the breaking point in which he shouts in anger,

"Shut up!!"

The group instantly stops their babbling and looks at him in shock, he takes a deep breath and calmly says, "That man, is not who you think it is... as to how and why he is doing all this, I do not know. So stop pestering me with questions that I can’t give you the answer to."

His cold glare makes them all jolt back in nervousness; his reaction reminds them of a playful warning from Ubica about how upset Rage gets when asked too many questions.

These feelings are directly implanted within the soul of Rage, he has been repeatedly questioned for thousands of years about what he really represents and so on.

The hatred for an existence long interrogation from the masses is one of the reasons why he named himself Rage in the first place, whether it be the fault of Heaven or Hell, the result will always be the same.

One person does not tremble in fear at Rage, but instead presses forward and asks yet another question.

"Shouldn't we help him?"

This unusually stern voice comes from Luke.

Rage glares at him and answers, "If you had any kind of eyesight you'd see that the way he is right now, help is the last thing he needs."

"But even so, I can't just sit here and not do anything about it."

Luke stands strong, such a rare performance of conviction coming from the shy Prince has the group more in shock about this than the situation that is occurring just on the other side of the cloud.

"Well you don't have a choice in the matter, you're stuck here."

Luke sighs and looks to the floor, after a moment of silence he clenches his fists and his shoulders tense up, as if struggling to convince himself to speak he mumbles, "L-Let me out."

"??"

Rage twitches his eyebrow at the boy's open defiance.

Luke raises his head and reveals a face full of determination. "You know... since I got here I noticed something strange going on with my body... I can do things, incredible things that I never could before."

"Wait... you don't mean--"

Rage huffs air out of his nose and sarcastically smiles, "A touching speech, but that isn't going to make me let you leave."

Luke smiles and turns his back to Rage, he takes a couple steps and says, "I didn't think it would."

He holds his right hand out and touches the wall of black smoke surrounding them, a white light flashes on the five fingertips and within a second a huge gap in the smoke appears and Luke casually walks through.

The gap suddenly closes back up and Rage is completely surprised, this kind of thing has never happened before. It is incomprehensible for even a demon to break through the cloud, much less a regular human.

He once again becomes angered and says under his breath, "Fighting to protect us... Foolish child, that man whom you have known your whole life is fighting only for revenge."

Having no clue how to react to all this, he lets his thoughts exit his mouth in a shout,

"Seriously just what the fuck is going on!?!?!?"

"Look at you... I do believe that you have forsaken yourself." states Pontius as he readies himself in a defensive position.

Phoenix holds his hand out at points down at Pontius; the multicolored flame forms into a huge ball and immediately shoots toward the direction in which his hand points.

The ball screams toward the surface at such a speed that there is no way Pontius can avoid it, so instead of attempting to flee he lifts his arm and takes the hit directly.

A huge explosion rips through the hard ground as if it was a large boulder being dropped into a body of water. Rocks and debris are sent flying in all directions and mercilessly crash into the surrounding objects.

Aria and Sora shield Achille the best they could and luckily take on only a little bit of damage.

A dust cloud forms over the area and Phoenix allows himself to gently float to the ground; his face still looks rough when he says, "It was not I who has forsaken myself... now, and just like always... It was 'him'."

"Interesting... this is not something that I can speak with confidence about because you are much closer to the almighty than I'll ever be. But I think that something went terribly wrong, and you were the one who changed for the worse because of it." said Pilate.

His voice came from the dust, and in a flash that dust gets blown away by an intense wind.

Standing on a very small piece of land surrounded by a huge crater, the former judge is unscathed, not even the ground directly below his feet showed any sign of damage.

Phoenix looks shocked but he chooses not to ask how, sensing that Pontius will explain it, he just stands there and glares at him.

"I believe I have already told you this... It's my job to judge who is allowed to pass through the Gate, those who I don't deem fit shall never enter. Do you want to know how I know when someone is fit to pass?"

"Tch." Phoenix hisses, he grinds his teeth as though he knows where this is going.

"It is as simple as whether or not they can physically touch me."

The route in which Phoenix thought the conversation was going has been completely shattered, he was under the impression that Pilate was going to say that it was the will of God or something to that effect.

"Huh?" he mutters in confusion.

Pontius spreads his arms, "My power is very unique, those who wish to pass for any kind of ill intentions can never touch me, I guess you can say that my body is a repellent for people like you..."

He then points out toward the crucified men and finishes, "As you can see, the majority of people who came to me were rotten as well."

Phoenix frowns and rushes Pontius.

Out from his arms comes the form of a flame sword that readies to stab through whatever comes in its way.

Pontius stands calmly and doesn't budge from his position, the sword strikes his chest and a loud popping noise is heard.

Phoenix's flame is instantly extinguished, the fire that once emanated so terrifyingly bright is reduced to nothing more than a candle flicker.

He is now standing defenseless in front of the Gatekeeper with a surprised look on his face.

Pontius continues his statuesque glare when he speaks, "Indeed, something went terribly wrong with you. Your intentions for passing the Gate are driven by vengeance and spite, you are no different from all of those people who lay dead behind me. For that, I shall not allow you to pass."

Pontius grabs his standard issue Roman sword and violently swings for Phoenix's neck.

"You heard what the Gatekeeper said... anyone who wishes to pass that has any kind of selfish thought cannot even touch him." said Achille as he addresses Aria about their hopeless disposition.

"B-But... there's gotta be some way."

"There truly isn't, Aria, his standards are too high. The slightest negative thought in your head will turn you into an easy target."

Aria frowns as she pats some of the dust off her small shirt left over from the most recent explosion, she stands up and pulls the long-sword off her back.

"I learned something about myself last week when we were attacked by a demon... it's something that I must change in order to protect these people who I now consider my friends."

Achille looks at her with eyes pleading against her actions, "You're not actually going to fight are you?"

She glares at him in determination, and that is enough to answer his question perfectly.

Fearing the worst he tries to shout with all his strength. "No! You mustn't do that! He'll use your own motives for being here to kill you!"

Aria frowns and quickly retorts, "I don't believe that for a damn second!"

Her shout makes his shoulders jump, he stays silent as she continues.

"I refuse to believe that everything me and Strauph worked so hard for can be defeated like that. Besides, my motives for passing the Gate are now not only for myself, it's for my friends, and for their friends, for their family, for everyone back on Earth!"

It would seem that Aria has grown from a young thief into a fine young woman. She has caught a glimpse of the bigger picture and now that she realizes how grand the happenings around her actually are.

This past month has shown her what is truly important and what her role has to be in order to protect it.

She smiles at Achille and turns away, this is the new Aria that now has more than just her brother.

This is the new Aria who is willing to risk her life for her friends and for people she has never even met.

This is the new Aria.

The Aria who will fight.

Pilate's blade rips through the air at a blinding speed, Phoenix has no time to avoid it and will most certainly have his head rolling on the ground in mere moments.

This situation is the exact opposite of how he expected it to go.

In terms of strength, it was obvious that Phoenix was so far ahead of Pontius that it felt as though he was a tiger facing off in a fight against a small deer in an enclosed space.

In a matter of fact, what he revealed wasn't even his full strength, yet no matter how much power he fought with it still wouldn't mean a thing.

Pilate's unique ability to negate an attack that has negative feelings behind it means that Phoenix is now the helpless deer.

(Damn it!!)

He shuts his eyes and waits for what will definitely be an interesting sensation when his head is sent flying.

But, that feeling never came and the sound of a huge blast rings through his ears and forces his eyes open.

What he sees is a white light that hit Pontius in the chest and sent him flying away into one of the large pillars of the Gate.

He turns towards the light's source and sees Luke standing there with both hands pointed out.

"Are you okay Phoenix!?" Luke asks..

Phoenix stares at him and softly asks, "Your attack... It worked? How?"

He is amazed that an attack hit Pontius and caused him so much damage, even more so than finding out that Luke has the ability to do such a thing to begin with.

"I don't know how... but since I got here I've had the ability to solidify heat, whether it is a small amount of heat or a lot, I can maneuver it into any form I want." Luke explains.

He's basically saying that if there was a fire, he'd be able to take the heat from that fire and turn it into a white hot beam of energy and send it zooming at a target.

In this case, he used his own body heat to shoot it toward Pilate, saving Phoenix just in the nick of time.

Phoenix chuckles a little and regains his kind composure. "Thanks Luke... you really saved my neck there."

Luke smiles and shows his pleasure in Phoenix's appreciation, but that smile quickly turns stiff when a flash is seen out of the corner of his eye.

A sword is flying through the air at such a speed that it seems more like a bullet, it's a standard Roman issued short blade that's being used as a projectile.

The only thing that can possibly stop the movement of the sword is Luke's face, the two are on an unavoidable collision course and neither Phoenix or Luke can do anything about it.

Luke flinches and slams his eyes shut when all the sudden...

SCHWIIING!!!

The sound of metal against metal is heard.

He opens his eyes and finds Aria standing in front of him, she had just blocked the short blade's path with her huge long-sword and saved him at the last second.

She turns around to him and says, "Hit the deck, this is gonna be a big one!"

Aria snatches the spinning short blade right out of the air before it could hit the ground, and in one swift motion she chucks the sword right back towards the direction in which it came.

A short moment later...

BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

A massive explosion shakes the ground like a large quake; shards of rocks, stone, wood and marble are sent flying at them.

Seeing that Luke didn't hit the deck at all because the whole incident happened far too fast, Aria dives on him and protects him.

But her efforts ended up being unnecessary, Phoenix used his cloth and turned every last piece of debris into flames; with one simple swing, any kind of projectile was deflected as if someone had swung a flyswatter into a swarm of flies.

"Are you okay?" she asks Luke, who stares up at her with a flushed face.

Her chest is rubbing on his shoulder so it makes his heart beat extraordinarily fast, at a closer look he sees that her small shirt has ridden up towards her neck.

Despite the life threatening situation they’re in, the feeling of her chest and the sight of her bare stomach has actually done the most damage to him.

"Umm-ehh-ahh I'm fine!!" he shyly replies with his eyes fixated on this never before seen sight.

Aria's eyebrow raises as she follows his eyes down to what he's looking at, she immediately covers herself up and yelps.

“Kyaahh!”

She instantly stands up off of him, pulling down her shirt at the same time.

"S-Sorry, I didn’t mean to look." Luke said, he looks more embarrassed than she does about it.

Aria huffs air out of her nose and replies, "You should be honored! You’re a lucky bastard!"

"Eh?"

She smiles and sticks her tongue out at him, she then turns away and holds up her sword in a battle stance. Assuming that her attack did nothing to Pontius, she knows that the odds are stacked against her as she waits for the smoke to clear.

An unpleasant sweat runs down her temple when she thinks about all the recent times she used her attack on someone and failed to inflict any damage.

These memories make her doubt her ability and all the years of effort she put into it, but she shrugs it off when she understands that no matter what, she must do something.

The smoke begins to clear and the silhouette of Pontius can now be seen, she tenses up and waits for him to do something, but his lack of movement makes the seconds go by even longer.

He is simply standing there like a stone, the smoke finally dissipates and what's left standing there shocks Aria.

Pontius is standing statue-like just as she expected, but what is amazing is his appearance.

A huge hole can be seen on the right side of his chest where Luke's light hit him, and the rest of his body is covered in cuts and bruises. A couple of his ribs can be seen through a wound in his side and his face is completely bloodied, his arms and legs have shards of debris sticking into him like leeches.

"I-It worked?" Aria asks, amazed at the fact she finally did some damage to her target.

Pontius takes a step closer and blood falls from seemingly every point of his body.

"Tell me woman, tell me boy... Why do you want to pass through the Gate?"

Pontius already knows the answer to this question the moment they attacked him. Their intentions were rushed into his body. But he still felt compelled to ask as if to confirm it.

Luke stands up and looks determined, he and Aria glare at each other and smile, they turn back to Pontius and simultaneously reply, "To protect our friends!!"

Pilate cracks his lips up ever so slightly and holds out his index finger.

"Very good, you have my approval to pass."

"Huh?"

"!?"

"You are saying that we can go through!?" Aria asks.

She and Luke both smile as though they had just won a great prize in an arcade game.

But their celebration is cut short by Pontius saying, "But... I must ask you, are you willing to leave the rest of them behind?"

Luke and Aria glare at him in confusion as he continues to speak.

"You are approved, but of course they are not. Your approval shall depend on whether you wish to leave them behind or not. So which will you choose?"

They stay silent for a moment and then Luke frowns and shouts, "Fuck that!!!"

Aria looks at this new side of Luke that she has never seen before and smiles, she readily agrees with his statement by explaining to Pontius why they have come to this conclusion.

"Is that a joke? We say we are fighting for our friends and then all the sudden you ask if we will leave them behind?"

She lifts her sword and points it at him.

"I accept the fact that you'll let me pass, but I'm taking all of them with me!!"

"Very well then... all of you shall be crucified for your ill intentions."

Phoenix takes a step back and frowns as if he is thinking of a way that he can kill Pontius himself, but for now he can only hope that Aria and Luke can hold him off until then.

Pontius takes a step forward and begins to walk toward them with no worry.

Aria nudges on Luke's shoulder and says, "After this battle is over, I want you to act tough like this more often..." She turns to him and smiles, "If you are always this cool... I may just end up falling for you.”

Luke's face turns bright red and he mumbles in embarrassment because he has no clue what to say back to that.

After a moment of thinking over what she just said, he shakes off the fuzzy feeling of her words and reveals a confident smile.

"Okay I will... we'll have to win first though."

"Right!"

As though that was a cue for an attack, the two rush toward Pontius with a battle roar.

Luke points his hand out and a white light comes shooting forward.

The beam rushes at Pilate but he easily avoids by jumping up and off to the side, his movements continue to be as limber as ever despite the grievous injuries he suffered.

But Aria is standing right where he is going to land, stuck in the air, he cannot avoid whatever is about to happen.

Aria picks up a rock and throws it up at him.

Pontius understands that she has some kind of ability that causes explosions so he figured it'd be wise to dodge the rock at all costs; he twists his body and the rock flies right past him.

Aria smiles and the rock blows up right behind him, causing him to shoot toward the ground, and where he is falling, her huge long-sword awaits to skewer him.

Pontius once again holds out his index finger, and the tip of it collides with the tip of Aria's sword.

Surely his hand will be cut off.

However, this results in his miraculous display of acrobatics.

He is balancing atop the sharp blade with one finger.

While doing so he explains, "Other than my power of 'Judgment', I have no abilities of my own, so in order to make up for such a thing I have undergone thousands of years of physical training. So much so that no one would be able to defeat me in hand to hand combat."

He flips over the sword and kicks her in the back, making her fall face first into the ground.

"Aria!" shouts Luke as he runs to her aid.

He helps her up and makes sure she is okay when Pilate continues to speak.

"Knowing that, what do you think I'm going to do to thwart your efforts?"

He holds his hand out, taking a stance that shows he is prepared to fight using just his body.

"That's right, all I need to do is stay close to you, and your deaths will be imminent."

Luke frowns and sends another light beam at him, Pontius dodges it and does a couple back hand somersaults to get away.

Upon regaining his footing he looks up and finds that they are running away from his range.

He stands and says, "Oh that's right I forgot... I guess I have one more trick up my sleeve."

He holds his hand out as if presenting someone’s arrival and then a bony hand comes from the ground and grabs Luke's ankle.

Not noticing what had just happened, Aria continues to run and unintentionally leaves Luke behind.

"What an idiot right Luke? Why would he be stupid enough to tell us exactly what his plan is on fighting us?"

When no reply comes, Aria laughs a little.

"Oh come on, you actually don't have to act cool all the time Lu---"

She happened to glance over to her side and sees that Luke is not there.

"Luke?"

She stops in her tracks and turns around, what she sees is something that makes her face turn blue.

Luke is standing there with two skeletal Roman soldiers holding on to him.

But that is not what has gotten her so frightened, they aren't holding him with their bony hands, but rather their rusty steel swords that are impaling his gut and his chest.

Aria can't help but shout his name in horror,

"LUKE!!!!!"

In the black cloud is Niera, Cyrus and Xavier, all of them are looking confusedly at Rage, who looks as though he was just hit with something hard. It wasn't an attack or anything that got him rattled, but the sight of seeing Luke impaled by the two bone soldiers.

Rage can see outside his cloud whereas to the others it is simply a black wall, he has been watching their battle in great interest while the rest have been forced to use their imagination.

(This is bad!) he thinks to himself.

But he knows that if he goes out to help it would leave the rest of them defenseless against more of those creatures. Not to mention if he were to attack Pontius himself it wouldn't do any good either.

A man such as Rage would never pass the test that would allow him to inflict any damage.

(Damn it! No wonder why none of the 7 Demons of Hell just waited for us here... If they did they would easily be slain by the Gatekeeper.)

This is very true, nothing that belongs to Hell would ever be able to defeat Pontius, this truly makes him one of the most frightening beings to come across.

It would seem that the only ones capable of defeating him are Aria and Luke, two normal humans.

"VANISH!!" Phoenix shouts, and the two bone soldiers instantly turn to dust.

He immediately rushes to Luke, after dropping her sword Aria runs in to help as well.

Luke coughs up blood and falls to the ground.

"S-Shit..." he quietly says to himself as he rolls onto his side.

Aria reaches him and assesses the damage done, she turns pale at the sight. The two wounds are placed perfectly over vital points of his body, one in the lung and the other in his liver.

These two injuries combined make it so there isn't much hope in him surviving.

Frantic and scared, Aria desperately tries to figure out something that she can do but it's no good, she's only good for causing explosions.

Phoenix hisses in anger, there isn't anything he can do either because he no longer has the ability to heal people, it's not like he personally wanted to trade it for the powers he has now, it's just that the ability he had was taken back by God so he can fight with his words during the battle of Armageddon.

Showing no mercy, Pontius leaps forward and kicks Phoenix square in the face, it sends him flying and now the only one left to attack is Aria who's pretty much a sitting duck in her position alongside Luke.

But before Pontius can reach his target, he is once again interrupted by someone, but not just one this time, it's two.

Sora has sliced his side with her blade and Achilles stabs him in the ribs with Aria's dropped long-sword.

Now kept from attacking his original target, he switches his attention to them.

With his right foot he kicks Sora in the stomach and sends her flying as well.

The strength in this standing kick was incredible, it only goes to show how much a few thousand years worth of training can do to the body. It would be a miracle if a couple of Sora's ribs weren't broken.

After shooing the girl away like an insect he pulls out a dagger from his waist and lunges at Achille.

Being old, tattered and weak, Achille used his last bit of strength to plunge the sword into Pilate's body, so avoiding the dagger is an impossible task.

He smiles and then...

Thunk!!

The dagger slams into his throat and the tip of the blade protrudes out of the back of his neck.

However, this horrible impact doesn't affect his grip on Aria’s longsword.

In fact, Achille uses his free left hand to grab the left arm of Pontius, this was a trap, and the Gatekeeper fell right into it.

The smile still remains on his face, leaving Pontius to wonder just what in the world he's smiling about when from below him a white light starts shining.

Luke is grabbing his leg, this and the sword does not allow him to take even a step closer to Aria.

"I can tell by the look on your faces that I'm a goner..." Luke said with a strained blood stained smile.

"W-Wait... what are you guys doing?" asks Aria, who's in full on panic mode after seeing the man who raised her just get stabbed in the throat.

In a gargled tone Achille tries to speak, "I now see what I've been lacking all this time... I can now see what's truly important... Make sure to keep an eye on that idiot brother of yours Aria..."

With blood flooding out of the corners of his mouth, he smiles at her in a way only a father can smile to his daughter.

It only took him all of these years to realize that everything he's done should have been solely for their sake, and now, here is his chance to right the wrong he's done to them.

Now is the chance to truly show how much he loves them.

By giving his life for them, he will come to understand the true feeling of love.

This was actually the most important thing in life he wanted to find, and at this very moment, he's finally found it.

She begins to shake and her voice struggles to leave the back of her dried throat, "W-Wait! Wait wait wait! What are you talking about!?"

A faint voice comes from where her feet are, "Speaking of brothers... promise me that you'll take care of Xavier. I know he's brash and immature, but he's going to be the King one day so he must live on."

Luke finds the strength to smile, even as the light fades from his eyes.

“And one more thing, tell him my last words to him are... 'Grow the fuck up'."

"W-Wait..."

The only thing that can come out of her mouth is the word wait.

All of this has happened so fast that it's like she is begging for things to slow down so she can process just what exactly is going on.

Struggling to breath, Luke says, "You need to go Aria."

The light grows larger and the sense of urgency becomes more clear as Pontius begins to really try to get away.

Aria stands stiff as she mutters, "N-No..."

"You have to run, otherwise you'll get caught up in this..."

"N-No..."

"Please Aria... don’t keep me from being the cool guy now… let me be the kind of guy you could have fallen for."

Aria starts to cry hysterically as her shaky legs begin to rise into a stand, she takes a slow step back and looks at him with eyes full of sorrow. Luke needs her to get away as fast as she can, so he uses the final bit of air in his punctured lungs to shout,

"RUN, ARIA!!!!"

Aria turns and sprints away, leaving a trail of tears in her wake.

Her mind is blank as she moves so fast that the feeling in her legs is no longer there, she feels more like she’s floating atop the ground as she gets further and further away.

She shuts her eyes and grits her teeth when she shouts from within her heart...

(PAPAAAAA!!!!)

The emotion of it all expands from her chest and then out of her mouth,

"LUUUUUKKKE!!!!"

A blinding white light begins to glow from behind her and her shadow can be seen in front of her.

Chasing it with all her might like it stole something from her, everything turns an eerie quiet for a split second, and then...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!!!!!!

The shock wave from the explosion knocks her to the ground and she slides on the soil until she comes to a grinding halt; she turns on her back to see what happened and finds the most beautiful aftermath of a blast she has ever seen.

The white and gold light has a plume similar to a miniature atomic bomb, a big mushroom shape with a circled ring surrounding its neck. Aria lies there in silence as she watches the light slowly dim until it's no longer there.

As an explosion enthusiast she can honestly say she has never seen anything like it before.

She shifts her eyes toward the spot where Pontius, Luke, and the man she called Papa were once intertwined with each other.

There's nothing.

Only the black and charred ground remain.

It is without a doubt the evidence of the deaths of those three, the blast was so powerful that nothing remains.

In somewhat of an entranced state, Aria raises her hand to the sky and says, "What a grand finale, Luke..."

Tears fall from her eyes and she sniffles through her nose when she finishes.

“You really are so damn cool.”

"Are you okay?" asked Phoenix while covering both himself and Sora with his flame cloth.

"...Yes..." Sora replies as she holds her ribs that are throbbing in pain.

The two of them gander at the damage done and can only widen their eyes in amazement, two humans defeated such a fearsome Gatekeeper. Though, unfortunately, they lost their lives in the process.

Phoenix slams his fist into a nearby stone and frowns.

He is angered at himself for not finding a way to defeat Pontius himself, he is very mad at the fact he wasn't able to exact revenge with his own hands.

But he is even more angered at the fact he let someone he cared about die because of it.

"... Aria..." Sora says as she begins to walk toward her friend.

Aria is standing at the point of the explosion in the charred soil, nothing is left of the three men, not even a memento; that is, until she kicks around the dirt a little and finds a piece of something shiny. She leans over and picks it up, but quickly drops it when the heat of it burns her hand. Looking down on it she sees that it is a little shard of her once huge long-sword.

It is nothing close to a weapon now but it is at least something to remember Achille and Luke by, she picks it up again, not caring about the heat and clenches her fingers around it.

"Heyyyy did you guys win!?" shouts Xavier.

He and the rest are running toward them, excluding Rage, who is slowly walking behind them.

Phoenix clicks his tongue and looks away, "I guess you can say that..."

"That's good right!? Now we can pass through the Gate!" Xavier exclaims.

Phoenix, Aria and Sora all stay silent as Xavier keeps speaking.

"This is great! I feel like I'm one step closer to home! Right Luke!?"

Being used to having his little brother by his side to smile embarrassingly and agree with him, he speaks as if he's been there the whole time. Phoenix and Aria's shoulders jump as they watch Xavier look around the area confusedly once he doesn't hear a reply.

"Where's Luke?"

The priest and the thief look at each other, their eyes asking which one of them wanted to explain what happened when from behind they hear a voice saying,

"He's dead."

Before either of them could say it, the harsh words come from the mouth of a cold Rage as he walks through the group and towards the Gate. Phoenix scowls at him but it doesn't affect Rage one bit as he continues his walk.

"W-Wha?" Xavier mutters.

The questioning voices don't only come from him, Niera and Cyrus have no clue what's going on either.

To ease the sting from the sharp words of Rage that happened to be oh so reminiscent of the time when Damien told the two Princes that their father had died; Phoenix walks to him and puts his hand on his shoulders.

"He died protecting all of us, he is a true hero."

"Huh? What kind of sick joke is this?" he inquires.

Phoenix takes his hand off his shoulder and shifts his eyes away once again as Xavier continues to deny it.

"Come on Phoenix, that wasn't funny at all."

He takes a step back and his eyes start to move from side to side in a frantic motion.

"Lies!! This is a damn lie!"

They still don't say anything and Xavier really begins to feel with certainty that he is telling the truth; the thing is, he just doesn't want to believe it.

"Liar! What kind of a priest would lie to a Prince so blatantly!?!? When we get back I'll have your head for such a thing! I wi---"

SLAP!!!

Xavier's face is hit hard by the open palm of Aria.

She has tears running from her eyes when she says, "Before he died I made two promises to Luke... And one of them was to tell you his last words to you."

Shocked and stiff, Xavier can't speak so he softly groans.

"..?"

Aria grabs his collar and shouts point blank in his face, "His last words to you were grow the fuck up!!'"

This may seem cruel to say to someone who had just lost his brother, but that attitude of his is exactly what Luke’s dying wish was to see come to an end; so no matter how rough it is, how rough she has to be with him from now on, Aria is going to make him change no matter what.

Her mind is set. To show Luke her thanks, she will do whatever it takes to fulfill that promise she made to him.

Xavier will become a person Luke would be proud of with her help.

Rage is close to the Gate when he hears a voice come from behind him saying, "Hold on a second! What about the others? Shouldn't we wait for them to arrive?"

The voice comes from Cyrus, who is standing in front of a silent and distraught Niera.

"Absolutely not, we must leave immediately." Rage bluntly replies.

"But! Princess Niera hasn't seen her sister in months, she doesn't even know if she is safe or not! Can't we wait for them to get here so we can all pass to the other side together?"

After finding out that Luke had died, a soft spot in Cyrus' heart has been squeezed, if something were to happen to Daey, Niera would probably break down.

So he wants to make sure that Daey is alright before moving on to the second level of Purgatory.

He assumes that Aria would really want to see Strauphius as well.

But this plea falls on deaf ears when Rage bluntly responds with a resounding,

"No."

Cyrus' shoulders drop.

Though he can’t be for sure, he’s assumed correctly. The Hierarchy knows the location of this Gate because it is the only one that remains stationary, all of the rest will change periodically in time.

That being said, they know of this location on the first level already, if they find out that Pontius has been defeated they could literally appear here out of nowhere in a split second.

That's more than enough of a reason to leave the others behind and hope that Damien and the others don't catch on to the Gatekeeper's demise before the rest arrive.

The rest of the group slowly follow and Rage turns away from them, he truly isn't happy at the way things have turned out. This includes both Luke dying, and the true identity of Phoenix.

"Tch..." he hisses, and then says to himself, "Ubica... I can only hope that things have gone smoother for you."

The next day, Ubica and his group are walking up the trail that leads to the Gate, after a few minutes they finally reach their month long destination. A huge sigh of relief can be heard from the group, but a serious aura quickly sucks up the air when they think that they will most likely be fighting the Gatekeeper.

Scoping the area they see all the crucified bodies, some of the crosses are still intact and some are broken and the bones that were once nailed on them are scattered all over the place. There are signs of numerous explosions that happened so it becomes quite obvious that a serious battle has already taken place.

"Do you think it was Rage and the others?" asks Napoleon.

"Yeah..." Ubica answers, "But there is no sign that Rage fought in this one though, I’d be able to sense the remnants of his power otherwise."

"If Rage wasn't the one fighting then who was it?"

"I don't know... I have a funny feeling about this place."

Napoleon's eyebrow twitches. "Is it important?"

Ubica shuts his eyes and rubs his temple. "No not really... it's just this smell, it's very distinct... it smells like---"

"Sulfur." Messor interjects.

Her expression is intense, and she is experiencing the same kind of feeling that Ubica is.

"But it's not like any other kind of sulfur, it's just like the..." Messor takes a gasp of air before finishing her sentence.

Her and Ubica's eyes meet and it looks as though the both of them have just realized something at the same time.

"It can't be..." Ubica grumbles.

"You don't think that it's the same as--"

"Hey look over here!" shouts Tsubiri.

Her voice interrupts their train of thought and they walk to where she is pointing.

"I'm sure we’re just letting our noses fool ourselves..." Ubica says to Messor, his voice full of doubt.

She turns to him and sighs, "...Yeah, you're right. It’s got to be that."

Tsubiri is pointing at some writing that was left in the dirt, it states, 'We have gone on ahead of you.'

"That's good, that means that they made it." Daey said with a relieved sigh.

Scrolling below the large letters are smaller ones that are a little hard to see without leaning over, these spell the names of everyone who is still alive in Rage's group.

Both Strauphius and Daey turn and look away quickly, they are too nervous to read it themselves so they ask Ubica to read it for them. Of course he was wary to learn of the results also, but he obliges.

"These look more like signatures."

"That means it was written by them separately, that's good." Trojia added.

"Um... Starting from the top it says: Cyrus, Aria, Niera, Xavier, Sora, Phoenix... and at the bottom it says Rage but it's written all sloppy."

An even bigger sigh of relief comes from both Strauphius and Daey, both of their siblings are okay, the heavy weight of worry has been lifted off their shoulders by this confirmation.

"Wait, where's Luke?" Trojia queries.

Reading the list again, they find that his name is nowhere to be found.

"That doesn't mean that---"

"He died..." Napoleon interjects, he grits his teeth and flares his nostrils.

"I'm sorry Napoleon." Ubica said with a saddened expression.

Napoleon turns away and starts walking toward the Gate.

"It's not like we're related or anything... It's just that as a General, having a Prince die under my tenure is unforgivable."

The rest leave him alone and simply follow him toward the light under the arches.

Though Tsubiri didn't know Luke all too well, they spent a good enough amount of time around each other that she knew he was a good person. "I kind of see where he's coming from... though I don't like him, I don't know what I'd do if Prince Xavier died. Especially since I'm supposed to be the one protecting him."

Ubica doesn't respond, he doesn't know how to associate himself with the honor code these soldiers follow, but he does know the feeling. When Niomyo was killed he felt like he had failed her, the only thing he can do is vow that he will never let it happen again and never look back.

Trojia comes up to Ubica's side and asks, "What do you think it will be like on the other side of the Gate?"

"Beats me... I just hope it's not cold."

Tsubiri snaps out of her deep thought and shouts, "I think it'd be great if it is cold! Then I can buy you another jacket!"

Ubica pulls on Tsubiri's ear. "If you buy me another one of those jackets I'll smother you with it."

"Owowowowow that's a little violent don't you think!? How can you say that to such a fragile girl!?"

“You are about as fragile as the toughest guy I know!"

Tsubiri flails her arms around like a little child until she grabs a hold of Ubica's thumb and pulls as hard as she can. "Do tough guys fight like this!?"

She opens her mouth and chomps down on three of Ubica's fingers, causing him to scream.

"Ngggyyyaaahh that hurts!!"

Trojia can't sit idly by and watch her attack him so she jumps in and tries to pull Ubica away.

“How is it possible that you live your life perpetually shameless!? Jeez Tsubiri!" she shouts.

Ubica has turned into a rag doll that is being yanked on in every direction, his eyes are spinning as he is being manhandled.

A black aura surrounds Messor as she watches this scene with a forced smile on her face.

Strauphius has a slight tear in his eye and wishes he could get bit by Tsubiri.

Daey laughs at the scene, relieved that a dangerous battle was just avoided and that they’re able to make it through to the next level in such high spirits.

Hearing and sensing all the commotion behind him, Napoleon can't help but smile, he chuckles a little and says to himself, “As hard as this last month has been, with you guys around... I actually look forward to our next adventure."

Napoleon, and the rest of the squabbling group all enter the Gate and disappear into its light.

The next stop is the second level of Purgatory, where a completely new world awaits.

Different people are there to be met, and different battles will be fought.

They have been bonded by a situation none of them could have foreseen, but as a result they have become a group of friends strong enough to get through it together.
