I've been taught that the two are synonyms though, except 太陽 is more specific (i.e in Astronomy). 日 can also refer to the sun when used more casually which is how Shidou was describing his surroundings then. --[[User:Daylighter|Daylighter]] 22:20, 28 March 2013 (GMT + 8:00)
