Not having the JA version, I can't say for certain which is correct, but changing "father and mother" to "parents" changes the meaning. The former would indicate a specific reference to their ''own'' parents, whereas the later is a reference to parents in general. Capitalization for terms such as "mommy" or "father", etc., would also probably follow an "if it's a substitute for a proper noun, capitalize" designation. E.g., "my mommy will give me sweets" vs. "Mommy will give me sweets".
