Who does "he" refer to? What does it mean by "we shouldn't stand in here?"

He refers to Joseph. And by we should not stand in here - means we should not be wasting our time doing nothing.

Something seriously lost in the translation...

In this case it is the sweat and dirt that comes from active training. Nothing is really lost, because it can be copnsidered as filth.


"That’s why we need to watch out with the corners of our eyes.”

I kinda get it, but the expression is awkward at best in English. "That's why we need to be vigilant" conveys the same idea, in not so many words.


"Saito began trying to figure out some way of punishment."

Doesn't make sense in context. Punishment for whom? Why is he thinking about it right then?
