Kikou Shoujo wa Kizutsukanai:Volume 1 Prologue
Prologue
(INCOMPLETE)
"Yaya is really cute. Yaya is too cute. She's the cutest girl in the world."
The young maiden held her hands together and spoke those words like a prayer.
In the afternoon sunlight, the train flying over the rails blew its whistle. It was heading from London to Liverpool. In the second-class wagon sat two people wearing exotic clothes.
From their appearance, it seemed that they were Orientals, this pair consisting of a boy and a girl.
It wasn't only their appearance that was strange, but also because they seemed to be really lacking common sense. The young maiden's body was leaning towards the sleeping young man wrapped in thick clothing, while murmuring something in a low voice.
"Yaya is too cute, I love you, Yaya, Yaya has so much charm, Yaya is my wife—"
That whispering suddenly stopped.
The young man had opened both of his eyes and was gazing forward with a sharp look.
"...So you woke up, Raishin."
"What are you saying near someone else's ear?
"To make Raishin fall for Yaya, Yaya is reciting a charm."
"It's not really that, right? You just want to pollute my spirits, right?"
Completely ignoring the accusations, the young maiden heartily looked outside the window and said:
"Raishin, look, we have already arrived at 'Machine City'."
"Sigh, we've finally arrived. It has already been half a day since we departed from London, I'm so tired that even my butt is starting to hurt."
"The 'Greatest School in Western Europe' is very close now."
The young maiden said with a smile on her face.
"We will be attending that school full-time, right?"
"Yeah."
"Then there will be only the two of us alone the entire night, right?"
"You can put it like that..."
"We can continue these sleepless nights then?"
"Nope. I want to sleep, okay? If you cause some mess, I'll throw you out, okay?"
"......!?"
"Why are you putting on an expression of sorrow as if you've been bullied? By the way, we aren't here to play."
A layer of haze appeared covering the young maiden's face, while her black pupils painfully shuddered.
"...It should be on this street that the Wiseman's night party is organized."
A panicked expression immediately appeared on the young maiden's face.
"The magicians launched that bloody party in order to choose the supreme ruler..."
"Aah. It will entirely depend on you."
"Yeah. If it is for Raishin, whether is it to jump through water, tread on fire, or to jump directly in your bed..."
"Let's forget about the bed."
"Is this what we call a virg—"
"What are you saying? What the hell are you saying with that pure face?"
"If it is Raishin's wish, Yaya will accept wholeheartedly, with dedication, even if it is outside or under the stares of the public."
"I'm very grateful for your concern, but I'm sure you've got something wrong. I'm not asking you to try hard for those sort of things, understand?"
While their conversation continue like that, the view of a modern city passed by next to them.
From the wagon's windows, it could be seen that both sides of the streets had buildings made of concrete standing next to each other. Running on the asphalt road were model T Ford cars imported from the United States, while in the small plaza next to the street there were machine automatons selling coffee. The automatons' bodies were made of tin, and their clumsy movements were unnatural no matter how you looked at it.
Machinart's metropolis, Liverpool.
It is an exporter of Manchester's huge amounts of cotton towards every front line base in the world, a city which the British Empire considers a world trading port, and now, second only to the academic city of Cambridge.
Not long after that the train entered a modern station with an iron dome—
It left immediately, and with quite a great speed.
"Why isn't the train stopping?" "That was the terminal station!"
The travellers became noisy, and weren't happy to ask these kind of questions.
At that time, the train conductor quickly ran towards them.
"Everyone, please! Please calm down and listen to what I'm about to say."
The train conductor was shaking, and continued with a trembling voice.
"The brakes don't work!"
There wasn't even the sound of a fly in the wagon.
The next moment, everyone in the train panicked.
"Everyone must calm down! It's fine, the train will stop naturally on its own!"
But that voice disappeared in the midst of lamentations and anger, so it couldn't reach anyone.
However the train showed no signs of slowing down, since it was probably on a downhill slope. If it was travelling towards the bottom, it can't stop naturally.
The train conductor was shaking uncontrollably, as if it indicated that he was about to give up. Then—
"EVERYONE, PLEASE RETURN TO YOUR SEATS!"
The sights of everyone were focused on a single person.
The one who just yelled that was the young man who had been chatting with the young maiden just before.
He wasn't tall and looked fragile, but his gaze was as sharp as that of a bird of prey.
