imperial court's dinner party

(R: I wasn’t even sure how to research this, let alone adapt the translation. E: It's meant literally. When the Japanese Imperial family has a dinner party, the press is allowed to take formal pictures before, but none during, the meal.)

tsukkomi

(R: straight-man in a duo Japanese comedy routine)

3

(R: she doesn't even say please here, her verb-ending sounds like a command)

4

(R: Yumi could be thinking of Rei and Yoshino who've known each other since childhood but who have their own styles, but it could be anything...)

5

(R: Tsutako-san is referring to the time she met Shouko-chan in Variety Gift, the story entitled "Chocolate Portrait". In it, they discussed how Shouko can't act naturally in front of a camera if she knows her picture is being taken).

nenbutsu

(R: the name of Amida Buddha, recited to call upon his intervention. Also used in esoteric practice to attain this-worldly enlightenment. Buddhists have created a mechanical box called a Digital Buddhist Jukebox that recites the nenbutsu and other sutras for you to help you keep rhythm in your meditation and Shouko accidentally turned on one)
