About Me

Chinese is my first language with English and then Japanese after. However, my strongest language is English, followed by Chinese and then Japanese. I've learned English throughout my entire life, with around 6-7 years spent in Chinese and a mere 2 years on Japanese. Knowing Chinese is a cheap shortcut to Japanese though, which is why I chose it as my third language. I translate as a way of improving my Japanese. I'm new to all of this translation stuff so don't hesitate to point out mistakes and whatnot.

Stance on Translations

I translate with details in mind, trying to stick as close as possible to the original source. I know that by keeping all the details possible, reading flow in English might be a little jarring, but I believe details should not be omitted no matter the cost. I won't forgo reading flow completely though, and will always think of how to structure the sentence to get the best of both worlds.

I like to nitpick about the smallest things, such as when a sentence might sound too long in English. I would prefer to keep it in one sentence like the original but understand that it would flow better if it is split instead.

I'm the type of person who would literally translate jokes even if they don't make sense and explain it afterward. To me, using an English counterpart for such a thing isn't translating, but localizing. The English counterparts usually sound very awkward in context anyway in my experience. That said, in the most extreme cases, I won't be opposed to doing so if it vastly improves sentence flow.

I also dislike skipping chapters when translating, even when someone else has already translated them. It bugs me when I translate without knowing what previous things were translated as.

--Prologue: I found many details to be missing so I'll probably just add them in while trying to improve flow or make a second revision.
