Obsessive-compulsive editor at your service...

There is method to my madness. I will generally follow these patterns:

On spelling: in line with the site's policies I'll endeavour to use standard American English spelling when editing but some instances of my British English may slip through. I apologise for any inconvenience. The same issue obviously also applies to grammar.

With regards to the use of Japanese in the translated English text I will generally try to contrive a way to remove it in order to keep the English as natural as possible. However, I will only do so to a point where the consistency is kept in the series as a whole. A few words on this: consistency is my main priority and unless something about the first translated section of the first book bothers me (I will say what it is in that case), that will be the standard I'll hold the rest of the text to.

I generally follow the idea of “translate as much as possible” in the (probably inaccurate) expectation that the target audience is an average English speaker rather than someone who's watched fansubs all his life. To this end I may choose to completely rephrase something if I can't achieve the effect I want with what is currently “live”. In this case I'll provide the original text alongside my rationale for changing it in the talk page.

In a similar vein, I'll try to remove translator's notes, adapting the text to make them unnecessary, although I will stop if it renders the passage unwieldy.

Faithfully,
