Kino stood staring at a cloudless sky, in the middle of stone and sand desert.

She look down the stone well in front her and it was dry as a bone.

She had try lowering an iron cup into the well but it still come up empty.

That cause her to shake her head in dejection.

“Told you so! Something like this is bound to happen.”

This coming from Hemmis, which was propped up on a stand behind a white shirted and black jacketed Kino.

“This is bad....” Kino stared into stone well.

Hemmis quickly chirp in:

“We have to go back to Master, its still not too late you know.”

But Kino reject the idea by shaking her head vigorously.

“No!”

“This ain't getting us nowhere.”

Kino shakes her head again.

“I know..... but I don't want to go back.”

“You are a stubborn one. Although I understand but we can't go on with water. If you dry up that is all fine, but what will happen to me? I don't wanna be buried next to your mummified body.”

“I don't want to end up a mummy either.... but.”

“But what?”

Frustrated, Kino suddenly slap her hands on to the stone well and shout into its depth.

“Why! Why must be all dry up!”

“Probably is Karma catching up to you. For God, that is, the power who protect traveler is telling you to go home.” Hemmis reflects coldly.

Kino wipe off the beads of sweat on her forehead.

“I am so thirsty after that shouting.”

“Let's go back.”

“No!”

“.... you could at least take us somewhere where I could be found before dropping dead.”

“Too bad I can't grant that wish.”

After a short rummaging through her packs, Kino remove a coil of rope from the baggage.

“Are you gonna hang yourself?”

Hemmis asked.

A large water proof canvas was on the rope tied between the stone well and Hemmis. In the cool shades lies Kino.

“Kino. You asleep...or are you already dead?”

“No, I am not asleep and still alive....”

“If you don't make up your mind, you be dead soon.”

“...yeah.”

“The way I see it, we got 2 choices: try to go back with whatever water we got left and receive an earful from Master for secretly leaving. Or stay in the desert until you die.”

“Don't like either of them.”

Kino pull herself from the ground and got out from underneath the canvas.

A small gust is picking across the desert, sending some dust flying.

“Kino, a traveler needs to be decisive. No matter you're a greenhorn or a veteran.”

Hemmis tried to sound serious as he deliver the lecture.

But Kino paid him scant attention, she put on her coat and drags the canvas off and covers Hemmis with it.

“Kino?”

She smiles at Hemmis from behind the water proof canvas.

“No, what we need is luck.”

“Emm?”

“What traveler needs is that boost after a long struggle, a little bit of luck.”

There was single drop of water that fell on the canvas, and followed by another and then another in a rhythmic drumming before finally coming to a roar.

It has begin to rain.
