I would point out that if you are looking for a word to encompass "all types of wheat-like crops," "grains" would probably be the word that you're looking for.

"Counting the years, seven years had already passed since Lawrence began his career as a merchant at the age of eighteen." This sounds funny. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should turn it to? ( I'll take away "Counting the Years" until someone comes up with something better) ~Muffinman
