Kämpfer:Volume 4 Afterword
Postscript to Volume 4
Postscript
: This is Tsukiji, bringing you Kämpfer Volume 4.
Just a few days ago, I was talking to my editor about how "four volumes already!" It felt like the release speed was really fast, perhaps because of the consecutive releases over the first two months. (Actually, it is quite fast). At this rate, we could release six volumes this year! Wow, so fast!
The first half of this volume features a "maid cafe-like restaurant." To gather material for this, I specifically went to a real-life maid cafe… which is strange. I don't go to Akihabara much. I only went to a maid cafe once a few years ago with some other writers, and my memory of it is hazy. I don't even know if that place still exists. So I asked a girl I know who works there. Her
answer was, "Just like a regular cafe." Upon closer inspection, the only difference was that the uniforms resembled maid outfits; otherwise, it was no different from a regular cafe. I asked, "Don't you write with ketchup, play darts, or hold a gun to the customer's head and say, 'If you don't order, I'll kill you' or something like that?" But she countered with, "What's the last one?" So I skipped her and asked someone else.
A male acquaintance (a professional animator) is obsessed with maid cafes, so I asked him about it. He then told me things I hadn't even asked. He excitedly said things like, "If you win a game there, you can take a photo booth picture with the maids!" and even showed me some.
I said, "They're too small to see clearly."
He said, "This is fine!"
I had no idea what "fine" meant, but his enthusiasm was palpable.
There were other things I wanted to ask, but I forgot because of his insistence. As a result, the maid cafe became a product of my imagination in my work. If such a maid cafe really existed, I'd love to go. Even if it was incredibly profitable, I wouldn't mind.
That's all for now.
