Golden Time 7: Prologue[edit]

Prologue[edit]

When I looked back to see what was there, I understood.

There was love there.

It was a love we found, cherished and nurtured, and cradled protectively to keep it safe… a love we somehow managed to grow together, even as we nearly lost sight of it a few times along the way. Yet I walked away, leaving that love behind.

That was the last thing I could do for the sake of this love.

I mustn't look back. I mustn't stop. I have to get as far away from here as I can, as fast as I can.

Start the engine and rev the motor. Pick up speed and race down the runway. Don't let the nose hang like that; lift the nose firmly, accelerate rapidly and take off from there. So doing, soar high up into the sky.

Punch through those clouds bathed in the hues of twilight and head for the proper altitude. And if I could fly on and on, ever so far, ever so high, into the distant beyond, would I, too, one day become a star quietly twinkling in your night sky?

Or am I destined to end it all, shattered and disintegrating in mid-air, all alone in a high-altitude world where no one even knows I exist?

The scattered fragments of myself might turn into a rain of sharp, pointed fire, raining down upon you, perhaps, and tearing you cruelly apart.

Even so, I will not stop. I will never look back again. I will move further and further away, to a place infinitely distant, leaving love behind.
