Afterword[edit]

Failing Witch is at Volume 3 now.

This is Kamachi Kazuma.

This time I took a step back from the witch entrance exam and touched on the world after passing the exam. If you think about it, people can only pour so much energy into studying for the entrance exam because they believe a happy world awaits them if they do pass the exam. I explored that idea this time. …We do, after all, live in a world where it’s common to find people who graduate from a prestigious university and then can’t find a job.

I think the biggest difference between magicians and witches in my different series is that some want to use any and all knowledge, including ancient myths and religions, while others want to protect or resurrect an ancient religion as a believer in an old god. If you reread my series with that in mind, you might make some new discoveries.

I think how the story played out would have changed a lot depending on where Yagoro ran to at the middle of the story, but he ended up going to Sabbath Party, with all its drinks and dancers. How would things have played out if he had gone to the squatter’s district or to the brown mama’s used bookshop for help? If you have some time, you could imagine those scenarios.

The connections between Viocia and Tedaura and between Melehe and the bookseller mama are obvious enough, but I personally like linking Dorothea and Sorbeddy as merchants. That wasn’t part of the initial plot. This just shows that the failing witch world is starting to take on a life of its own beyond my intentions. It’s moments like this that make really glad I’m an author.

I give my thanks to my illustrator Aroa-san and my editors Anan-san, Nakajima-san, and Hamamura-san. It must have been tough working with a witch battle that can include the literally extraordinary Limit Breakers. Thank you again.

And I give my thanks to the readers. I think I’ve shown most of the witch world at this point, but what did you think? I would love nothing more than if you found a favorite witch. Thank you so much.

I will end this here.

Yes, I never said he came from our Earth!
