Honda Futayo
Oh, that rough illustration is mine.
She is Honda Tadakatsu’s daughter, but the story focuses more on her trying to be his second name inheritor than being his daughter.
That’s where the name Futayo (which can means “second generation”) comes from, but that’s because Tadakatsu was thinking about his inherited name and position and decided he was a necessary part of Mikawa after it was sealed off by the Testament Union and thus could not make full use of the inherited name.
So before the Battle of Mikawa, he at least wanted to make sure his daughter would be free.
And I feel like Tadakatsu didn’t see this as a burden. It was probably just a form of favoritism for his daughter where he went, “If there is going to be a second name inheritor, my daughter gets dibs! That’s why I gave her that name!”
Speaking of Tadakatsu, he’s kind of overpowered among the commanders of the Warring States period, which is why he’s so famous in games and anime. His spear Tonbokiri has recently come into the public eye and now we know what it looks like, but before that happened I found some materials saying it had a bamboo leaf style blade and I based my design on that. I’m glad that turned out to be correct, but you can never let your guard down when dealing with historical things because new material can turn up in real time.
By the way, Tonbokiri’s extension device is based on the fact that Tadakatsu altered the length of its shaft based on his age, his strength, and the current battlefield. Some say his armor was blue and that he wore prayer beads because he didn’t have time to give a proper farewell to the people he defeated, so I designed the father based on that.
Kazuno is based on the helmet Tadakatsu actually used. In that sense, she isn’t truly “armor”, but you get the idea.
Her design uses blue and black to match her father. Because she is from Mikawa (meaning Three Rivers), her design includes triple lines and other triple structures in places.
To make her look light, I didn’t add too much around the shoulders and made the skirt component look warrior-like. I guess I wanted her to look sporty.
There are a number of difficult problems Futayo is facing at this point, but she is generally unstoppable when she focuses on combat.
So she can start by dealing with that.
