Afterword[edit]

This is Kamachi Kazuma.

First, I need to congratulate Earth Star Novels for reaching ten years!

The themes this time were isekai, Onee-sans, and skill trees. Maybe I like gradually building up strength or maybe I just have bad reflexes and kinetic vision, but I love skill trees in RPGs. Instead of just learning more magic as you level up, I love filling in the tree on my own and opening up new paths. …Although a lot of the time I don’t bother with any kind of plan and end up stuck at the mid-level battles!

I came up with the idea of Lactic Acid Wisdom to explain how people develop their skill tree. It sounds kind of silly, but it came from the idea of something like muscle pain that gradually builds up inside people as they exercise. For example, wouldn’t it be convenient if, after working out in general, you could assign points to whatever parts of your body you wanted that workout to go toward? My god! You could even go on a diet for your stomach while leaving your boobs untouched!! This was a further expansion of that idea where it includes things like academic ability and magic. Although that also means a world like that would let you study away at your desk in order to grow more and more muscular.

One problem with fantasy is you need people from a wide variety of jobs for it to feel right, but I think I managed to mix together the enemies and allies to make the place seem lively enough.

I knew the magic types and their interactions would be confusing, so I made sure to fill out a full week-long cycle with them. When playing games, there are times when even a rock-paper-scissors can be hard to remember at first when the names are changed. Like with the onmyodo star signs, people used to be able to remember those type interactions like it was nothing. Incredible really. I hope the Archangel and Lesser Demon helped all that go fairly smoothly here…

Also, the Onee-sans! Skill Tree Goddess Seliphenia seems harmless at first glance, but I like that she casually mentioned some major bombshells here and there. Like how if the goddess reclaimed all of his skills, his max HP would reduce to 0 and he would die instantly. I mean, she is a god, so it wouldn’t be any fun if she was just an ordinary character. It works because she is really and truly madly in love with the protagonist. …She would be a terrifying character if she had a hidden side, though!! With her, the inn manager, and the older Ferslona sister, I tried to make all the “Onee-san” characters fairly dangerous. Add in the Archangel and Lesser Demon throwing out some information and you might notice some new things on a second reading?

I give my thanks to my illustrator Riichu-san ad my editors Imai-san, Nakajima-san, and Hamamura-san. In addition to the flashy skills and magic, the fantasy setting changes the everyday aspects like what they eat and where they sleep, so the illustrations couldn’t have been easy. Thank you so much!

And I give my thanks to the readers. Without dryers, how do they dry their wet hair? Are healing plants applied topically or ingested? How do dungeons naturally appear? Writing this one meant asking a lot of different questions and I thank you for reading all the way to the afterword!

And I will end this here.

Status effects are a treasure trove of overpowered options, aren’t they?
