Tense[edit]

The guidelines currently state present tense is to be used, which is really odd. In english, using present tense for a narrative invokes a particular style that is not really meant for novels. In Japanese they can get away with it because that literary form is nothing special, but in English you'd be hard-pressed to find any (non-children) novel off the shelves that isn't written in the past tense. I'm aware there's a good chunk of work already edited into present tense, but that doesn't change the fact that it reads really strangely. I'd prefer to keep discussion here but inevitably people never read this so the forum topic is here.
