− | Please note though that separation can only be something like, if text has an A and B part, and the A part or B part can be easily split off, that's how it should be done. Splitting off individual, arbitrary lines is not recommended, and could probably result in inconsistent translation quality. Having said that, anyone who is attempting this split-off should at least play the section(s) of the game involved to fully understand the context for splitting text safely. |

Return to the main page here.
Rules
- Any number of translators can translate the same file at any given time. However, if the link already has a translation, translators are advised to make changes to the current file and post in the Talk page for the respective file.
- Anonymous translation contributors are required to inform a Project Editor, Translator, or Administrator before any major contribution.
- If you're not fully confident in a line that you translated, for the moment please do not translate the line. We are looking into how to allow you to mark lines that you are not sure about so someone more experience can look it over. This rule will be revised once we have figured that out.
- If you cannot translate a line at all, and can only guess what the line is, DO NOT TRANSLATE THE LINE. Instead, leave a comment indicating what you think the line should be translating to. Making a guess makes it very difficult for translators to revise the text.
- Only Japanese->English translation is acceptable in this project. NO MACHINE TRANSLATIONS.
Style
- Names should be read as last name first. For example, Touma Kazusa, Kitahara Haruki, etc.
- Depending on context, -kun, -chan, etc. should be preserved. If a foreigner is speaking, or if a specific "style" is being spoken, words like "Lord", "Lady", "Ms.", etc. are acceptable.
- The main character may speak in past or present tense depending on circumstances; it's important to know the context of the scene before writing down anything.
- Please use American English spellings. This means -or instead of -our. Example: Color, Neighbor, Gray, Odor, etc.
- You may need to insert <nowiki> tags in order to stop the wiki from formatting certain things.
- The game may be using special tags for certain effects in the text. These must be maintained when possible, especially '\k', except for the following:
- Line breaks (\n) in general don't need to be maintained, except if the lines need to be formatted in a particular way.
- Furigana ([Rtext^furigana]) can be completely ignored if the text and furigana are far too similar for some reason (for example, the text is a Japanese name in kanji, while the furigana is really just the furigana).
- In general, the game uses 40 full-width characters for Japanese text, and 79 half-width characters for English text. Up to three lines maximum can fit in. Please use this as a general guideline to try and fit text in properly.
- Translators do not need to insert line breaks to match line width; we will have an auto-wrap mechanism in place to help deal with this.
All-Ages/Adult Differences
- Although there may be references to the adult sections of a script, there should be as much emphasis as possible in the all-ages version to keep things clean and non-explicit. Implicit may be fine, given the circumstances and context.
- There are no limitations on how the adult version of the script can be translated meaning-wise, so as long as the translation is accurate.
Names
The following names are to be used to maintain consistency:
Introductory Chapter | Closing Chapter | Other |
---|---|---|
|
|
|
Translation Syntax
The text section(s) of any script file will have something like the following:
{{WA2ScriptLine |line number|jp speaker|en speaker |jp text |en text |comment (optional, this parameter can be omitted) }}
So as an example:
{{WA2ScriptTable}} {{WA2ScriptLine |0001|雪菜|Setsuna |「おはよ!」 |"Good morning!" |Comment 1 }} {{WA2ScriptLine |0002|| |まあ、いいか。 |Well, whatever. }} {{WA2ScriptLine |0003|| |どうせ、暇だし。 |I've got time, anyway. }} {{WA2ScriptLine |0004|春希|Haruki |「あいつはまだ?」 |"She isn't here yet?" |Comment 2 }} {{WA2ScriptLine |0005|雪菜| |「ううん」 | }} {{WA2ScriptTableEnd}}
This will generate:
Speaker | Text | Comment | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Line # | JP | EN | JP | EN | |
0001 | 雪菜 | Setsuna | 「おはよ!」 | "Good morning!"
| Comment 1 |
0002 | まあ、いいか。 | Well, whatever.
| |||
0003 | どうせ、暇だし。 | I've got time, anyway.
| |||
0004 | 春希 | Haruki | 「あいつはまだ?」 | "She isn't here yet?"
| Comment 2 |
0005 | 雪菜 | 「ううん」 |
The template itself has been coded such that empty lines will be highlighted in red upon reading. This should make it easy to spot lines that haven't been translated yet.
The format to be used for any of the script pages is:
Return to the main page [[White Album 2|here]]. == Translation == *[[User:Translator|translator]] == Editing == *[[User:Editor|editor]] == Translation Notes == *insert notes here == Text == {{WA2ScriptTable}} ... insert text here ... {{WA2ScriptTableEnd}} == Script Chart == {{:White_Album_2/ScriptChart}}
