"Misery loves company... It would be far too easy to apply this idiom." The idiom "misery loves company" means something a little different from 同病相怜. The latter refers to empathizing with fellow sufferers whereas the former has a very negative connotation of wanting to drag others down with you (wanting others to feel your pain).
