Formatting Rules[edit]

Update:

We have changed the primary narration tense to present tense. For a more detailed (though still incomplete) explanation, see the baka-tsuki forum thread, post #164 (page 11).

Currently, the following rules apply:

  1. Narration and thoughts are written in present tense.
  2. …Except for obvious exceptions such as flashbacks and the like. Let common sense be your guide.
  3. There is no longer any need to distinguish Direct thoughts from regular narration. If you don't know what Direct thoughts are, don't worry about it.

Punctuation & Style Rules[edit]

  • Em-dashes (—) without spaces should be used for separating thoughts and marking unfinished thoughts.
  • Instances for which no rules have been defined are to be dealt with appropriately by using normal quotes, italics or no special treatment at all.
  • Box names are capitalized, but are no longer to be placed in quotes.
  • Special words are handled as follows:
Original Literally Actually Volume(s)
”願い” / ”箱” / ”所有者” 'wish' / 'box' / 'owner' wish / box / owner -- only the first occurrence in every chapter is to be italicized, except when required for distinguishing between generic and non-generic usage. All
”O” 'O' O All
『Name』 'Name' "Name" / Name / Name (depending on situation) All
【僕自身】 [myself] 'myself' V2
【王】 [King], [assassinated] King, assassinated V3&V4
