Flag Severed: The Battle’s Aftermath[edit]

The next morning—

Knock knock, knock knock! Souta woke to the sound of endless knocking.

Rubbing his half-open eyes, Souta opened the poor door that was subject to the knocking.

The person outside was Akane.

Previously, Akane had gone to the hospital, where the doctors had diagnosed her with a bump on the back of her head but an otherwise frighteningly healthy body and mind. She almost had seconds at dinner, but then she remembered that her weight had lost to the floorboard and begrudgingly restrained herself.

“G-good morning.”

“Morning…”

“Breakfast is already done, so I came to wake you up.”

“…Couldn’t you have just come straight in by yourself like before?”

Strictly speaking, that wasn’t good, but Souta was too lazy to care.

“T-that’s not okay!”

“……?”

Both of Akane’s cheeks reddened. Nanami, passing by behind her, looked at Souta disdainfully.

“Akane probably didn’t want to be left alone in a room with a predator who steals kisses from sleeping people.”

“……”

No matter how many times he explained it, Nanami refused to believe that his hand was forced.

“L-listen to me! That’s not what I was thinking, Souta-kun. That is, if S-Souta-kun wanted to be a predator, just let me know… or something… K-kyaaa! Kyaaa! What am I saying?!”

Akane pounded her fists on Souta’s back for a bit, then ran off squeaking towards the dining hall.

Souta watched her receding silhouette. Unlike before, her head did not have a love flag on it.

“……”

In its place, another flag fluttered atop her head.

“An Aftermath of Battle Flag… eh?”

It was Souta’s first time seeing this kind of flag. He gave a resigned smile, then went to the sink to wash his face.

As the cold water washed away his drowsiness, he leaned against the sink with both hands and stared into the mirror.

The image of himself in the mirror…

Standing on his head was…

Incomparably more overbearing than Akane’s flag…

Giant…

Definitely…

Impossible to overturn…

A pitch-black death flag that had been planted during the disaster of the Premium Ambriel.

To be continued.
