Kino no Tabi:Volume4 Chapter2
There was a beautiful grassland. A gentle breeze swept across the field, making the wild flowers dance.
On this field there is a long narrow road. The narrow white road of pebble cuts across the field into the unending horizon.
A Motoroid was moving on the narrow road.
The rider noticed something by the road not much further away, and began to slow down. It turned out to be a Child waving at the rider.
“Please take me with you.”
“No way! There is no more room.” The Motoroide answered.
The rider asked “Where do you want to go?”
But the Child could not answer.
“What is your name?”
“xxx.”
The Child replies and begged again to travel with the rider.
“No way! There is no more room.” The Motoroide repeats again.
“I cannot guarantee other’s safety, I already have my hands full looking after myself. So I cannot bring you along, you should stop your notion about it. I am selfish… I am very selfish.”
“It is not possible to travel with two people on anyway.” the Motoroide chirped in.
The Traveler dismounted and walked toward the Child, squatting down to be at eye level.
“Goodbye, xxx.”
With that, the Traveler returned to the Motoroide and left.

A Child has been left there and the Child continues to wait.
