At the beginning there was fourty of us. It appeared it's going to become a long battle, I was consterned by the feeling of the cold muzzle made for killing, but i there was no other choice than doing it.
-- There is awarded change in tense in this area. Is it possible that it's suppose to be "So, It appeared it was ..."
-- I added the implicit translation phrase in order to link the sentences together. "So, it appeared it was..."

Immediately after the start, instead of using the rifle that was available, Takeru faced the deathmatch with a bayonet attached, causing his classmates to give him looks of curiousity.
-- Though it's grammatical correct it doesn't seem like the natural language. How about to give him "curious looks" instead ?

- It should always be capitalized when it's a single word.

So I thought about it and I should share with you this e-book. I use the newer version of this book to check my papers or essays. Don't worry to much about the knowledge in the book since I am your first editor and fan.
I had no idea what construe meant so I had to look up the word. So I am leaving a comment for others who don't understand.
Definition: to interpret the meaning of (something): you can construe that in different ways
