Shinou: You’ve done well to come, my Sage.

Murata: As I thought, you’re here…

Shinou: Is my presence in my temple such an anomaly?

Murata: You’ve got a point, there…

Shinou: What, you seem dissatisfied about my return.

Murata: Dissatisfied, you say… after causing such a ruckus destroying the temple, and making such a flashy show about passing on, I was just wondering how you would have managed to get back here.

Shinou: It’s unrealistic for one such as myself to be able to pass on.

Murata: Oh right, “you’re unable to pass on”.

Shinou: Thanks our soukoku maou, my tainted soul was cleansed, and the maidens have already rebuilt the temple. I thought it would be suitable to leisurely spend the rest of my days here.

Murata: You sound like a retired old man…!

Shinou: Ree…? What does that mean?

Murata: Ah—In other words, thought it would be nice to make a reappearance.

Shinou: You could say that.

Murata: -sighs-

Shinou: What’s with you? With how badly you wished for a reunion back then, you seem to be rather displeased with the situation.

Murata: Huh? ‘Back then’…?

Shinou: Back when I was nearly destroyed—

Murata: Hey, it was you who went on about wanting to see each other again! My wish is to be rid of your burden already.

Shinou: Hmph, you’re not being honest. You were always like that. Always seeming to get ruffled over the minor things. It quite irritated me.

Murata: Right now, the one becoming frustrated over your antics is me!

Shinou: What’s wrong? You seem to be quite cranky, my Sage.

Murata: That!

Shinou: Hm?

Murata: I’ll take the opportunity to say this now: I’m Murata Ken.

Shinou: I know. You go by that name now.

Murata: I have no recollection of becoming your Sage, so could you stop calling me that?

Shinou: However, the other Mazoku have taken to calling you ‘Great Sage’, have they not?

Murata: Only as a matter of convenience.

Shinou: Then it’s acceptable for me to refer to you like that as well.

Murata: I’m telling you not to use it so casually.

Shinou: And why not? Shin Makoku is my country. The Sage belongs to me.

Murata: Why are you so insistent on this?* Don’t start a recital on the podium now…

Shinou: I’m rather proficient at song and dance.

Murata: No, I don’t mean it like that— Ah, that’s right. Your skill in the arts is passed down from your mother, wasn’t it.

Shinou: I’m surprised you remembered! As expected of my Sage.

Murata: You’re a persistent king… It’s rather hard to make me angry, but I dislike forgetful, irritating men.

Shinou: Haha, oh, how scary~ You’re always so calm; it’s rare to see you show anger like that.

Murata: Don’t make me repeat myself. I’m not your Great Sage. I’ve lived on Earth for thousands of years. Can you begin to imagine all the times I’ve been reincarnated?

Shinou: But you remember. Everything.

Murata: That’s true. As per your wish, I remember everything. However, I’m Murata Ken. Just a holder of the soul and memories you hold so dear.

Shinou: As I see it, even the holder has value.

Murata: Value…?

Shinou: Yes, as only you understand my true self. Be that as it may, we meet again at last! I wish to have an intimate conversation free of interruptions.

Murata: No thanks, I’ll just stand here.

Shinou: Either way, I don’t mind, but won’t you get tired? Here, sit down next to me.

Murata: Even though I can see you so clearly, you’re not solid…

Shinou: What are you saying? My body withered long ago.

Murata: Of course it did. You’re like a ghost… It’s a rather well-made holograph though, you even have footsteps and feel real to the touch.

Shinou: If you feel the need for footsteps or other trivialities, I can easily create them. I’m at full power while within the temple. Maintaining this form is quite a simple task.

Murata: “Within the temple”, is it.

Shinou: Aside from that, our souls themselves are quite close. It’s not that difficult for you to feel me. Come now, touch me as you please.

Murata: …So, what was it you wanted to talk to me about?

Shinou: Don’t be so touchy! O Sage, gifted with the color of Darkness. Surely we both have many stories to share. Shall I ask the maidens to fetch us some fine wine?

Murata: Ah, sorry… I don’t really have anything to tell you about, and I’m a minor, so I’ll pass on the wine.

Shinou: Mazoku become adults at 16! And even children can hold alcohol.

Murata: Unfortunately, I follow Japan’s rules.

Shinou: You had such an appetite for wine, too… as well as higher tolerance.

Murata: What you refer to is your old acquaintance though. I follow behind my friend who has a policy of forbidding himself anything besides alcohol free beer. Once again, I’ll pass.

Shinou: You’re being quite unsociable…

Murata: I have no reason to be sociable with you.

Shinou: You seem to be quite friendly with our little soukoku maou, smiling and laughing so freely…

Murata: That’s because he’s my best friend! Don’t compare it like that!

Shinou: I don’t like it…

Murata: What?

Shinou: You or that Maou Yuuri.

Murata: Oh? Aren’t you quite fond of Shibuya Yuuri?

Shinou: That’s a convenient misunderstanding you have there.

Murata: Really? That’s a surprise. I thought it was because you liked him so much that you gave him to me as a reward.

Shinou: I never thought you would become so attached to Yuuri. It was a severe miscalculation.

Murata: Hmmm… after hiding such a perfect soul in another world until he matured, as well as granting him such an appearance that would make the other Mazoku fall all over him…?

Shinou: Black hair and eyes is simply my own taste.

Murata: I see.

Shinou: Doesn’t it look so pretty, like the darkness of night?

Murata: -sigh-

Shinou: Intelligent black eyes that seemed to see through all worldly matters…

Murata: You’re… starting to sound an awful lot like Lord von Kliest…

Shinou: However, Yuuri doesn’t seem to be all that sharp.

Murata: Yeah—Oops, I agreed… sorry, Shibuya…

Shinou: I wish I had black eyes too…

Murata: Huh?!

Shinou: I was envious of the Great Sage. He had such unusual black hair and eyes, yet I have such ordinary blond hair and blue eyes…

Murata: Nonono… why is your face glowing so much as you say that? From a Japanese standpoint, those features are much more envious!

Shinou: What odd standards of beauty…

Murata: I could say the same about you! I see… Shinou was a bit of a manic and pervert when it came to the Sage… Thanks to the past generation, the standards of beauty have lowered quite a bit… those Mazoku…

Shinou: Your speech has quite a bit of foreign tango in it. What do you mean by ‘maniac’ and ‘hetchi’?

Murata: Ah, uh, nothing… okay, conversation over…

Shinou: Wait. If you do that, you won’t be able to that ‘cyatchball’.

Murata: It’s ‘Catchball’. Who taught you those words? I have a feeling I know, though…

Shinou: It’s as you think; your dear Maou was the one who brought it up. He likely thought it strange that I, who was supposed to have disappeared, was back here. He’d come sneaking in here to talk about mundane things then leave, looking at me all the while with eyes of an attached puppy dog.

Murata: Hmmm? No matter what you say, you’ve had quite a bit of contact with Shibuya yourself. Saying you don’t like it and all, but when he’s here, you’re head over heels. And have even gotten somewhat close to him.

Shinou: Don’t sulk about it! Unlike you, people warm up to me because of my nature. And there’s nothing wrong with my personality.

Murata: Aren’t you being a bit rude…

Shinou: Well, I perfectly understand why you’ve taken such a liking to Yuuri. He seems to have the strange ability to heal those who are exhausted from a long journey.

Murata: Are you saying I’m a weary traveler?

Shinou: Am I mistaken?

Murata: It pisses me off when I hear that from the very person who asked me to take this journey upon myself.

Shinou: I apologize. But right now, I’m glad you’re here.

Murata: In that case, I’m glad as well: to His Majesty Shinou for introducing me to Shibuya as one of his subjects.

Shinou: So that’s how you mean it… Do you mean to take back the promise you made to me that you would follow me anywhere?

Murata: Murata Ken has no recollection of making such a promise.

Shinou: How cold, my Sage.

Murata: Listen here, old man. Has anyone told you you’ve been forgetting things too much recently?

Shinou: No matter what you say or how many times you’re reborn, you will always be my Great Sage.

Murata: Isn’t it because you keep saying things like that that caused you to mistake Lord Weller for his ancestor, and attach to him the left arm which just so happened to be the key, old man?

Shinou: You’re so mean… and have quite a foul mouth as well.

Murata: Sorry about that… It seems I’m rotten to the core… Well then, I’m leaving now.

Shinou: Why? Are you bored of talking to me?

Murata: Not so much bored as when I talk to you, the conversation just seems to keep going in circles. I can’t keep up with the ramblings of an old man.

Shinou: Instead of doing nothing all day, why don’t you stay here instead?

Murata: Isn’t it comfy enough staying here as it is, being surrounded by cute shrine maidens all the time?

Shinou: There’s nothing good about associating with those girls. They use you, the Sage, as a convenient tool while they’re cleaning after all.

Murata: That’s true… hahaha…

Shinou: What’s so funny?

Murata: It’s just I thought you’re being awfully stoic. This isn’t something I thought you would ever say. Did you snap?

Shinou: Quite possibly. I sure feel quite broken. I’ve become quite a lonely spirit since I was abandoned by you.

Murata: You’re quite a long-lived spirit—even though you’re dead.

Shinou: It’s because I returned here like this. I won’t be here for quite as long this time, though. Until I disappear, won’t you stay by my side? I need you.

Murata: You wanted your Sage to hear those words, right? He would have been quite happy to have heard them, too.

Shinou: Are those words no good anymore?

Murata: Too bad. He died a long time ago. And sorry, but I refuse to become a replacement for him. The only one I need is Yuuri.

Shinou: You’re only putting me aside for what you think you need. Going on about friendship and the like, all you’re trying to do is convince yourself of those words, and create a comfortable place–

Murata: Shut up!

Shinou: What’s wrong? Does it hurt so much to hear the truth?

Murata: You’re… being quite mean…

Shinou: When my favorite is taken away by another, it’s only natural to become frustrated. It’s in our nature.

Murata: I never thought you’d throw around phrases such as that.

Shinou: Of course! I’m quite far off from being a magnanimous person. In other words, my policy is to only do what I feel like doing.

Murata: Hold on! Someone who’s held in such respect by the Mazoku shouldn’t say something like that so carelessly!

Shinou: Even though my body has withered leaving only a ghost, I’m still myself. It’s the fault of those who decide to believe so blindly.

Murata: -sigh- You were always like this…

Shinou: Right?

Murata: Really now… You’re such a troublesome king…

Shinou: At least call it ‘whimsical’.

Murata: Oh man…

Shinou: Take me to a hot spring next time!

Murata: Huh? That’s fine with me… but you get smaller when you leave the temple.

Shinou: It’s convenient to carry me around like that!

Murata: Then how about this… *

Shinou: What’s that?

Murata: You don’t know? It’s…

Shinou: Are you making fun of me?

Murata: Why do you think that? I’m just…
