FX:* birds chirping*

Murata:*puts the books on a table* *sighs* There are quite a few, huh? What do you think Shibuya? I think this is the oldest library we have but...

Yuuri: *cough**cough* I can feel the history in all the dust clouds. What an amazing mountain of books!

Murata: Yeah, just by carrying them I can feel my muscles getting sore.

Yuuri: That's because you don't exercise enough. Ahhh~ at any rate, the library room in the Blood Pledge Castle is imposing, huh?

Conrad:*chuckles* That's right. For you see, here you can find the greatest collection of books in Shin Makoku.

Yuuri: Conrad? Eh? Are there really that many books here?

Wolfram: Of course! *puts his books on the table*

Yuuri: Ah, Wolfram.

Wolfram: A copy of nearly every book that has been written in the country, is stored in the Blood Pledge Castle.

Yuuri: Eh? Is that so?

Wolfram: Don't tell me that someone like you doesn't even know what's inside his own castle?

Yuuri: It's just that, the Blood Pledge Castle is unnecessary big, and has too many rooms, and besides, in my life the library is one of the facilities I visit the least.

Wolfram: What are we going to do with a country's ruler who studies so little?

Murata: Now, now, Lord von Bielefeld. This is because Shibuya is by nature a "noukinzoku"[1] , so please overlook that flaw of his.

Wolfram: What is the meaning of that "Nou kin zoku"[2]?

Conrad: It means "musclebrain type". He's the TYPE who, rather than thinking about something difficult, prefers to act first, right, your Majesty?

Yuuri: Right! That's it, that's it! You really explained it very well, huh?

Wolfram: *exasperated sigh* Damn. I pity the citizens who are ruled by such a brainless king.

Yuuri: Shoot, you don't need to go that far , right? Ah, but you know? Even though there are so many books in here, isn't it kind of a waste that not even one percent of the people can look at them? Wouldn't it be best if this library was opened to the general public?

Gwendal: Unless there's a ceremony we cannot allow random outsiders to step foot inside the castle.

Wolfram: Older brother.

Conrad: Gwen.

Gwendal: In addition, the national treasure room also has many books. We can't recklessly allow guests here. Just think about it. Why are we here, doing this?

Yuuri: Eh? That's because we have to disinfect to prevent bugs in the book.

Gwendal: And the reason why we can't ask the servants to do it, is because there are awfully valuable books in here.

Yuuri: Ah, yes. You're right.

Murata: Well, there's that and the fact that I wanted to find out what kind of documents were here, you know?

Yuuri: Ah, that's right. Because you were the soukoku ranger called Daikenja, right?

Wolfram: You're what one could call a 'living witness' of the time when these old books where written.

Murata: Hmm.... but these history books are post-foundation and it seems there are a lot of things missing here. It won't be enough to find out the truth, you know?

Conrad: Is that so?

Murata: Mhm. Well, as for history goes, it's the same no matter where you go. There's a good reason why the truth is not made public, you know? For authorities, anything that's inconvenient can be 'blamed on the rain'.

Yuuri: Fuaa! Those remarks are more powerful coming from someone who has experience in helping rulers.

FX:*door opens*

Cherie: Your Majesty! Your Highness! I found you!

Yuuri/Murata: Cherie-sama!

Wolfram: Mother!?

Conrad: Why are you here?

Cherie: I came back this morning, because Fanfan was busy with his job. Our sea trips are always interrupted, ne?

Gwendal: Tsk. You're still mingling with that man?

Cherie: Oh, Gwen~! My cute honey-chan! You're in a bad mood, because I'm always getting along with gentlemen, ne?

Gwendal: No, that's not...

Cherie: But don't worry. I love you kids so, so, so, sooooooo much that I could eat you.

Conrad: Yes, of course we know that.

Cherie: That makes me happy. Oh! You have a lot of old books lined up, ne?

Murata: We're on insect prevention duty!

Cherie: Is that so? Ah, this book brings back memories! I really like it. Back when I became a maou and I had just arrived to this castle, it was really good to kill some time.

Yuuri: Eh? Let's see, what does it say?

Conrad: "Illustrated Scroll of the Creation of Shin Makoku". It seems to be a book with summarized information about the Shinou's mandate and the creation of the country.

Gwendal: It's a book with quite a few illustrations, huh?

Cherie: Yes. There are a lot of images of heroes who lived a long time ago. How beautiful!

Wolfram: Ah... That's because mother likes good looking gentlemen...

Yuuri: Eh? It looks way more realistic than the children's book Greta and I were reading a while back. Look, over here. They look exactly like the portraits of the Shinou and Daikenja that hang on the castle's walls.

Murata: Hmm. This painting really captured our features well, huh? *turns page* As expected there's no information left that identifies the combination of keys and boxes though...*turns page* Ah! Look at this!

Yuuri: Ah? Eh?

Gwendal: "Lawrence Weller"[3]. This is the Weller family ancestor. I see, your father looked... or actually both you and your father look a lot like him, Conrad.

Conrad: Is that so? Ah! Look, this one is Siegbert Voltaire. Gwendal's ancestor perhaps? Haha... As expected you look like him too.

Cherie: That's true! Now that I'm looking at this again, you really look like him. Ah! Which means, that perhaps it is the fault of the illustrations in this book that I fell in love with your fathers!

Wolfram: Eh? For such a simple reason?

Cherie:*laughs* I'm kidding! At the very least, as far as Gwen's father goes, I first went out with him for his true intentions.

Yuuri: Huuuuh.... Eh? Look at this, Wolfram. Isn't this your ancestor?

Murata: Ah! Rufus Bielefeld! Ah, that brings back memories!

Conrad: Other than his hair color being different, he looks exactly like Wolf.

Wolfram: Rufus?

Yuuri: Eh...? Ah? This person seems to be fighting while manipulating a huge fireball. It seems that, just like Wolf, his specialty was fire majutsu.

Gwendal: Huh? Wolfram's fire majutsu was inherited from mother's side.

Cherie: That's right. This child's father, didn't possess any special attack-majutsu. The von Bielefeld family members are good, if anything, at manipulating earth elements, ne?

Yuuri: I see. Then, that means that thanks to Cherie-sama, Wolf has by chance, the same majutsu as his ancestor, right?

Conrad: Is that so, your Highness?

Murata: Why do you ask me that, Lord Weller?

Conrad: Eh? Ah... It's because you're the only living witness of that time.

Murata: If we're talking about living witnesses, wouldn't that be the Shinou who's in the Shinou's Mausoleum?

Yuuri: No, that person is not alive. By the way, you know? When I asked him a question about something I wanted to know he said: "Lately, because of my age, I can't remember a lot", he's really stingy that guy!

Murata: Shibuya, after this and that you're getting along with him, right?

Yuuri: But it's interesting about Wolf, right? If his eyes were blue, he'd look exactly like the Shinou.

Wolfram: That doesn't make me happy in the least[4].

Cherie: Oh! But Majesty Yuuri, Wolf inherited his green eyes and golden hair from me.

Yuuri: Anyone can tell that just by looking at you. Eh? But could it be, Cherie-sama, that the von Spitzberg family members are actually descendants of the Shinou?

Cherie: Absolutely not! There currently isn't anyone among the mazoku that carries the blood of the Shinou. Since his Majesty Shinou was worried about his terrible power and the effects of his maryoku, he said he would leave no descendents, no matter what.

Yuuri: Eh? Then the Shinou didn't have a wife or kids?

Cherie: Yes, I believe that's correct.

Conrad: At the very least, there are no records left in the history books.

Gwendal: Other people say, that the Shinou picked his most trusted Daikenja as his partner(spouse) for life.

Yuuri: Eh? Really?

Murata: No, that's not true.

Conrad: Is it true, your Highness?

Murata: Why are you asking me again, Lord Weller?

Conrad: Eh? No, I...

Murata: In any case, even though now he lives a laid back life in retirement, during the time of the creation of the country, the Shinou was a huge ladies' man.

Yuuri: Is that so?

Cherie: Nya! How lovely! He was someone who risked his life, he must have been a 'love hunter', right?

Wolfram: Mother, that is somewhat ...

Gwendal: Mother in your case, I think it's best if you don't continue pressing on the matter...

Cherie: *pout* What's with that boring reaction? My children are so unromantic.

Conrad: Mother, your radiance so far while fighting against those who stand in the way of love, and getting yourself into trouble, worry us so much we can't take it. Uhm... I mean, we feel that, as your children.

Cherie:*chuckles* You are the only one who knows which words to use. You're such a good boy, Conrad. *kisses him*

Yuuri: I don't know what to think about this mother-child relationship... AH! Right, but indeed the Shinou must have been very popular. Ah! Honestly, I'm envious...

Murata: What are you talking about? Because of that, his close associates ended up having to deal with all sorts of hardships.

Yuuri: But you know? If he was so popular, it wouldn't be strange if he had one or two descendants with the people he had fun with.

Wolfram: Indeed. Even this henachoko(rookie) Yuuri has one.

Yuuri: What are you talking about? Greta's circumstances are different, okay?

Cherie:*giggles* A secret love that was hidden from the history books. Ah! And then, the descendant of love was secretly nurtured. How wonderful~!

Gwendal: If that were true, it would be a major historic discovery for the mazoku.

Yuuri: All right! Then I'll go to the Shinou's Mausoleum, and ask the actual person to tell me what happened!

Murata: *sigh* If it's something inconvenient for him, he'll pretend that he has forgotten about it. Because he's a man who likes to play dumb. If you were to ask him, I don't know if you'd get an actual answer or not, you know?

References[edit]

  1. Sorry it's difficult to come up with a proper acronym in English so I'm using the word in Japanese, noukinzoku ( 脳筋族), which is an acronym of 'noumisokinnikuzoku' (脳味噌筋肉族) , which means muscle brain type.
  2. Wolfram understood something like "brain golden tribe", which of course is the opposite of what the acronym actually means.
  3. It seems that this drama cd, despite being written by Takabayashi-sensei, is not novel-canon? Otherwise Conrad's ancestor should be called Berard, not Weller.
  4. I don't know why Wolf's upset.
