09. In the middle of the mines, a monster screams in the name of love

Conrad: Nicola has taken refuge in a safe place...

Wolfram: Yes.

Conrad: Yet, for a mining area where only women work, the security sure is tight.

Wolfram: Of course. That's because for humans, the houseki mines are more valuable than gold mines.

Conrad: Right? Wolf, you've been looking sickly for a while now. Because of your powerful maryoku, the houryoku in the soil, has been hurting you, right? If it's too difficult, you should leave now. Once the battle begins, there might not be time for you to take cover.

Wolfram: Don't underestimate me! I can fight just fine! You better just think about helping Yuuri.

Conrad: Of course I do. It is a retainer's duty to think first about their lord's safety, right? *chuckles* Alright, let's make sure we're on the same page. Wolfram: The ground is rising!

Conrad: Something's coming out...

Ue-sama: "Corporal punishments, violence, heinous treatment. To bring people here under false charges, and to even bury innocent children! That kind of behavior is inhumane."

Wolfram: What are those monsters? It looks like they're melting as they walk!

Conrad: Tch. They're rotting zombies... they're fast, aren't they?

Wolfram: Eh? I don't think they're rotting. They're mud puppets. Nonetheless those monsters sure are vulgar! Why must Yuuri's majutsu always be so messy?

Ue-sama: It is not my intention to destroy things and take lives, but I have no choice. I will kill you! Justice!

Gwendal: Cut it out!

FX: *horse neighs*

Gwendal: What are you doing?

FX: *Gwendal grabs Ue-sama*

Ue-sama: How rude. It's unforgiveable that you touch me!

Gwendal: Fool! Return these monstruous dolls that are messing around back to the ground. How many lives will it take to satisfy you? Eh!?

Ue-sama: Who are thou?

Gwendal: I'm your retainer, Maou Yuuri!

Ue-sama: Hm. Is this how you treat your master?

Gwendal: Yes. My king told me to stop him.

Ue-sama: What did you say?

Gwendal: He said "If I'm taking the wrong path, if I'm doing something wrong, then you have to stop me". You! Look around! Is this what you really want? You're blowing up helpless people and killing them!

Ue-sama: Ugh.

Gwendal: Open your eyes, Yuuri!

Ue-sama: I admire the sacrifice in your attempt to do what's right. Very well. Because of your devotion, I will withdraw for now.

FX: *explosion*

Yuuri: Ah...

FX: *running*

Wolfram: Yuuri!

Conrad: Your Majesty!

Wolfram: Are you alright, Yuuri?!

Conrad: Gwen, put his majesty down somewhere...

Gwendal: Ugh.. ah...*puts him down* Hey, get a hold of yourself!

Wolfram: Yuuri!

Conrad: Yuuri!

(monologue) Yuuri: Since the mateki was said to be a Mazoku treasure, I thought it would be some amazing instrument, but it ended up looking just like an English flute. As we were taking the women from the houseki mines to the capital they suddenly told us they wanted to come with us to Shin Makoku, and voluntarily crossed the desert with us. (end of the monologue)

Conrad: Is it really okay? To not sleep by Wolfram's side?

Yuuri: It's alright. I prefer to be riding here with you.

Conrad: I'm honored but, since you've finally found out he's safe, you should be a little bit happier about your reunion with your fiancé.

Yuuri: Ehh... are you kidding? Whenever he's in high spirits, he's always calling me "cheater" or "traitor". He's always spitting stupid stuff like that. I can't take it...

Conrad: *laughs* I see.

Yuuri: But anyway, tell me. Uhm... is he okay?

Conrad: Ah, Gwendal you mean? You don't need to worry. Look, he's riding the horse just fine, right? It's alright. He's strong.

Yuuri: Yes. I can't remember at all what happened, but when I snapped at the mines, Gwendal stopped me, right?

Conrad: *laughs*

Yuuri: If Gwendal were to hear this he might punch me but, I feel that this time around, I've gained something.

Conrad: *chuckles* We've never had much time to talk.

But this doesn't just apply to friends and family. For example, it can work with humans and mazoku too. They're frightened, don't like each other, and are always complaining, but if both sides try a little bit harder, a dialogue can be established, right?

Conrad: Yuuri... Yes, you're right. It's just as you say.

(monologue) Yuuri: After that, I used the mateki and brought a storm to the desert, which got in the way of our pursuers. Then for some reason we met a Sandbear who was in a newly-wed-mode, guided by Ryan, the soldier, who had taken refuge in the nest of the Sandbear family. But, you know? I couldn't believe that he was so head-over-heels in love with that scary, ferocious Sandbear. Could it be that Ryan also had carnal knowledge of him?

Well, anyway! After that, the trip was pleasant. And we could take our time to safely arrive to Shin Makoku.
