Sword Art Online (ソードアート・オンライン) is a light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Abec.

Story Synopsis
Escape is impossible until it's cleared, a game over would mean an actual "death"―.
Without knowing the "truth" of the mysterious next generation MMO 'SwordArt Online(SAO)', approximately ten thousand users logged in together, opening the curtains to this cruel death battle.
Participating alone in SAO, protagonist Kirito has promptly accepted the "truth" of this MMO.
And, at the stage of the game, being a gigantic floating castle, 'Aincrad'; he distinguished himself as a solo player, without a party.
Aiming for the condition to clear the game, which is to reach the highest floor; the one continuing alone with the severe risk was Kirito.
Because of a pushy invitation from a rapier expert female warrior, Asuna; he formed a combination with her.
That encounter brought about an opportunity to call out to the fated Kirito―.
The legendary novel made appearance with browsing numbers exceeding 6.5 million page views recorded at the personal website.
