Re: "that she had to become Natsume's support." I think the wording of this off. Yes 'support' can be used as a noun but it is not used to describe something in the context of a close friendship. The connotations of the word as a noun implies an emotional separation between the parties or a one sided relationship.I don't believe that the idea conveyed by the sentence is phrased using those words in English literature. I believe that the context is that she wants to help Natsume get through the fact that her home was burned down. In that sense, 'support' makes sense. The corresponding fragment of that sentence is '必须要成为夏目的支柱' in Chinese, with the key word being '支柱'. Translated literally, this is 'pillar' or 'mainstay'. Of course, this is the once-translated Chinese version, so the Japanese version may contain something different. Please correct me if you're looking at the Japanese version.
