On an autumn afternoon with a clear sky, on a luxurious hospital bed of a single-patient ward, Genma is leisurely feeling sleepy.
Maybe because it has been a long time since he had a break like this, thus he let his guard down, when he realized it, he felt that someone’s presence is standing beside his bed, Genma quickly hides his startled mind, and opens his eyes with a very solemn expression.

Maybe because it has been such a long time since he last took a break, Genma lets his guard down. As he came to this realization, he noticed a presence standing beside his bed. Quickly hiding his startled frame of mind, he opens his eyes with a solemn expression.
“Hi!”

“Yo!”
The intruder bends his lips to smile, as if saying.. “You finally noticed?”

His grown up son appears before his eyes, the inferiority that made Kazuma act according to Genma’s mood four years ago, is long gone, Kazuma uses a very natural way to look straight into Genma’s eyes.

His grown-up son appears before his eyes. There is no sign of the inferiority that caused Kazuma to humor Genma's mood four years ago, and Kazuma calmly meets Genma's gaze.
“------ So it is Kazuma.”

“Everything is over.
+
“Kazuma, is it?

  +
“Everything's finished.”
A simple and clear report, but there is no better way to put it.

A crisp, concise report, there is no better way to put it.
“Is that so------ Sorry for the trouble.”

  +
“Is that so? I apologize for the trouble we've caused.”
“Yeah, reflect on it.”

  +
“Seriously. Reflect on it.”
Even though he sounds very arrogant, but unbelievably, Genma does not mind, he even feels comfortable at Kazuma’s calm, natural and equivalent attitude.

Unbelievably, Genma does not mind his arrogant, disrespectful tone. He even feels comfortable with Kazuma's new calm, equivalent attitude.

Kazuma ignores his fathers words, and walks to the window on his own, and sits at the window frame, and takes out a cigarette slowly.

Kazuma ignores his father's words. Walking to the window, he sits by the window frame, and slowly pulls out a cigarette.
“The hospital ward does not allow smoking.”

  +
“This hospital does not allow smoking.”
“------ I know!”

  +
“...I know!” he replies, lighting the cigarette.
He says as he lights the cigarette, they are still a pair of father and son that does not match in their speech.

  +
They are still a pair of father and son incapable of normal conversation.
They remain silent for a while, Kazuma looks at the scenery outside, while Genma focuses on the ceiling.

  +
The silence continues for a while. Kazuma stares at the scenery outside the window, while Genma focuses on the ceiling.
“Do you…… still hate Miyuki?”

  +
"Miyuki...do you resent her?”
Breaking the silence, Genma threw out this question first. Kazuma places his eyes on his father who continues to lift his head to stare at the ceiling.

  +
Ending the silence, Genma speaks first. Kazuma places his eyes on his father, who stubbornly continues to stare at the ceiling.
“You know all about it?”

  +
“You knew?”
This is not a tone that is forcing a reply, as if he wants to observe Genma’s reaction, sounding like a question that is not related to him.

  +
This is not a condemnation. Kazuma replies as though it does not concern him, his interest apparently lies in Genma's reaction.
“No, yesterday the clan chief came to visit, I asked a little about it then.

  +
  +
"No. Yesterday the Soushu came to visit. I asked about it then."

“Yesterday?”

“Yesterday?”

From the visiting hours of the hospital, it should be before defeating Ryuya------ Or even when they are still on their way there. Whether it is because he trusts Kazuma and gang, or he judges that they are no longer in Tokyo. No matter what, his attitude is impressive.
+
Given the hospital's visiting hours, that would have been before Ryuuya's defeat, or maybe even when they were still on the way there. Whether it was because he trusted them, or because they were no longer in Tokyo; at any rate, it was quite bold of him.

“------I don’t hate her, in recent years, there are a lot of parents that do not love their children! Even though that woman does not love me, but I don’t recall ever liking that woman either, so it is the same for us both I guess!”
+
"I don't resent her. Recently, many parents don't love their children. Though she doesn't love me, I don't recall liking her either, so I guess we're the same."

He says so easily, the truth does not matter now anymore anyway. “The woman who gave birth to him”------ That is all he knows about Miyuki, nothing more, nothing less.
+
He says this smoothly; the truth does not matter anymore anyway. "The woman who gave birth to me," that is what he thinks of Miyuki. Nothing more, nothing less.

“Is that so…… In that case, I shall ask you under this pretext, are you willingly to come back to this home------?
+
"Is that so...In that case, allow me to ask. Given what you said, would you be willing to return home?"

“Ah? It is really wilful of you to ask that now don’t you think, old man?
+
"Oh? Pretty willful of you to ask that now, isn't it, oyaji?"

Kazuma feels very disappointed, he should not be that kind of man that changes his mind and wants to make up just because his abandoned son is now very capable------
+
Kazuma feels disappointed. Genma should not be the kind of man to change his mind and hope to make up simply because his abandoned son is now very capable.

“I am not asking you to be a Jutsushi for the Kannagi, but I hope that you will take up the identity of my son, and once again bear the Kannagi name. If saying this would make you happy, I am even willing to kneel down to apologise to you, so, come back!”
+
"I am not asking you to return as a jutsushi for the Kannagi. I hope that you will return as my son, and once more bear the Kannagi name. If you want, I am willing to kneel in apology. So come back."

Genma stubbornly looks at the ceiling and says this.
+
Genma's eyes never move from the ceiling as he says this.

Kazuma dumbly opens his mouth, dropping his cigarette onto the floor, he subconsciously steps on it to extinguish the flame.
+
Kazuma's jaw drops, and his cigarette falls onto the floor. He subconsciously steps on it to extinguish the flame.

This is just way beyond his expectations, or you can say he is shocked, that stubborn father of his, is actually willingly to give in to such an extent------
+
It is plain to see that this is far beyond his expectations. He is shocked - that unyielding father of his is actually willing to give in to such an extent.

Frankly speaking, he is tempted. But------
+
To be quite honest, he is tempted. But...

“……I cannot do that.”

“……I cannot do that.”

To Kazuma, this is the only way he can reply.
+
For Kazuma, this is the only possible answer.

“I do not hate you, old man, or that woman. But, I just cannot do it.
+
"I don't hate you, Oyaji, nor that woman. Nevertheless, I can't do it. Four years ago I ran. I abandoned everything, including the me back then."

  +
"If I was still the same little kid I was then, then maybe it would be fine, but not now. Things that I will not abandon and things that I must not abandon - there are too many now. I cannot simply start over again."
Four years ago I ran away, and I abandoned everything------ Including the me back then.

  +
The one who made the decision to bear these things under the name of Kazuma Yagami, to walk this path no matter how red the road, is himself. To pretend they never happened cannot be done, to forget they happened cannot be done, because these things will never allow him to rely on the protection of others.
That is because I am still just a little kid then, maybe that is still acceptable, but not now. Things that I cannot abandon, and things that I must not abandon, there is too many now, there is no way to start over all over again.”

  +
“That's how it is. Thank you for your good intentions,” he says easily, lighting up a new cigarette.
The one who made the decision to bear everything in the name of Kazuma Yagami, no matter what he gain or lose, to walk down the road with this name is himself.

  +
“Is that so?”
Unable to pretend all these never happened, unable to forget all, because all these will not allow him to go back under the protection of others.

  +
Unable to catch any sign of sorrow, Genma nods his head once, and silence visits them once more. Only, this time, it is a tranquil silence, rather than the uncomfortable silence from earlier.
“That is it, thanks for your good intentions.”

  +
Even if he does not wish to return to the Kannagi, Kazuma still calls Genma "Oyaji" as usual, acknowledging his presence. Despite what he may say, he has not completely let go of his past.
He says easily, lighting up a new cigarette once again.

  +
These kinds of feelings are conveyed not through words, a fact the two of them know very well.
“------Is that so?”

  +
It is not the one-sided relationship of a father protecting his son, but one of mutual respect - a relationship based on the pretext that they are equals.
Unable to see any sign of sorrow, Genma nods his head, silence visits them once more, but this time, it is a period of silence that makes one feel comfortable, unlike the unbearable atmosphere earlier.

  +
Compared to relationships founded on affection and emotion, ones built on warmth, this type of relationship suits the two better.
Even if he refused to return to the Kannagi family, Kazuma still calls Genma “old man” as usual, accepting his existence, he has not completely let go of everything in the past.

  +
“Then, I shall take my leave.”
That kind of emotions that is not conveyed through words, both of them knows very well.

  +
After silently finishing his second cigarette, Kazuma stands.
That is not a one-sided relationship of a father protecting his son, but both of them recognising each other as a man, forming a relationship on the pretext that they are both equal.

  +
“What're your plans?”
Compared to those built on love and emotions, one with only warm existing, this kind of relationship suits the two of them more.

  +
"Well, staying in Japan for the moment might not be too bad. After all, I had the pleasure of enjoying such an exciting development as soon as I got back."
“So, I shall be going now.”

After finishing his second cigarette silently, Kazuma stands up.

“What do you intend to do from now on?”

“About that, maybe staying in Japan for the moment is not a bad idea. After all, I had the pleasure of enjoying such an exciting event the moment I came back to Japan.”

“Is that so?”

“Is that so?”

A short response. Still as thick-skinned, but it is not bad once you get used to it, but, it is common to want to change someone’s attitude.
+
A short response. As brazen as ever, an attitude he had become accustomed to. Nevertheless, it is human nature to desire to change others.

“Good bye! You are pretty old already, don’t push yourself too hard.”
+
“Cya then! You're old already, so don't push yourself too hard.”

After leaving this taunting sentence, Kazuma disappears from the window located on the tenth storey.
+
Leaving with this taunting remark, Kazuma disappears out the tenth story window.

“Hmph, that kid……”

“Hmph, that kid……”

Watching the curtains sway with the wind, Genma gumbles.
+
Watching the curtains sway in the wind, Genma grumbles.
  +
  +
Originally, a reprimand might have been in mind, but the smile on his mouth brings an end to any such thoughts. Without realizing it, his tone mirrors that of Juugo's "this stubborn daughter."
  +
  +
A cold breeze blows in from the open window. Though it's comfortable for the moment, it's likely to get cold very soon.

  +
"Opening the window, but not closing it. That idiot."
His intention may be to scold him, but the smile by his mouth now totally ruins such an intention. Without realising it himself, his tone is just the same as Jugo’s “this stubborn daughter……” [From chapter 2 end of part 1, the dots appeared in a different location, don’t ask me why] .

  +
Still unable to stand on his own, Genma scolds Kazuma as he decides whether to endure the cold wind until he catches cold, or to give in and summon a nurse.
The cold wind blows in from the open window. Even though it is very comfortable now, but his body is likely to feel cold very soon!

“Opening that window and not closing it, damn kid.”

Still unable to stand up by himself, Genma scolds Kazuma as he ponders in his heart whether to bear the cold wind until he catches a cold, or to give up and press the bell for a nurse.

  +
Looking up at his father's window, Kazuma reveals an impish smile.

  +
"Try not to catch a cold, Oyaji."

  +
With that, he turns his back to the hospital, and walks away without a destination in mind. This is how it's always been, and this is how it always will be.
Looking up at the window of the tenth storey, Kazuma shows a smile with bad intentions.

  +
(For the time being, why don't I look for somewhere to stay.)
“Don’t catch a cold, old man.”

  +
The wind blows at the man's back. Meaningfully humming, he takes lively steps and slowly disappears.
After saying that, he turns his back against the hospital and walks out, with no intended purpose, that is how it has been since the past, and that shall be how it will be from now on.

(Let’s just find a house to stay in first!)

Epilogue[edit]

On an autumn afternoon with a clear sky, on a luxurious hospital bed of a single-patient ward, Genma is leisurely feeling sleepy.

Maybe because it has been such a long time since he last took a break, Genma lets his guard down. As he came to this realization, he noticed a presence standing beside his bed. Quickly hiding his startled frame of mind, he opens his eyes with a solemn expression.

“Yo!”

The intruder bends his lips in a smile, as if to say, "You finally noticed?"

His grown-up son appears before his eyes. There is no sign of the inferiority that caused Kazuma to humor Genma's mood four years ago, and Kazuma calmly meets Genma's gaze.

A crisp, concise report, there is no better way to put it.

“Is that so? I apologize for the trouble we've caused.”

“Seriously. Reflect on it.”

Unbelievably, Genma does not mind his arrogant, disrespectful tone. He even feels comfortable with Kazuma's new calm, equivalent attitude.

Kazuma ignores his father's words. Walking to the window, he sits by the window frame, and slowly pulls out a cigarette.

“This hospital does not allow smoking.”

“...I know!” he replies, lighting the cigarette.

They are still a pair of father and son incapable of normal conversation.
