1. Are you working on the light novels or the web novels? What's the difference?

I'm working from the Chinese translations of the light novels. The web novels were published before the light novels, but the light novels contain more content in terms of character development and extra scenes. In addition, some lines in the web novels were toned down in the light novels. (And there's more fanservice in the light novels.)

2. Hey, dude, the chapters are out of order! Why did you translate Chapter Y before Chapter X?

Uh, probably some far distant time in the future. (read: never) The Afterwords and the Late Great Favorite bear no impact on the story itself. They are merely the author's thoughts as each novel comes to a close. Hence why their priority is very, very low.

3. Hey, dude, the chapters are out of order! Why did you translate Chapter 9 before Chapter 8?

Simply put, because someone signed up to do Chapter X before I did. Translators work at different speeds, so some chapters may come out ahead of the others. Everyone works at their own pace, so give them some time.

If I got a dollar every time someone asked me this, I would be able to do this for a living. Click on the User Page tab on the top left corner and you will find my progression on the latest chapter as well as a rough estimate on when the chapter will be complete. And, no, it has been scientifically proven that asking me to work faster/harder does not improve translation speed. I am working off of PST in California, so do take that into account when looking for the new chapter on my update days.

I don't have the power to actually grant that, since I am not the project leader for MKnR, larenthian is. If you are interested in joining the project, drop by the Feedback Thread to let larenthian and Seitsuki know. Following that, inscribe your name onto the Registration page next to which chapter you would like to work on. You will have to hunt down your own copy of the RAWs, I'm afraid.

Hey Dreyakis sorry to ask you, so soon after you taking up Tenkyou, but did you have permission to translate from Veracitea? i though that Veracitea wanted to work on this project alone.

:Well you should ask Veracitea just in case though, since sometime ago there also a translator who wanted to work on this project but refused by Veracitea, though if there are more translator it'll be great, much more release yo! :D
I just want to let you know, Dreyakis, I highly enjoy your translation. I've spent quite a bit of time as an editor for various fan translation groups (never for light novels though) and even those projects could cause a man's brain to explode. Translation is hard work and you are doing the best job I have seen on Baka-Tsuki. It is a pleasure to read your translated text, doubly so because the novels themselves are excellent. The novels have an addictive neutrality to them, and I am very happy that you are translating them for an entirely new section of the world to enjoy. ~BakaGrappler

Hello, Kanziel here. I am a new member and new to all this, but I hope to help in translating this great work. I am bilingual in Chinese and English. I hope you can teach me the basic and let me help you with translating Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei. Cheers~ --Kanziel (talk) 16:01, 1 October 2012 (CDT)

You don't need to worry about that, Drey and Anon. I've been corresponding with Vera since day 1 via email. I was the one who invited her to work on this project in the first place. A few months back, I already talked to her about the possibility of a few translators joining, myself included, and she acknowledged it. Here's snap of our conversation:

Welcome, pull up a chair, here be dragons. Check in at the Feedback Thread on the MKnR main page and let Larenthian and Seitsuki know that you're in. I just started a few months ago, so I don't have much in terms of seniority. Make sure to register for the chapters you plan to work on as well. First time commenting on bakaupdates, so not sure if this is the correct way, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for your work! I absolutely love this series. I've reread it 5x now eagerly waiting for my next hit of ecstasy! I actually created a log in just to voice my utmost gratitude to you and all the hard workers that work on the Mahouka series! I truly hope this series becomes an anime, but at the same time I know it'll never be as glorious as the LN! You work so quickly and your translations are top notch! I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say thank you, and we look forward to future releases! -Vudoodude

My favorite thing about your translations is your keeping us informed of where you are and when we can expect the next chapter. It gives purpose to my checking three times a day to see if a new chapter is out. Love your work - Dracohall

Hello, this is Vera! I'm sorry that I'm late to this conversation (I hadn't realized that you had commented on my page a couple months ago.) I really would appreciate the help in translating Alderamin. I'm currently finishing up Volume 2 Chapter 2, which I'll have out hopefully by next week. If you are still interested in translating, can I ask you to start from Volume 2 Chapter 3? I'll start from Chapter 4 to give myself more time, because I'm expecting to be quite busy over the next couple of months. I look forward to working with you! And the next time I don't respond within a week, please contact me a second time because chances are the message somehow didn't reach me the first time.
Hello I am new to Baka-Tsuki and I have a couple questions that you can help me with. (Sorry if this is in the wrong place to put it, but I am new and I don't know anywhere else to put it.)

I want to help with translating novels on this wiki, but at the registration page of a project it just shows the chapters and the translators who translated it and I can't find anything that could help me. And if I do register to translate a chapter where can I find or get a raw version of the chapter to translate or do they provide you with one. Currently now I am in my third year of Japanese at a highschool standard and I am wondering if this enough to actually start translating chapters. I can understand Japanese sentence structure/grammar, hiragana, katakana like only 20 kanjis. Thank you in advance for answering. :) - TheWierdSaying

Hello, Dreyakis!! I just want to know, are you still translating or abandoned it? Well, if you abandoned it, then i will try to get some help from other translator. Anyway, thanks from your translation! *Bow --RozenMaiden

Larenthian is the project leader for Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, so I don't have the final say on who does what. (Larenthian is on vacation until next year, but may poke in from time to time.) If you are interested in joining the project, go ahead and check in on the Feedback thread that is linked on the main Mahouka page. The Registration link is only to let the translators know who is doing what. Unfortunately, you will have to hunt down a copy of the RAWs yourself, as we don't have a handy supply cache anywhere (not that I know of). Questions and Answers[edit]

Simply put, because someone signed up to do Chapter X before I did. Translators work at different speeds, so some chapters may come out ahead of the others. Everyone works at their own pace, so give them some time.

3. So when's your next chapter coming out?

If I got a dollar every time someone asked me this, I would be able to do this for a living. Click on the User Page tab on the top left corner and you will find my progression on the latest chapter as well as a rough estimate on when the chapter will be complete. And, no, it has been scientifically proven that asking me to work faster/harder does not improve translation speed. I am working off of PST in California, so do take that into account when looking for the new chapter on my update days.

4. Are you going to translate all the volumes?

Until otherwise stated, yes.

5. I got the chapter summaries from somewhere else, may I post them in the forums?

Please don't. Last I heard, the chapter summaries flying everywhere absolutely killed all motivation for the translators. So...... Please don't. Please.

6. I have more questions that you haven't answered here!

Drop me a line in the comments section below. If I can't answer it, go ahead and take it to the Feedback Thread on the forums.
