I'm working from the Chinese translations of the light novels. The web novels were published before the light novels, but the light novels contain more content in terms of character development and extra scenes. In addition, some lines in the web novels were toned down in the light novels. (And there's more fanservice in the light novels.)

2. When are you going to translate the Afterwords or The Late Great Favorite?

Uh, probably some far distant time in the future. (read: never) The Afterwords and the Late Great Favorite bear no impact on the story itself. They are merely the author's thoughts as each novel comes to a close. Hence why their priority is very, very low.

Simply put, because someone signed up to do Chapter X before I did. Translators work at different speeds, so some chapters may come out ahead of the others. Everyone works at their own pace, so give them some time.

If I got a dollar every time someone asked me this, I would be able to do this for a living. Click on the User Page tab on the top left corner and you will find my progression on the latest chapter as well as a rough estimate on when the chapter will be complete. And, no, it has been scientifically proven that asking me to work faster/harder does not improve translation speed. I am working off of PST in California, so do take that into account when looking for the new chapter on my update days.

Until otherwise stated, yes. Volume 5 may get delayed though, since it is a collection of side stories rather than advancing the main plot. We'll see what happens after the Nine Schools Competition.

If you are interested in joining the project, drop by the Feedback Thread to let larenthian and Seitsuki know. Following that, inscribe your name onto the Registration page next to which chapter you would like to work on. Thanks a lot for 5th chapter. And i also got a question, on the Mahouka page on facebook there's something called Double Act 7 which is set in the second year, can you tell something more about it and does it come as a novel or in a magazine. Again thank's a lot for 5th chapter. --Silver Horn (talk) 04:28, 16 January 2013 (CST)

Double 7 is in Dengeki Bunko or whatever that magazine is. So far, the first 2 segments (I guess chapters 0-6) have been released, and it is 2nd year as you say. It's an unedited portion and "spoiler free," so it's more akin to the web novels. It would take place after Web Arc 6, of course. --EnigmaticAxiom (talk) 05:15, 16 January 2013 (CST)

Awesome job Dreyakis, its getting exciting with each chapter release. however, in my personal opinion, i'm not that hyped about the story spanning over two volumes. In the previous arcs i felt the transition to the next volume didn't go over so well, hell i'm still lamenting about the enrollment arc. that being said the author did improve with the nine-schools arc. maybe the author will surprise us this time. great story anyways. share your thoughts. Keisanichi (talk)

I had the feeling that he took his time with this chapter. But that is kinda good, because sometimes i get the bad feeling that he works to much for us and even then he is still so fast that you can by no means complain (still one of the fastest translators I seen till now) (not that we have a right to complain anyway).

hey just 1 question please dont feel offended , just wondering, that are you going to fully translate the whole series in future as per now ?

thanks (kakaroet)

If you read the FAQ section by Dreyakis at the top of this page (#5) you'll see the answer is yes. --Cthaeh (talk) 08:59, 31 January 2013 (CST)

Please Dreyakis, update Chapter 7, where i live it's already 4th october ! I want to read it and it's killing me :p.(the end in Expressing Gratitude)meintos

^Please don't start harassing him. He has no obligation to translate and has been doing a phenomenal job. Most people don't even post estimates on when they'll finish but he does to help us. We all want to read the chapter and we all are probably thinking the same as you but asking, putting pressure on, or otherwise demanding anything out of him doesn't help the process (it may even act as a demotivate). He's a real person and things come up. --Nuralataion (talk) 24:25, 16 January 2013 (CST)

over 200 pages in 4 days, who the heck is able to translate and type over 200 pages of text in 4 days? A god, that's who. Has it been made clear how awesome you are, Dreyakis? --PrairieEagle (talk)

Just so you know, it wasn't 200 pages in 4 days (well, it's possible he did, but that's besides the point). The ###/### is the page he is currently on compared to the page the chapter ends. Still, his pace is quite quick, and yes, he clearly is quite awesome. --EnigmaticAxiom (talk) 14:14 22, January 2013 (CST)

:As Enigmatic surmised, I'm starting on page 220 out of 253, where the chapter ends. Trying to do 200 pages in 4 days would be pushing it even for me. I roughly put out 15 pages/day on most days, with a modest spike in production on my days off. Dreyakis (talk) 23:08, 22 January 2013 (CST)

Indeed. It's difficult not to appreciate just how fast and capable both Drey and zzhk are. Even given a masterful command of both English and Chinese, there's a lot of cross-referencing that has to happen when you're not translating straight from the Japanese text. The fact that they're both efficient and consistent is just staggering. <br />

On a different note, Drey, judging from your language ability and the fact that you hail from the ever-glorious Cali, I'm guessing you're an ABC. How is it you managed such proficiency in both English and Chinese? --Hiyono (talk) 16:05, 22 January 2013 (CST)

I think you should add Js06 to the list of one man army translators as well. Sure, he takes longer when translating other LNs, but when a new To Aru Majutsu no Index volume comes out, he can finish the LN in about a week or so with daily updates. You don't need to worry about that, Drey and Anon. I've been corresponding with Vera since day 1 via email. I was the one who invited her to work on this project in the first place. A few months back, I already talked to her about the possibility of a few translators joining, myself included, and she acknowledged it. Here's snap of our conversation:

Drey as ardent follower of your translation of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, your ETAs keep me and i most certainly think others as well from checking Baka-Tsuki every minute or hour, so please do reconsider your decision. Hello, this is Vera! I'm sorry that I'm late to this conversation (I hadn't realized that you had commented on my page a couple months ago.) I really would appreciate the help in translating Alderamin. I'm currently finishing up Volume 2 Chapter 2, which I'll have out hopefully by next week. If you are still interested in translating, can I ask you to start from Volume 2 Chapter 3? I'll start from Chapter 4 to give myself more time, because I'm expecting to be quite busy over the next couple of months. I look forward to working with you! And the next time I don't respond within a week, please contact me a second time because chances are the message somehow didn't reach me the first time.
I can imagine that putting in a ETA puts pressure on yourself, so I think getting rid of it is a good idea. But my opinion matters not, do whatever you want, that and thx for everything you've done so far. --Lenn 11:24, 4 February 2013 (CST)

Hello, Dreyakis!! I just want to know, are you still translating or abandoned it? Well, if you abandoned it, then i will try to get some help from other translator. Anyway, thanks from your translation! *Bow --RozenMaiden
I'd have to say no matter what Drey chooses to do, he'll be somewhat screwed over. If he puts an ETA, fewer people will probably harass him about when he'll be finished, but if he's "late" for this "deadline," little pissants will show up again; however, if he decides to keep the ETA omitted, he'll probably just have all the other little peons messaging him or posting on this user talk about when the next chapter will be finished. As for the pressure, good god, I think the only pressure an ETA should put on him is not the time constraint but the inevitable knowledge that someone's going to bother him, whether it's there or not. --EnigmaticAxiom (talk) 14:03, 4 February 2013 (CST)

Questions and Answers[edit]

1. Are you working on the light novels or the web novels? What's the difference?

I'm working from the Chinese translations of the light novels. The web novels were published before the light novels, but the light novels contain more content in terms of character development and extra scenes. In addition, some lines in the web novels were toned down in the light novels. (And there's more fanservice in the light novels.)

2. Hey, dude, the chapters are out of order! Why did you translate Chapter Y before Chapter X?

Simply put, because someone signed up to do Chapter X before I did. Translators work at different speeds, so some chapters may come out ahead of the others. Everyone works at their own pace, so give them some time.

3. So when's your next chapter coming out?

If I got a dollar every time someone asked me this, I would be able to do this for a living. Click on the User Page tab on the top left corner and you will find my progression on the latest chapter as well as a rough estimate on when the chapter will be complete. And, no, it has been scientifically proven that asking me to work faster/harder does not improve translation speed. I am working off of PST in California, so do take that into account when looking for the new chapter on my update days.

4. Are you going to translate all the volumes?

Until otherwise stated, yes.

5. I got the chapter summaries from somewhere else, may I post them in the forums?

Please don't. Last I heard, the chapter summaries flying everywhere absolutely killed all motivation for the translators. So...... Please don't. Please.

6. I have more questions that you haven't answered here!

Drop me a line in the comments section below. If I can't answer it, go ahead and take it to the Feedback Thread on the forums.
