- I agree. It's trying to express the idea of a well-defined, established 'present day', 'current', or 'now'. Something that, as stated, could 'illuminate her life amidst darkness'. Lygophile (talk) 14:49, 31 May 2014 (CDT)

- Basically, the unclear future is seen as dark. The present, i.e. the time spent with her friends, is "clear" in order to serve as a contrast to the "unclear" future. The reason it "illuminates" her way through the "darkness" of the future is because it takes the imagery of a light shining in your immediate area as you walk through the darkness; you can't see ahead, but you still won't trip or fall because you can see immediately before you.
