− | '''Translator's note:''' The name of this track is Shitou(死闘, lit. 死= death; 闘=battle), which can be translated as desperate struggle, fight to the death, or battle royal. Of course, since they are fighting living dead, the name of the track is, in itself, also a pun. |

In the 1500s there was a tribe in Colombia, whose people would remove the guts of the corpse, fill it with colored cotton, and then they'd put the corpse in a hammock near the fire where they ate. But in the novels, Venera talks about people who made their dead smoke and slept in the same bed with them and talked to them like they were alive. She also mentions that she saw that herself, but I couldn't find any information about such cultures in the late 1800s, when she was supposed to be alive having adventures on Earth. </ref>. |
− | Yelshi: No, she speaks. |
+ | Murata: In any case, Yelshi has been living with his mummified mother. Furthermore, he believes that his mother, Alazon, is still alive. Because she speaks... |
− | Yelshi (thinking): Mother, talk to this rude man... |
+ | Wolfram: SHE SPEAKS...!? |
− | Alazon: K-Key... (Give me) the key.... the key....the-key-the-key-the-key-the-key-the-key-the-key-the-key-the-key-the-key-the-key-the-key-the-key!!! |
+ | Murata: It's only what Yelshi perceives. It's the residual thoughts left by the dead. |
− | Yuuri: *screams* |
+ | In times like this, people with supernatural powers sure have it rough, huh? Like telepaths and psychometers. |
+ | Conrad: Anyway, your Highness, why can't we get close to that place? |
− | Yelshi: What is it? |
+ | Murata: The reason is obvious. Because it's dangerous, Lord Weller. What Yelshi possesses, of all things, is the "Inferno of the Frozen Land". I'm not so crazy that I would let a Bielefeld get anywhere close to it. |
− | Yuuri: Cut it out, Yelshi. This person is already dead. |
+ | Wolfram: What do you mean? |
− | Yelshi (thinking): She's alive. Mother is alive. She's a little weak now, but with the power of the box, she can quickly return to her usual self. |
− | + | Murata: I mean that someone from the Bielefeld family is the key. |
+ | Wolfram: ...! |
− | Yelshi: Key? But I have the key. You. |
+ | Murata: That doesn't mean it is you for sure. One person of that family is the key. That was decided a long time ago. The keys to the four boxes where the soushu was sealed, was entrusted to each of the brave and trustworthy families who fought the soushu. |
− | Yuuri: Eh? ... ! |
+ | Conrad: And they are...? |
− | FX:*Yelshi's eyes turn gold and zombie Josak approaches and grabs Yuuri by the neck. Josak's skin is cold as ice* |
+ | Murata: Three of them were mazoku and one of them was human. The Bielefelds and the Wellers were two of them. Ah... back then they weren't called Wellers, but Berards... |
− | Yuuri: Stop it, Josak! ... |
+ | Conrad: And the other two? Could it be that one of them were the Voltaires? |
− | FX: Josak keeps strangling him* |
+ | Murata: That's right. |
− | Yuuri: I can't breathe... Josa....You're wrong... you're... not this guy's servant... |
+ | Wolfram: That means... |
− | Yelshi(thinking): He has to be the key... Among the mazoku, he's a special existance. He's the Maou and a soukoku. The other soukoku wasn't the key, but this time he must be the right one. |
+ | Conrad: Then, what's the last one? |
− | Yuuri: (angry)You... you did this to Murata too...? |
+ | Murata: The Wincotts. |
− | FX:*Yuuri turns into Ue-sama* |
+ | Conrad: The Wincotts?! |
− | Ue-sama: ... This 'Inferno'... In this world there cannot be a power that I can't have. Fire, wind, and land, they should just disappear! Death will come to those who follow others! This world is only mine, the only thing that can destroy this world, is my power only! *grabs Yelshi* The one who released the power of the 'Inferno of the Frozen Land' , the soushu of fire, was you bastard? |
+ | Wolfram: I heard that the key is stored in a part of the body<ref>In the novels Wolfram and Murata are alone from this moment on and until Conrad comes back and tells Murata not to tire himself too much.</ref>. |
− | Yelshi: Who is this? It's not you... |
+ | Murata: Well, only as a matter of convenience. |
− | Ue-sama: Mark my words. If this world ends, if it welcomes its demise, it won't be by fire. It will be by the silence of the "depth"<ref>Depth, as in "Mirror's Depth" the water box.</ref>, the life of living things, that's sleeping soundly. |
+ | Wolfram: In the case of the Wellers, that would be the left arm. Then, what about my older brother and me? |
− | Yelshi: Who are you? |
+ | Murata: And what are you going to do if I tell you? We're not even sure that you are the key... |
− | Ue-sama: Are you listening? Do not EVER obey others. |
+ | Wolfram: But...! |
− | FX:*blazing fire* |
+ | Murata: If you want to know for sure, you'd have to find out your exact date of birth. Unless you're born at the exact same time as someone in your family died, the chances of inheriting the key are low. However the mazoku do not keep such good track of their birthdays, right? |
− | Yelshi (thinks): The fire....! |
+ | Wolfram: That's right. Wait... in other words what you're talking about is reincarnation? |
− | FX: *Ue-sama turns back into Yuuri. Yuuri is listening to what Ue-sama says and does and is horrified. He says it's like someone's borrowing his body, similar to being a co-pilot in a plane* |
+ | Murata: Rather than reincarnation.... it's more like a soul being implanted. In each of the families, there's one person who has been using the same soul since the first one (who received the key). |
− | Yuuri: Ah... ah.... Eh? Fire? Why? Where did it come from? |
+ | Wolfram: So this matter is related to the soul...? |
− | Zombie Josak: *screams* |
+ | Murata: That's right, just like with maryoku. There was no other way to securely transmit it, don't you think? |
− | FX:*The more the fire burned, the more the army of zombies got confused* |
+ | Conrad: Your Highness... |
+ | Murata: What? |
− | ---------------------------------------- |
+ | Conrad: Don't tire yourself too much, it's not good for your health. You'll worry his Majesty. |
+ | Murata: Well, well... at the very least I don't want to hear that from you, Lord Weller. Who do you think made my Yuu-chan worry so much? |
− | Conrad: Who set that fire....? |
+ | Conrad: If by any chance that would be me, I would be extremely delighted. |
− | Wolfram: There's another fire! It's coming from behind! |
+ | Murata: Uwah... you're making me feel uncomfortable. |
− | Venera: If you look at the way it blazes, it is very strange. That fire is made of houjutsu! |
− | |||
− | Murata: Stop it now! Who is it?! Don't use fire! |
− | |||
− | FX:*weird animal sound* |

− | |||
− | Maxine: *coughs* You blond brat over there, where is my father!? |
− | |||
− | Wolfram: Father, you say... |
− | |||
− | Jason: Here, is Yuuri here? |
− | |||
− | Freddy: Yuuri, have to save! |
− | |||
− | Murata: Wait a moment, twin-chan girls over there! Fire is bad! You can't use fire! Uhm... there is a dangerous weapon over there and if you attack it with fire it will open and there is a possibility that it will... uhm? explode? ... that it will spontaneously discharge... so please (stop)! |
− | |||
− | Jason: Box? |
− | |||
− | Freddy: Box...! But over there, Yuuri's soul! |
− | |||
− | Jason: The soul, we saw! |
− | |||
− | Freddy: We rescue! |
− | |||
− | Jason: We have to rescue! |
− | |||
− | Venera: How brave, girls. |
− | |||
− | Jason/Freddy: Venera! |
− | |||
− | Venera: You did a good job, but from here on, you mustn't be in the way of the soldiers. |
− | |||
− | Conrad: Your Highness, I can't see them anymore! Wolfram cannot go, but I....! |
− | |||
− | Murata: Of course you cannot go! You're the only one here who has a confirmed key! Beside the key to "The End of the Wind" will adapt to any box. Of course you can't get close to it! |
− | |||
− | Conrad: Then, how are we going to clear away Yuuri from the box!? |
− | |||
− | Murata: It's "Majesty"... right, Lord Weller? Even though Grantz is going that way, he might honestly just be in the way. Alright then. If you absolutely must, go and pick up Yuuri to clear him away from the box. |
− | |||
− | Conrad: Understood. |
− | |||
− | Murata: Ah... by the way, Lord Fiancé, where did the other unit go? (Sizemore and the rest) |
− | |||
− | Wolfram: To the northeast. |
− | |||
− | Murata: Then, we should go there too. |
− | |||
− | Wolfram: And leave Yuuri behind over there?! |
− | |||
− | Murata: They're going to get him and bring him back. We're going to work as a decoy and have the zombies follow us north. You, the two girls and the mermaid, come here. Is there something else besides fire that you can use? Something that can be used to attack? Like blowing the enemy with a mass of air.... |
− | |||
− | Jason/Freddy: We'll do! |
− | |||
− | Murata: And also.... yeah that's right.... We need someone to ride in front of us, to work as the decoy. |
− | |||
− | Venera: May I go ? |
− | |||
− | Murata: You, as the representative of the servile class, should rush to the destination before us. And Lord von Bielefeld... any time soon Shibuya will expose the truth. When that happens, that's when you'll be needed. |
− | |||
− | Wolfram: I understand. I'll provoke Yelshi . |
− | |||
− | Murata: I'll leave it in your hands. You know what path to take, right? |
− | |||
− | Wolfram: To the northeast, the northernmost part of the continent. |
− | |||
− | Murata: That's right. The most important thing is TIMING. The outcome will depend on whether we have good or bad luck. |

− | |||
− | Yelshi: Then, who is it? |
− | |||
− | Yuuri: Well .... I'm not going to tell you... |
− | |||
− | Yelshi: It can't be ... |
− | |||
− | Yelshi (thinking): It can't be, it's those two that came before?! I see. That's why the other soukoku didn't want them to come here no matter what... Because they're the key... But which one is the key that opens the box...? |

− | |||
− | FX:*Yelshi's army start chasing after Wolfram* |

− | First, Saralegui who had escaped before everyone else, by some miracle, fulfilled the promise he had made. |
− | |||
− | Saralegui: Brave soldiers! Listen to me! I am Emperor Yelshi, as I was returning from the royal tomb, I was attacked by a frightening army of living dead. Ahh... please save me, please! I'm sure that they have followed me to this place! |
− | |||
− | Soldier: YELSHI DE YUBI NO MATA! We'll defeat those strange dead ones and protect his Majesty! |
− | |||
− | Saralegui: But be careful! The dead can use a strange magic to steal your sanity. Listen... if by any chance, you see me among them, you must not confuse me with the enemy or hit me. Only attack the dead. You must only eliminate the dead. |
− | |||
− | Soldiers: Hooah! |
− | |||
− | Yuuri (monologue): In this way, as soon as Yelshi's army which was lured in by Wolfram arrived to the northernmost part of the continent, they were attacked by excellent soldiers. However... the army of living dead was huge. The excellently trained soldiers were no match for them. That's when Hazel, no, I mean Venera, joined the fight with a large number of her slave comrades. |
− | |||
− | Venera: Even if we have been oppressed for a long time and our voice has not been heard by the ruler, we cannot allow the head of the country to be abused and taken by the dead. What are you going to do about the living dead?! We have to protect Emperor Yelshi! |

− | |||
− | Yuuri: Uh... yes. |
− | |||
− | Saralegui: How dumb are you, Yelshi. Did you think you could use the box that gave you the power to control the dead with an element(Yuuri) like this?<ref>In the novels: Saralegui explains that Yuuri has water majutsu and the box is fire, so obviously he can't open the box.</ref> You were completely wrong.... |
− | |||
− | Yuuri: Sara? |
− | |||
− | Saralegui: *sighs* Good grief! This child is so slow... So much that it's almost unbelievable we have the same blood! Now I know why you didn't inherit Seisakoku, you silly-san! |
− | |||
− | Yuuri: Why are you provoking him like that ...? |
− | |||
− | Saralegui: Shhhh... Be quiet Yuuri. He moves them. Yelshi's entire army of zombies he moves them like pieces of chess. That's why if we can confuse him, the dead should not be able to fight properly. |
− | |||
− | Yuuri: Ah... I see! |
− | |||
− | Saralegui: That's right, Lord Weller! Aren't bad puns one of your strong points? |
− | |||
− | Conrad: What? Me...?! Alright then.... let me tell you a short story that's popular in Big Shimaron<ref>In the novels: it was a joke about presidential elections(which Conrad never told, like the story here). But why did Takabayashi make him say that? Probably because in Japan, during 2007-2008, when the novel was published, the houses that choose the Prime Minister chose different representatives, and they had to make a joint committee to pick the new Prime Minister (also, Japan was changing prime ministers often). </ref> |
− | |||
− | Yuuri: That's something too high-class for you, so it won't work. How about something like: "Fresh smile, NICE GUY"<ref>"Kibunsoukai NICE GUY" Kibunsoukai means refreshing. Yuuri is simply rhyming kibunsoukai, with nice guy. That's because nice guys are refreshing? In any case the pun was so bad even Conrad thought it was bad... which means it was really bad XD</ref>. |
− | |||
− | Conrad: Eh??? |
− | |||
− | Yuuri: What's with that face?! Uwah... I can't believe I made YOU feel cold! I was just trying to match the sounds. |
− | |||
− | Saralegui: *clap hands* Alright, I have one! Let's reveal one small fact! Because you see Yelshi... would "wear" our mother's boob until he was three years old! |
− | |||
− | Yelshi: Sara! Sara you dumb-head! |
− | |||
− | Yuuri: Woah, he's blushing profusely... |
− | |||
− | Adalbert: What does he mean by "wear"<ref>So the word "wear" is not really wear, but something else in Seisakoku language. Even so, I think it's pretty obvious by the context that he meant Yelshi continued to breastfeed until he was three years old.</ref>? |
− | |||
− | Conrad: I don't know... |
− | |||
− | Yelshi: Dumb-head, you're the worst! |
− | |||

Murata: 'That person' is dead, it's a corpse. Or rather, it's not at the LEVEL of a corpse anymore. She has been mummified. Seisakoku's emperor has been living with his mother's corpse all this time.
Wolfram: But... would the god of the Shinzoku allow something so audacious?
Murata: I don't know much about the Shinzoku's religion either.
Conrad: I don't think their faith is completely unrelated, but these circumstances are different, right?
Venera: Though in Central and South America there were such cultures. Cultures that contemplate living with the dead I mean[1].
Murata: In any case, Yelshi has been living with his mummified mother. Furthermore, he believes that his mother, Alazon, is still alive. Because she speaks...
Wolfram: SHE SPEAKS...!?
Murata: It's only what Yelshi perceives. It's the residual thoughts left by the dead. In times like this, people with supernatural powers sure have it rough, huh? Like telepaths and psychometers.
Conrad: Anyway, your Highness, why can't we get close to that place?
Murata: The reason is obvious. Because it's dangerous, Lord Weller. What Yelshi possesses, of all things, is the "Inferno of the Frozen Land". I'm not so crazy that I would let a Bielefeld get anywhere close to it.
Wolfram: What do you mean?
Murata: I mean that someone from the Bielefeld family is the key.
Wolfram: ...!
Murata: That doesn't mean it is you for sure. One person of that family is the key. That was decided a long time ago. The keys to the four boxes where the soushu was sealed, was entrusted to each of the brave and trustworthy families who fought the soushu.
Conrad: And they are...?
Murata: Three of them were mazoku and one of them was human. The Bielefelds and the Wellers were two of them. Ah... back then they weren't called Wellers, but Berards...
Conrad: And the other two? Could it be that one of them were the Voltaires?
Murata: That's right.
Wolfram: That means...
Conrad: Then, what's the last one?
Murata: The Wincotts.
Conrad: The Wincotts?!
Wolfram: I heard that the key is stored in a part of the body[2].
Murata: Well, only as a matter of convenience.
Wolfram: In the case of the Wellers, that would be the left arm. Then, what about my older brother and me?
Murata: And what are you going to do if I tell you? We're not even sure that you are the key...
Wolfram: But...!
Murata: If you want to know for sure, you'd have to find out your exact date of birth. Unless you're born at the exact same time as someone in your family died, the chances of inheriting the key are low. However the mazoku do not keep such good track of their birthdays, right?
Wolfram: That's right. Wait... in other words what you're talking about is reincarnation?
Murata: Rather than reincarnation.... it's more like a soul being implanted. In each of the families, there's one person who has been using the same soul since the first one (who received the key).
Wolfram: So this matter is related to the soul...?
Murata: That's right, just like with maryoku. There was no other way to securely transmit it, don't you think?
Conrad: Your Highness...
Murata: What?
Conrad: Don't tire yourself too much, it's not good for your health. You'll worry his Majesty.
Murata: Well, well... at the very least I don't want to hear that from you, Lord Weller. Who do you think made my Yuu-chan worry so much?
Conrad: If by any chance that would be me, I would be extremely delighted.
Murata: Uwah... you're making me feel uncomfortable.
Venera: *chuckles* You two sound like TEEN girls, you know?

References[edit]
- ↑ She might be talking about pre-Columbian cultures.
- ↑ In the novels Wolfram and Murata are alone from this moment on and until Conrad comes back and tells Murata not to tire himself too much.
