Summary

Clannad is an all-ages visual novel adventure developed by Key/VisualArts, released in 2004. More information is available at the Wikipedia entry located here.

This is a resurrection of the translation project effort that started in 2005. Originally run by Soulfang, this new resurrection is an open collaboration started by velocity7. As this is an experimental project, people should take heed to how this is being handled. Please see below for more details.

Please note, that Baka-Tsuki hosts only the Translated text, and as such, no images or game files are hosted here.

Special thanks goes to Haeleth for the development of the RealLive tool (RLdev), which has made patch processing possible.

We are currently looking for the following type of people to help with development. You should have some experience with the RLdev environment, or very willing to learn how to use it:

• graphics editors who can edit the G00 files for Clannad to fit the English text as necessary as well as handle animated scenes (e.g., GUI, animated text, etc.)

Development Status

So far, with the help of Haeleth and a few other members, the following currently works at this time:

• Variable-width fonts
• Automatic line breaking
• Custom fonts

Remaining bugs to be squashed are as follows:

• Overlapping character names (for exmaple, if Tomoya says something, "Tom" and "oya" overlap)
• Garbled options
• Crashing on Japanese text (probably impossible to fix due to nature of system)

Guidelines

Generally speaking, the guidelines associated with the Suzumiya Haruhi novel translation project can be followed, but there are several amendments that have been made in order to accomodate the unorthodox nature of this project. Please see the Clannad Guidelines for details.

If you wish to make a translation contribution and cannot abide by the Guidelines for any reason, instead of posting the text on the wiki, please link the translation on the required wiki page. A Project Editor will handle the transfer into an acceptable format.

Editors

This is the Project Editorial Team. They will regularly patrol the project to prevent vandalism & make sure the guidelines are implemented. If you have any inquiries about the current edited version of a script, such as translation nuances or improvements to the editing, please make changes as you see fit.

Script Registration Chart

This is the following legend for the chart below:

• if no page exists for the SEEN file, it means the scene is currently not assigned to anyone
• if the link exists, it means one or more Translators have assigned the scene to themselves, and is translating it
• if the link is italicized, it means the scene has finished translation, and is awaiting editing or is being edited
• if the link is bolded, it means the scene is translated and has finished editing (will be authorized by the Project Leader)

If you wish to make any comments on the quality of the editing or translation of a protected SEEN page, please visit the link in question and make your comments on its respective Talk/Discussion page.

To assign yourself a SEEN page, simply click on any of the links and either create a new page (using the format used in existing SEEN pages) or add yourself to the translator list in an existing page.

A key thing to note is that more than one translator can work on a single script.

There are two sets of files that do need to be translated; the Kepago source code files (< 1% of translation) and the actual story content files (99% of translation). You may download these here:

These files can be opened by Notepad or some similar word processing program that will accept UTF-8 as input. They are not in S-JIS for compatibility/universal reasons across all platforms.
