I found out where this was published in Japan. Dengeki Bunko Magazine Vol 17 (電撃文庫 MAGAZINE Vol.17) "小さな逃亡者". It was released at the same time as Volume 7. Yeah, I got the same impression. From what I can tell it was published in Dengeki Magazine to promote the series - but I didn't know about it, so it's a nice treat. --Dohma
