49			去年の学園祭の裏コンテスト『ミス峰城大“付属”』にて、 準優勝を獲得した逸材にして、今年も堂々の優勝候補。	She was a runner-up last year in the "Miss Houjou High" contest during the school festival, and is one of the favorites this year.
50	武也	Takeya	「んなこと言ったって… 彼女の方からどうしてもやりたいって…」	"I know that but... She said that she really wanted to try no matter what..."
51			噂では芸能界入りを狙ってるらしく、 そのため今年のコンテストに賭ける意気込みは 並々ならぬものがあったようで。	She apparently had plans to enter showbiz, and that seemed to be one of the reasons why she entered this year's contest with some extraordinary enthusiasm.

57			その煽りを食らったのが我らが軽音楽同好会。	Consequently, our light music club was subject to her influence.
58			毎年、学園祭の三ヶ月前に集まる有志によって、 脈々と受け継がれるこの適当な呼称を持つ当会は、 今年は我がそこそこの友、飯塚武也によって旗揚げされた。	Every year, someone was nominated to be club president in order to gather volunteers three months before the school festival. This year, it happened to be none other than Iizuka Takeya here.
59	春希	Haruki	「お前にしては珍しく、してやられたな武也。 その結果がこれだ」	"Rare as it might be, you've been had, Takeya. And this is the result."
60			そこに唐突に加わった紅一点は、 メンバーの中に様々な軋轢をもたらした。	And this one girl, who was abruptly brought in, wrought discord amongst all the club members.

64			彼女の加入を快く思わないメンバーを、 なりふり構わない手段で懐柔して、 全員を自由自在に操ろうと画策していた。	She did everything in her power to persuade and manipulate members who were not satisfied with her.
65	武也	Takeya	「俺は見るからにそういう人間だからいいんだよ」	"Obviously, what I did was for the others' sake."
66			何故そこまで彼女の手口に詳しいかと言うと、 まぁ、俺も彼女のターゲットの一人だったからだけど。	How do I know just how far she had gone? Well, I was also one of her targets.

94			…と、言うわけで、 週に二回しか使わせてもらえない第一音楽室に、 たった一人残されてしまう。	... And just like that, I find myself alone in the first music room, which can only be used twice a week.
95			あと一月半… ここで練習できるのも残り１０回を切ったところで、 事態は綺麗に無垢にまっさらに白紙に戻ってきた。	Only a month and a half left... Since we can only practice here another ten times, the situation really has devolved into a pure, blank slate.
96	春希	Haruki	「どうするかなぁ…」	"What should we do...?"
97			無責任かつ火種な軽薄部長の手前、 こっちも無関心を装わせてもらったが…	Truth be told, I was only pretending to be indifferent in front of that irresponsible, carefree club president...
98			そうは言ってもこの事態、 ある程度の想定はしてたけど、 期待をしてたかというと、むしろその逆だったりして。	With that said, in one way or another, I expected something like this would happen. Even though I was hoping it wouldn't.

100			例えボーカルが、 男同士の友情を、天秤の重りくらいにしか考えてない、 計算高い科学者だったとしても…	If I were a calculating scientist, I'd see the vocalist on one of side of the scale, balanced against my friend...
101			それでも、その人気と外見と媚び慣れた態度があれば、 俺の目的は、結構な確率で達成されたんだろうけどな。	Even so, if I had his popularity, good looks and silver tongue, I could probably achieve my goals rather easily.

103			峰城祭を来月に控えた、秋も深まる１０月の夕暮れに…	On an evening during the late autumn, in October, with only a month remaining before the school festival...
104			俺、峰城大付３年Ｅ組北原春希は、 誰も聞いていないのをいいことに、盛大なため息をついた。	I, Kitahara Haruki, a student of Houjou High School's class 3-E, could only let out a deep sigh, out of anyone else's sight.

109			学園祭で『ミス峰城大付属実行委員』を担う身としては、 その逆境すら情報戦の一つとして利用する したたかさが必要だったりする。	I suppose this sort of information would be useful to someone bearing the burden of the "Miss Houjou High Executive Committee" for the school festival.
110	親志	Chikashi	「つい先週まで、 小木曽の三連覇に黄信号って言ってたのに、 どういう風の吹き回しだ？」	"You were the one raising the warning that Ogiso's three win streak might be broken, though. What's with this turn of events?"
111	春希	Haruki	「選挙ってのは生き物なんだよ。 昨日までの予想が今日はまるっきり役に立たなくなる。 俺たちは毎年そんな生きた情報と戦わねばならない…」	"Polls are living things. Predictions I made yesterday may be absolutely useless today. We have to deal with the fact that information changes on a daily basis."
112	親志	Chikashi	「てことは今年も波乱はなし…か？」	"So there's no worthy challenger this year either, then...?"
113	春希	Haruki	「お前、俺の話聞いてたか？ 今日の予想は明日には…」	"Come on, weren't you listening? The predictions I make today may be useless tomorrow..."
114	親志	Chikashi	「ま、でも… 個人的には小木曽独走でまったく異存ないけどな」	"Well, you know, personally, I have no objections to Ogiso having such a large lead."
115	春希	Haruki	「…それには同意せざるを得ないな」	"... I can't help but agree."
116			峰城大付属の学園祭は、 キャンパスが隣接する峰城大の大学祭と 同日開催で行われる。	Houjou High School's festival takes place on the same day as Houjou University's festival, right next to our campus.
117			近隣どころか県外からも多くの人が押し寄せる 峰城大祭に比べ、そりゃ悲しいほどの規模の差を誇る まさに“付属した祭”なのは仕方のないところ。	Compared with the university's festival, our school festival is far smaller-scale. It's kind of a given, being that we're merely a high school affiliated with the very same university.
118			それでも大量に押しかける峰城大祭側の客を 騙したりすかしたり休憩所と偽ったりで誘致して、 毎年、そこそこの賑わいを見せている。	Regardless, we acquire spillover visitors from the university through whatever means necessary, from luring them in, to having them think we are a rest stop. This makes the turnout every year fairly decent.
119			中でも向こうの看板イベントにあざといまでに便乗し、 ある意味本家以上に“内輪で”盛り上がるのが、 この『ミス峰城大付属』。	Among other things, there are some cunningly placed signboards within the university and, in a sense, the "Miss Houjou High" contest is quite popular.
120			本家の『ミス峰城大』は、 峰城大祭最終日のステージを独占して行われ、 マスコミまで注目する一大イベントと化している。	The original "Miss Houjou University" event steals the stage on the last day of the university's festival each year, and has transformed into an event that even invites the press.
121			けれど、大学ほど自治権を認められていないしがない付属。 色々と世間の批判とかも考慮した職員側の判断もあり、 ミスコンの正式開催が理事会で通ることはなかった。	But, being merely affiliated to the university, we weren't allowed to have the kind of autonomy that it had. We had to consider public criticism, the decisions made by staff, and the fact that the school directors never formally approved the holding of our beauty pageant.
122			となると逆に、ちょっと背伸びしたくなるお年頃の付属生。 体制に従うふりをして、地下に潜った。	Except, the High School's students had reached that rebellious age. Pretending to concede, they shifted their efforts underground.
123			しかし、地下で燻っているような先輩諸兄では… 彼らは、付属祭実行委員会を二段構えで組織して、 めでたく『ミス峰城大付属』は裏開催される運びとなった。	And so, those seniors that smoldered underground... They, the organizers of the school festival executive committee, opened up "Miss Houjou High" behind the scenes.
124			それが１０年くらい前の話。	That happened ten years ago.
125			そんな反社会的な伝統に限って、 絶えることなく脈々と受け継がれるのはこの世の常で。	Since it's an anti-social tradition, it's no wonder it's been passed on for generations now, that's just plain common sense in this world.
126			ステージイベントもない、水着審査もない。	But early on, they even lacked stage events and swimsuit contests.
127			ただ、当日配布される写真入りパンフレットをもとに、 普通に学園祭を楽しんでいる参加者を探し、 気に入った女の子に投票するだけの裏コンテスト。	On that particular day, they handed out pamphlets with illustrations as they searched for participants amongst the normally easy-going students. It was a secret contest that voted on popular girls.
128			そんな華々しくない、学生側の自主規制と 学園側の黙認によって成り立っているイベントは、 すでに付属祭の裏目玉として定着した趣がある。	Given that it was hardly anything spectacular, the students' regulations and the campus' tacit consent had clued in that it was a failure in the making.
129			なお、俺がここに入学して以来、 そのトップの座は一度も揺らいだことがない。	On top of that, the champion that was crowned when I enrolled has still not been dethroned.
130			…ま、それはともかく。	... Well, putting all of that aside.
131	春希	Haruki	「おはよう。 毎日毎日律儀に５分の遅刻だな」	"Morning. Day after day, you're five minutes late."

133	春希	Haruki	「たった５分早く来るだけで、 あの不快で嫌味で私情溢れる説教を聞かずに済むけど、 考慮してみる気ないのか？」	"Have you ever considered that if only you arrived five minutes earlier, you wouldn't have to hear those unpleasant, nasty, and personal lectures of his?"
