Maru-MA (o la serie de MA, ㋮シリーズ) es como se le conoce en Japón a esta serie de novelas ligeras escritas por Tomo Takabayashi e ilustrada por Temari Matsumoto. Esto se debe a que lo único que se repite en todos los títulos es el símbolo MA dentro de un círculo. Varios términos u objetos en la historia también comienzan con la palabra Ma. El Ma se puede entender como “maligno, demoníaco”; pero a pesar de esto tuvimos que tomar una decisión para mantener el juego de palabras, y nos es imposible utilizar “demoníaco” por lo cual vamos a utilizar la palabra “magia o mágico”. A partir de ahora todos los títulos incluirán esa palabra para mantener el juego, pero sean conscientes de que estará un poco alejado de la verdadera traducción literal. La novela fue publicada en el año 2000 y cuenta con 17 volumenes mas especiales y extras.

La serie es popularmente conocida por los fans bajo el nombre que se utilizó para la serie animada, Kyou Kara Maou! (A partir de hoy soy el Rey de los Demonios). El anime fue emitido por primera vez en Abril del 2004 y cuenta consta de tres temporadas con un total de 117 episodios, ademas de dos OVAs llamados Kyou Kara Maou R.

Historia

Yuuri Shibuya es un estudiante de primer año de secundaria alta promedio de 15 años y fanático del béisbol. Un día normal volviendo a su casa en bicicleta se encuentra con Murata Ken, un viejo compañero de instituto, que está en problemas siendo atacado por unos Yankees en el parque de su barrio. En un acto heroico intentando salvarlo termina con la cabeza metida dentro de un inodoro occidental en los baños públicos del parque, y en ese momento comienza su aventura cuando es succionado por el inodoro hacia un mundo completamente desconocido de espadas y magia. En este lugar se ve rodeado de hombres extrañamente hermosos que le informan que ha sido invocado bajo las ordenes de Shinou (el rey original) para asumir el trono de Shin Makoku como el 23avo Maou (rey demonio) que destruirá a todos los humanos que se oponen a los mazokus (la raza demoníaca). Envuelto en esta guerra entre humanos y mazokus, sus aventuras lo llevarán a tomar la decisión de convertirse en el nuevo Rey y tratar de resolver los problemas entre ambas razas con la ayuda de sus nuevos amigos. Las cosas se complican con el descubrimiento de cuatro poderosas armas de destrucción, las cuatro cajas.
