Prologue

The passages were excavated into the solid bedrock and were even piled up in several layers.

A boy had been walking alone through the inside of the institution where crimson flames swirled in.

He had glossy black hair. He was in an attire that covered his whole body in black and could be mistaken for darkness.

His girl-like looks still had innocence remaining but his jet-black pupils completely did not have emotions, they had been just reflecting flames that flickered inhumanly.

Who destroyed the institution of the «Instructional School» that had many combatants in merely half a day— The boy had no way of knowing.

Was it the capital's Spirit Knights, or an accident of a rampaging sealed spirit?

The instructional teachers, who drilled combat skills into the boy, were nowhere to be found.

Did they escaped, or it might be that they had already died.

If that was the case, the boy would be released and would become a freeman.

But.

Such things are trivial...

The boy, who had his heart stolen away, had become apathetic to everything.

Except for her, the one and only exception.

The darkness spirit, Restia—the highest level sealed spirit that was given to him by the teachers of the institution.

The girl had granted light to his heart that was shut in darkness.

She's the only one that I'll absolutely protect.

Within the blazing flames, the boy's goal was the shrine that was beneath the institution.

In the shrine, there were many artefacts of sealed spirits that were illegally excavated by the «Instructional School»— that was even comparable to a small nation's military strength— resting.

The ring that sealed Restia should also be stored over there.

The spirit seal that was the proof of a spirit contract had not yet been engraved on the boy's hand.

The teachers of the institution were cautious of him possessing more power than necessary and had not permit the exchanging of a spirit contract.

The boy held the power to exchange feelings with a spirit while having the body of a male— the same nature as the «Demon King».

The teachers were afraid that he would rebel after contracting with the highest level darkness spirit.

"—Onii-sama!"

The sound of a girl came from behind.

"Muir?"

There was only one person who would call him onii-sama.

The boy turned around, and saw a young girl behind him.

Coal-black hair, piercing green eyes and rose-like lips. The flesh which wasn't concealed by her dark battle gear appeared to be snow white.

"Muir, you still haven't escaped?"

"Because I had to find onii-sama!"

Muir Alenstarl replied with a red face.

No matter how one looks at it, the youth was an orphan without a sister.

"Onii-sama" was the name she called him with.

"What happened to the others that were watching?"

"Eliminated."

She answered with a flicker of her eyebrow.

"It's because they would cause problems while I'm searching for onii-sama."

A proud murderer without remorse.

"So it became like this..."

If it was necessary for the job to kill somebody - things like that were not unheard of.

No, there was little guilt for the murdered comrades.

A girl, who was taught to become a weapon- in a way, he was the same.

Muir Alenstarl was the «Instructional School»'s second most powerful warrior. In this place full of monsters, she was called a «monster».

With overwhelming fighting power, for somebody who hasn't killed anyone yet, there was a red gulf between them.

"Onii-sama, what are you doing here?"

Muir asked.

"There is an altar under here where Restia's seal lies. I need to get it."

"But Onii-sama already has Muir, you don't need that contracted spirit."

Muir frowned with her cute lips.

"In that case, where is Lily?"

Lily Flame was the seventh member of Muir's group.

"Lily...um...hmm, she might be dead already because of the Crimson Lotus Giant."

"Crimson Lotus Giant?"

"That incredible Lava spirit that attacked the facility several weeks ago."

At that instant.

The ground suddenly began to shake.

"It's coming onii-sama!"

".....!?"

—Suddenly, from the depths of the tunnel came an incredible killing intent. Crimson flames clinging to the ground appeared in an instant. From the depths of the fire came a roaring Giant, holding a flaming sword in his molten hands.

"Fire spirit?, no, it is..."

It was not a simple Fire Spirit.

The youth's entire body was frozen with shock.

It was a symbol of destruction. Its very sight shook the mind.

That's.... a demon-king-level-spirit!

Even the «Instructional School», full of powerful spirits, would be destroyed by this.

The power of a Demon King level spirit could defeat an entire regiment of Spirit Knights.

There is no way anyone would be able to fight a spirit of this level.

The fire spirit noticed them.

With flames coiling all around its body, the monster slowly approached.

Muir licked the ring on her finger.

It looked like she was planning to use her military level spirit against it.

"Muir, that spirit is not something a human can defeat."

"No problem. Muir isn't a human, Muir is a monster."

Muir's right hand glowed with her Mark of Contract.

No, it was not a Spirit Seal, but a Cursed Armament Seal.

The reason why Muir was called a monster — «Jester Vice»

"Goodbye, Onii-sama."

"—MUIR!!!"

At that moment, the young boy stretched his hands out towards her.

The giant released crimson lotus flames, and his world was engulfed in fire.

The frenzied spirit's flames resulted in the complete destruction of the «Instructional school»

This took place a year before the appearance of the strongest Blade dancer.

In a place not recorded on any maps, on the border of the Empire.
